GT5-Compatible “Move Racing Wheel” Announced at E3 2012

Accessories Gran Turismo 5 June 5th, 2012 by Jordan

As expected, no new Gran Turismo games were announced at E3 2012, which is being held this week in Los Angeles.

However, Sony did announce a new accessory that will be compatible with Gran Turismo 5: the “PlayStation Move Racing Wheel”. While it’s obviously no a replacement for a Logitech, Fanatec, or Thrustmaster product, the Move Racing Wheel does offer features you might not expect, including “vibration feedback” and paddle shifters.

The wheel will also support other games, and its folding grips can be adjusted to replicate motorcycle handlebars. It will be available at retailers “this fall” for $39.99 USD.

if it works as well as the Microsoft Speed Wheel it’ll be ok, really, for pick up and have a blatt around use it’s a treat.hell, even the missus went from 12th to 2nd (with some assists on) in only a few races driving a Tuned Lotus Cortina, she’s really bad at pad driving!. when she’s not about i get the Proper wheel out though.

not saying you’re a girl if you get one though :)

GUYS, realistically if u use ur logic GT5 is going to add all the tons of new features for GT6, its going to cause PROBLEMS FOR ALL OF US! so what we need form GT6 is an Improvement of GT5, i mean:

    -1000 PREMIUM CARS!
-ALL OLD TRACKS BACK FROM OLD GT’s!
-BETTER CAR CUSTOMISATION (or all cars RACE-MODABLE) TYRE RIMS FROM GT4!
    -IMPROVE MENU’S!
    -ALL TRACKS DAY/NIGHT-WEATHER!
-& OTHER STUFF NOT THOUGHT THROUGH DUE TO LACK OF TIME!

GRAN TURISMO IS GRAN TURISMO, THEY HAVE THEIR OWN WAYS OF PROVIDING US WITH STUFF, LIKE OLDER GT’s IT MUST FOLLOW THE SAME CARISMA,

GRAN TURISMO DOESN’T NEED TO DO WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING CUS ITS GRAN TURISMO SO GT DOESN’T NEED ENGINE SWAPS JUST CUS FORZA HAS IT EVEN IF PEOPLE THERE LIKE IT (its forza not granturismo) OR THESE RIVAL TIME MODES (IT HAS SEASONAL EVENTS)….

GT5 IS NOT TO BE COMPARED AS BEHIND OR AHEAD OF OTHER RACING GAMES, GRANTURISMO IS BEING WHAT IT IS!
A REAL SIM DOESN’T NEED ENGINE SWAPS ETC. WHAT PRO- RACERS SHOULD ACUTALLY BE AFTER IS PHYSICS, GRAPHICS, TRACKS & CARS, THATS WHAT MAKES IT A SIM NOT PUTTING HELLO KITTY ON UR CAR OR MAKING A HONDA JAZZ FASTER THAN A ENZO, THATS UNREAL!

i mean in forza bugetti vayron & nissan gtr as standard wheel spin off the line & FF cars drift
In shift u drive with ur steering wheel all over the place like its loose, if u drove like that in real, U WILL CRASH! cus u have to be smooth with the steering, SHIFT IS A OFF ROAD RALLY GAME ON TARMAC…GT5 is a real sim, why don’t people appreciate that PD r concentrating on events (REAL RACES) & PHYSICS & accurate tracks????????????

      “-1000 PREMIUM CARS!”

Yeah, that ain’t going to happen. And by judging how long it takes PD to model one premium car, the maximum we’ll most likely see in GT6 is about 530. By the time we see 1000 Premiums those premiums will look like standards.

      sibbystiggy

Ok Ok, i admit the 1000premium cars was too much to say but the point im trying to make is that gt6, should not be a completely new game/ big step forward with features cus they will just cause more problems with time & not being completed etc. gt6 should be an improvement of the features in gt5, stuff that isn’t up to the standard of the older GTs:

-ALL OLD TRACKS BACK FROM OLD GT’s!
-BETTER CAR CUSTOMISATION (or all cars RACE-MODABLE) TYRE RIMS FROM GT4!
      -IMPROVE MENU’S!
      -ALL TRACKS DAY/NIGHT-WEATHER!
-& OTHER STUFF NOT THOUGHT THROUGH DUE TO LACK OF TIME!

