GTPlanet WRS Qualifier Now Open for GT5

Photomode image courtesy of Animera.

If you’re tired of A-spec and B-spec racing in Gran Turismo 5 and are eager to compare yourself to the rest of the racing community, this could be just the thing for you. The official GTPlanet Weekly Race Series (WRS) is a friendly yet competitive weekly contest that has been running since early 2003 in the guise of a hotlap or time trial competition between drivers of all abilities and backgrounds. Beginning with GT3, the WRS has evolved and grown through GT4 and GT5:P where online functionality and official race events were incorporated. Now, WRS has arrived for GT5.

So, how do you get involved?

STEP 1: Join the GTP Registry by creating a GTP_Tag PSN account here

STEP 2: Run the GTP WRS Qualifier. Details here

STEP 3: Submit your confidential qualifying times between Jan 14 2011 and Jan 28 2011

STEP 4: Await divisional placement and announcement of WRS Week 1 two weeks after the Jan 28 deadline

Further detailed information on all of the above can be found in this very useful post, and can be discussed on the forums here

Potential competitors are asked to first of all run an official WRS qualifier combo selected by the GTP Race Admin team in order to be placed in a division appropriate to their ability. It has been WRS tradition for competitors to not only be able to win a weekly race overall, but also take glory in their own division. Due to the new physics engine of GT5, all interested drivers are asked to run the new-for-GT5 qualifier.

Some important information:

  • The GTP WRS is run according to our strict but fair Online Racing (OLR) rules and guidelines found here
  • Registry Qualifier times and any information pertaining to them must be kept confidential and only revealed to Race Admin staff during submission
  • The WRS is mainly a time-trial / hotlapping contest, but your GTP_tag and divisional status will be used for upcoming official GTP Race Events
  • It might be a good idea if you’re interested to see how the WRS has been run in the past and what it entailed. The archive can be found here and the details of the GT5:Prologue WRS here

Remember to have fun and always show respect for your competitors. The WRS has never been a win-at-all costs kind of competition, but with prominent members of other GT forums such as GTRP, GTro and GT5rs also popping in from time to time and having a go, the best drivers that compete in the GTP_WRS are well recognised in the online community! So if you think you have what it takes, join us in the WRS forums

  1. Bloodimayhem

First time WRS’er long time forum reader.
I have created my new account and am now preparing to send the required cars to my shiny new account: GTP_Bloodimayhem to get to lvl 12.
For those that are complaining about it, it takes a little time but in my opinion, worth it and very easy.
See you all on the track!

    Cheers All,

  2. GTP_TsuTey

I think it will be cool to go online and race against other GTPs, knowing that it will be a clean race. So even just that is enough incentive to get a new account, just wish I thought of the bday exploit when I did it though.

  3. davissi

I didn’t notice it was tuned, oh dear oh dear, takes far too much time to do it in that case and still people find tricks. Its not a true test, if you’re slower its natural to go and adjust your tune whereas if its non-tuned you have to go off and simply improve your driving to catch up.

I don’t have a tagged account anyway lol but I was gonna test myself for practice against loads of fast guys by looking at the times.

Have fun anyway. All the best.

  4. zdenko

I’m going to be another complainer about the gtp_name thing. I have not competed in the WRS since GT4 days because of this so called “necessary need” to have such a tag. I don’t see how it affects the series at all, and it is just a silly requirement to yell out GTP. So once again I will not be joining. Especially now with the complexity of sending cars from one account to the other, simply too hard.

    1. Dranddad

Oh no I’m deeply sorry you won’t be joining us zdenko your presences will be greatly missed, oh well we’ll just have to carry on.

    1. Synwraith

If you take the time to read what is written above, that has been repeated so many times both here and in the associated threads on the forum, you will see that the Qualifying results and your tag will also be used for future officially organised GTP race events.

Your attitude is quite surprising considering you actually registered for a GTP tag and ran the Prologue qualifier, not to mention the GT Academy. Both time trials were they not? Both done for a greater cause somewhere down the line? This is the same thing, whether you race for GTHQ or not.

Anyway, another thing that has been mentioned is that those with an attitude like yours and lack of attention to detail will undoubtedly cause us much trouble and headache in the future. If you change your attitude and your mind, you know where to find us.

      All the best
      Maz

  5. jasr73

Awesome Synwraith, I’ll be sorting this tonight as I don’t have a GTP_user name. It’s very appreciated that GT Planet staff and Race Admin devote there own time to organise such a professional event. I like what Hun200Kmh said about ‘being accountable for your behaviour’ i.e. racing in a gentlemanly manner. I mention in my existing GT5 profile about being a GT Planet Member for this very reason. A new GTP_ PSN, only cements this intent further for me.

