Lucas Ordoñez’s 2012 Le Mans Team Reunited for FIA WEC at Silverstone

GT Academy Motorsport July 3rd, 2012 by Famine

As announced by Nissan earlier this week GT Academy’s first winner, Lucas Ordoñez, will be reunited with his Le Mans teammates Martin and Alex Brundle. The trio will be driving the Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan for the next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone on 26th August.

In the world famous 24hr race last month, the team managed an 8th place class finish, one place ahead of 2010′s GT Academy winner Jordan Tresson’s team in the Signatech Nissan! The Silverstone race will only be a quarter the length, at 6 hours, but on the much shorter Silverstone Arena Grand Prix circuit. Lucas was, understandably, pleased to be racing with his 24hr colleagues once again:

By watching [Martin] I have learned a lot about how to handle myself in this sport. I can’t wait for Silverstone as we will be able to race without pressure and I think we should be able to get a good result there. I hope that after the race I will have a photograph of me on the podium with Martin and Alex.

Meanwhile in France this weekend, Jann Mardenborough’s Blancpain Endurance Series race at Paul Ricard finished dismally in the first hour. From a 29th place start an early tangle saw the team have to pit to repair damage and come out at the back of the pack. Following good progress thereafter, Alex Buncombe climbed several places before unfortunately clipping the Lamborghini Gallardo of Blancpain CEO Marc Hayek. The resulting front end damage retired the car.

The kids did great at Watkins Glen this weekend. They probably would’ve won but got tangled up by a crashed car. This is a really good program for everyone involved.

PS3. It only does everything, including creating endurance racers. GT Academy FTW.