this is what we need from the next Gran Turismo
gran turismo is not to copy features from other games like forza, Gran Turismo should stay origional as to how it is & has been… none of the this engine swaps crap that people r after i mean

These “air steering-wheel” accessories were never a good idea. They just don’t work that well due to poor responsiveness and arm fatigue. It didn’t work for Mario Kart, it won’t work for Sony either.

fine, if you insist on turning this into a shouting contest

I NEVER SAID IT WAS MADE FOR GT!! READ WHAT I WROTE!! I am fully aware that PD didn’t have anything to do with the development of this wheel, but for the wheel to work, that game has to be Playstation Move compatible! HOW DO YOU NOT GET THAT?!
And I cannot for the life of me, see why they would spend time making a racing game compatible with something as ridiculous as that (for the several reasons that other people have already commented on this thread)

And as for the whole DLC/GT Academy thing. Yes I happen to be in a country that doesn’t support GT Academy, and no I couldn’t care less. I have no dreams of becomming a race car driver, that ship has sailed many a years (and kg’s) ago. But let’s take a look at the extra content then, disregarding the Academy stuff, since that’s not really DLC, In my oppinion anyway

Paint chips!! (because the several thousand colors allready in the games wasn’t enought!?)
    Driving Suits/Helmets (Really ?!)
The 10 TC cars (10-ish (can’t remember the exact number) cars allready in the game, allthough changed a bit, and decorated with some stickers and what not)
3 more go-carts and another Red Bull Car (I don’t really no what to say about the, it’s not my cup of tea, but some people find them fun)
SPA-Francochamps (Can’t complaine about that, EPIC track)
    Car Pack 2
    – Mini Cooper S 12 (Another Mini…)
    – Nissan R35 Black Edition (Another R35…)
    – Golf VI R (Cool but not really that much different from a car allready in the game…)
    – Scirocco R (Pretty much a Golf VI R with a different body…)

    Car pack 3
    – Aston V12 Vantage (wasn’t that allready in the game, just standard)
    – Jag XJR-9 LM (allready a standard car)
    – Lamborghine Aventador (very cool car, but not that much different from the Murciélago, and I would be surprised if the physics was pretty much the same)
    – Mini Clubman Country thing (Not really a clear car chioce for a racing game, but fair enough it’s a new car – somewhat)
    – Nissan Leaf (…. why even bother, but that’s probably some promotional-agreement-thing between Nissan and PD…)
    – Old Beetle (already a standard game, allthough with less tuning options etc.)

And then there is the speed pack. A DLC that should have been in the game from the start! (You can’t deny that!)

    I may have forgotten something.
The reason I’m disappointed in the DLC is, I guess, I expected so much more from PD… I could go on and on about this, but I don’t see the point, since we obviously disagree on this.

And the reason you give for the development time/half finished game… BULL S***!! You have an executive producer (or what ever Kaz is) that constantly exclaimes that he is a perfectionist, and that he wants to make the best possible racing game, and then after five years they release something like that… It’s just not good enought! Especially with the amount of recycling in mind (Standard cars, and low res renderes tracks)…

And just to clarify, I’m not some hardcore Forza fan out to bust balls. I’ve played GT since the release of GT1, and this is the first time I’m actually disappointed in GT (some parts of the game, certainly not every thing), like I said, I expected more from Kaz and PD

    Just my oppinion anyway…

Well, the fact is, you said that “it still had to be compatible with Gran Turismo, correct?”, implying that you were saying that PD still had to work with Sony in order for it to be compatible with their game. PD wouldn’t have to do that, Sony already has all the information on the game to allow it’s compatibility. And the only portion of PS Move being needed would be the hardware (plus an update to recognize PS Move hardware/software, the coding for most of which Sony would likely provide). It really isn’t difficult to make this hardware compatible for GT; in fact, PD could’ve just had Sony do it for them to save their work for the GT series. Likely the main reason is that the GT series is one of the biggest PS-exclusive franchises – so advertising is another thing. And how about the casual gamers? They probably wouldn’t be looking very hard for a hardcore racing wheel if they wanted something other than a controller for a racing game; so this wheel is a pretty obvious choice for them. This isn’t aimed toward the hardcore RACING gamers.

