Gran Turismo in an 8-Bit World

While many complain about the shortcomings of modern games, it’s way too easy to forget just how good we have it. For some perspective – and a good laugh – check out this video trailer for an 8-bit version of Gran Turismo 5, created by 797Productions and uncovered by GTOne2Three.

For anyone curious, most of the video above was actually put together using clips from an old NES game, Formula One: Built to Win, which helped lay the groundwork for the Gran Turismo game-play formula we’ve all come to know and love. The original game can now be played in your web browser, right here. Happy April fool’s day, everyone!

oh and again, PD should try to take the Need for speed shift driving experience approach. That kind of realisim paired with insane driving physics will be pretty fdamn insane

Aaah yeah! Brings back good old memories. When I think about it, gameplay was much better back then…OMG what did I just say!? Really getting old haha… Great video – I will always love the 8-bit world…

    Why this game sucks:
    The graphics absolutely suck
How many premiums are there? 0.
Physics, don’t even get me started, really not up to GT scale
    Why are there no Skylines/Miatas!!!
    There aren’t enough events
It is too impossible to get ANY cars even though the AI drives like complete zombies
    The shadows are too blocky
The dust and smoke absolutely sucks!!!

    DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

    Happy April Fool’s Everyone. :)

I loved Rad Racer for Super NES and that is the games the creator used for most of the visuals. Good memories, thanks!

I`m loving the fact that in the forums you will get banned for pretty much any talk on piracy and on the front page there`s a link to an NES rom :).

Kind of a slip up, or you should really change the forum policy. I`d be in favour of the latter.

not just being a knob either — I don`t know what companies are eyeing GTPlanet on a regular basis but I always just assumed something like that was the reason for the forum ban.

PD should have made an update today…then what you started the game this video played just to scare gamers lol

There was a clip of rad racer there, I loved that game.
Thanks for that, it was funny, made me smile…

    Haha! Brilliant.
I kind of feel priviledged to have grown up with the rise of computer gaming and see its development path.
My first driving sim was “CrazyCars I and II” on the Sinclair Spectrum ZX+, then “Car & Driver” on the 386DX, then GT1, 2, etc.
Now i’m at the ripe old age of 32 and still loving driving sims.
I never wanted to sound like my father but “these young’uns dont know how good they have got it!”

Hahahaha, that was brilliant. Brings back memorys of my C64 gaming days. Thanks Jordan, that really made me laugh :D

Outrun was my favorite game to play in the arcades when I was younger. Then later on it was Sega Super GT. But I remember those 8bit days- amazing how good SuperMario3 looked though!

Hey, at least the game has all around polish. Every bit of content is on the same level of quality. :)

The shot of Pole Position was definitely a standard car. Apparently there’s only going to be one premium, and guess what, it’s a Skyline.

Err…it’s not supposed to be a “joke”, Leo, just something to make you smile on April fool’s day…

    2. Leo

OK. I have to admit it was pretty neat. Considering I got so much HW, I put tiredness my on GTP. Sorry. :)