My point with GT Academy WASN’T that you could become a real racing driver (that’s not the values for me; I won’t be eligible for another three years), it was the competing with friends and the leader board aspect. I’ve got a feeling that you aren’t into time trials.. so I can see why you wouldn’t be interested in this. But, if you are, there’s ways of getting it; creating a US/EU/other eligible region’s account, downloading GT Academy, and using your original account to play it. And my point with it being a semi-form of DLC wasn’t based on your or my opinion, it’s content, and it’s downloadable. So yes, it isn’t GT5 DLC. The “new content” is the leaderboards (which you may not be into) and now we know Twin Ring Motegi. This’ll likely be used in future GT5 DLC. Even if GT Academy doesn’t count as DLC, it’s DEFINITELY a good excuse for the lack of it.

As for the paints, there weren’t really any “custom” looking colors (like shift, matte, and other strange types of paints), and there still isn’t really a good way for people (mostly tuners) to purchase specific paints (like the chromes). Though, I’d rather have a paint shop so you wouldn’t have to blow some money just to get ONE MORE of each DLC paint. I didn’t really see a use for the suits, either. I don’t really see any groups that collect/trade suits for anything, or even try to match their suits to their cars. I found the gear DLC almost pointless, except for a few helmets/suits that actually exist in the real world (like the NASCAR suits). I SORT OF agree with the DLC 1 having “duplicate” cars, but it makes sense to make racing versions, and they feel WAY different than the normal stock cars, so it isn’t just a simple “add kits, increase speed, increase grip” for them. The Karts, I’d say, were a decent addition, for that aspect is only supported with two track generator locations, 1 car (now 4), and a special event. The X2011 kinda made sense, they wanted to improve the ultimate racing machine. As for DLC 2, “another Mini?” – We don’t have many Minis… Another GT-R was a bit annoying, but it made sense saying as it had a pretty decent power increase. The Scirocco R had a few different performance aspects… and in my opinion, looks WAY better. DLC 2 was a bit small, but it worked out fine for me. The Aston V12 Vantage ’10 was NOT in the game already. The closest thing (in terms of names) was the V8 (add 4 cylinders) Vantage ’99 (add 11 years). You couldve taken less than a minute (depending on website load speeds) to find that out in the “library” section of GTPlanet. That was a very welcome addition, especially since we only have ONE premium Aston. I’d be glad that PD upgraded a standard car to premium, since they had claimed they wouldn’t ever do that. Plus, this allowed us to have 2 premium CLASSIC LMP cars. I don’t see why you’re complaining about the Aventador; it looks great, sounds great, feels great, and many people wanted it. And it probably would feel like the Murciélago, because the Aventador is the Murciélago’s replacement. Mini’s are a very common car (at least where I’m from) so it’d make sense in GT; PD have put in MANY common cars that you see in almost every region, to make the game feel “welcoming” in a sense. It’s pretty cool to find a car you own or once owned and be able to trick it out in interesting ways, and most of all, race it at many famous race tracks. So as stated, I don’t really have a problem with Mini; in fact the new Mini Roadster wouldn’t be bad addition in my eyes; I live near a Mini dealer, and that car looks pretty nice. Aside from the Leaf being a Nissan, it won “car of the year award”, so there’s another reason why it’s in the DLC. Plus, what I stated about the Mini’s and common cars kinda applies here. That Beetle was NOT in the game already. The new one was the ’66, the original was the ’49. It’s better in just about every way… and was INCREDIBLY famous (Ever heard of Herby the Love Bug?). It almost seems like EVERY single bit of content released for GT5 has been a waste to you, based on what you said. So quick question; what content do YOU want to see the MOST? Yeah, I GUESS the Speed Pack could’ve been in the game, but we know why it wasn’t; PD’s re-building of the physics engine, and the forced release by Sony. So if PD had gotten the two extra years they wanted, and didn’t move some workforce over to GT6 in the process, these cars (all premium), tracks (all high-res, maybe all with weather/day/night cycles), and features would’ve likely been in the game at the start, and some. It hasn’t been two years, and PD hasn’t had their full workforce on GT5 since it’s release, so you can’t really say the game will or should be complete by the end of this theoretical “extra two years”.

I would like more content in the DLC’s as well, but your missing the point as to WHY there isn’t. It’s the fact that PD are working on GT6, and because of this the GT5 department has a low workforce. It’s there fore harder to get content out quickly, and this is why T10 has so much content coming out so quickly. So YES, PD should hire a more workers, in case you were going to say that. As stated, the game COULD’VE been perfect, but the forced release caused it not to be the case. So he still WANTED the game to be perfect, but Sony didn’t allow it. If the dev. time was extended, more funds from Sony would be needed, and there wouldn’t be any income due to no released content.

I never thought you WERE a Forza fan, and I honestly wouldn’t care if you were. I only have a problem if you are outright insulting me, the fans, or parts of the game that you aren’t properly educated on. We may have different opinions due to you being one who started with GT1, and I only recently got into the series with GT5. I DO MY RESEARCH THOUGH, I don’t blindly argue. I take the given facts, give my take on them, and talk about them when someone is explaining something differently than how I see it. I take others opinions and views into account though, so that I can understand why they think certain ways, and it usually gives me broader opinions and views on things. So I see how you can feel that GT5 was a BIG disappointment compared to the GT standards; I’d have to agree, but it’s what we’ve got now, and it’s looking like we’re going to have to wait for GT6 to have a PROPER GT game. I don;t think it’s worth trying to improve GT5 to where it could’ve been; too much work is required, it will likely take up FAR too much hard drive space and time to do it in, and it may not even be POSSIBLE. GT6 really is the answer, and there’s really no point in arguing with that, especially since so much progress has already been made on it. I’m saying the GT6 WILL be what GT5 SHOULD’VE been, but it’ll DEFINITELY be better, and that’s fact. So it’s a good wait, but it’ll be worth it.

And sorry I yelled a bit in the first few sentences, I was fed up with hearing things like “Tourist Trophy 2???” and “WTF? WHY DID PD MAKE THIS?” – It kinda blinded me and made me read things the wrong way.

I’m not sure that even GT6 will be as perfect as K.Y, and many of you think it will be ( that would be a stupid business thought, that why DLC’s will be the real money maker from now on, GT5 was suppose to be perfect, and It really isn’t, it’s a big laugh in my Book – It all comes down to the PS4 ( Hahahahaha I need to laugh again – sony’s first press conference in 2005, sold the ps3 to the world with exactly the things we were waiting for, but in the end we got much less) – and that’s why GT6 is in the works, instead of making GT5 perfect as it should have been long time ago – But It’s going to be a whole year savings to Get a new PS4 and GT6 – so Nahhh – I’ll stick to my old GT5 and My Old ps3, and Racing I-racing to get the real Sim feeling – because i have yet another feeling, that we will be a Donkey with a big flag in our butts in end anyway..

To earn money is a skill, and Sony is one of the most skilled ones out there, they will continue to find even more almost cruel ways to separate the content into small packets that will cost you even more and it will only get worse in the future :o)

We all have so many speculation on How PD works (Gt5 vs GT6 etc) but in the end No one, knows anything at all besides ( Sony and PD )

Happy weekend all – F1 from Montreal weee Now that is called racing, and its with more then just one company involved (ferrari)

well we shouldn’t forget that we are not the only ones to have a ps3 – that it supports GT5 is just a feature, so more items will be sold to grandma, so she can give a gift to the youngsters.. There are Lots of other race games for the PS3, besides GT5 – and therefor they have supported it for GT5 as well – That is obvious – this is not meant for guys like us :o)

It’s bad in the same way that kinect is bad for racing games, you have to keep your arms in the air which will be tiring instead of resting them on a wheel or on your lap for a joypad. Imagine trying the nurburgring 24 hours non-stop with that. :D”

Turn 10 and Playground Games made Forza Horizon… not Microsoft, they’re just the publishers (or “advertisers”, per say). And Forza Horizon doesn’t look all that bad… And Sony didn’t make the Move Wheel specifically FOR GT, it’s just for racing games on the PS3. All of the other systems already had wireless motion sensor wheels, so Sony had to make one to keep up with the pace. It’s really only announce on GTPlanet because it’s COMPATIBLE with GT5.