For those that are thinking they can’t be bothered, I ask: How much time did you spend eagerly watching the install bar when you first booted GT5 up? A lot more than it would take for you to meet the basic requirements and take part in this and other great events that will no doubt follow. Cheers.

    1. Dranddad

      Nice reply jasr73.

Look forward to seeing you in WRS and other race event put on by our Race Admin.

      Phillip.

  6. betogtr

C´mon guys , you don´t even need to create a new email just go to yopmail.com and you get one in less than 30 sec , the marketplace is full of guys with over 10psn´s , If you would like to participate it´s not that hard to makeanother account , although its´s kind of a hassle to lvl up to be able to participate , but as they said use the seassonal events or (not sure if this works ) I think you can enter special events when you reach the level either on a or b spec so gift a x1 to the new account and let bob do the rest

  7. Buttocks

It’s not just getting to level 12 – There will be WRS with high level cars, and I have already put a lot of time and effort into my current game. I understand it’s necessary, yada yada… Unfortunately I just don’t have time to run two GT5 accounts. Just wish I’d known about this at an earlier stage.

    1. Synwraith

High level cars can be gifted to your GTP account from your main account. You only have to be a high level to buy those cars originally, any level of driver can actually use them. But again, the choice is yours, you have to weigh up the benefit of top-level fair high-volume competition with the downside of the odd gifted car and a maximum of 1 hour levelling.

    2. Dranddad

The same can also be said the other was round, many many many old members of GTP_WRS have made their way back into WRS, hundreds if not thousands all putting time and the same effort into the new game on their old GTP_Tags.

Should they be expected to forgo their time and effort just because none GTP_Tag members can’t be bothered?
It is a very simple decision really, you either in the words of Yoda “Do or do not” there is no Try.

Nobody is saying you have to join now, in six or seven months time when you’ve got as far as you can with GT5, you may be looking for something else to do, perhaps decide to join WRS then.

      Phillip.

  8. Dranddad

As a GTP_Member already I would just like to say a Big Welcome to all the new GTP_account holders.

When your enjoying the fun in weeks to come you’ll look back at this thread and smile, thinking about what all the others are missing out on :-)

    Phillip.

  9. TheWayIAm

i did mine yesterday :), GTP_Eizoz, took me 5mins on the PC to register a new email address and a new PSN Tag (www.playstation.com) and i’m still alive! no heart attacks, no stroke, no grim ripper after me…

unfortuntely, like i already said, i don’t think i’ll have the time to enter THIS comp.. but i’ll try.

  10. GTP_Vince_Fiero

For me on the current limited time qualifier the most important is:

All registered GTP_Registry members must complete this qualifier to remain on the GTP_Registry.

So it is mainly for people that did this before (=have an account with GTP tag already) and want to remain on (even if they do not participate in the WRS every week).

For all the others, it is very much possible to do this later (after the period the moderators have given themselves to do this first start up of the registry), take your time to get your level up if you feel this is needed or just join if you feel like it.

The whole idea of the divisions (1,2,3,4,5) is that GTPlanet recognises that not all racers are able to compete at the same level and with WRS you can build a career, compare to people in the same division and move up when appropriate.

  11. GTP_unkymo

The time has come, my lurking days at GT Planet are over!

I’ve set up the account (which was simple), levelled up to level 20 (which was easy also) and I’m good to go!

  12. shinbone

    Darn. I would participate but:
A.) I’m not really all that good
B.) I’m only level 12 in my main account

Sounds fun though, does it end on jan. 28th? Or does another session begin after it?

    1. strop

Even if you haven’t even started it’s not that hard. I haven’t done much except a couple of goes at the GT Academy racing. I used 60K I had to buy a GTR V-Spec, ran the Seasonal Event race and came last. Used the money from that to do some upgrades, came 12th … repeat until I was at level 14 and had enough dough to buy the SL. Took about an hour.

As for the tag, they’ve been around for a long time so not going to change anytime soon. Think of it as a good filter for people who don’t mind playing by the rules. Or you can go race online with a bunch of random idiots driving backwards and playing smash up derby while yelling obscenities at anyone who hasn’t muted them yet. Trust me, the WRS crowd is a lot more friendly and interesting to race against.

    2. Dranddad

      Shinbone.

It really doesn’t matter how good you are or how bad you think you are, here at WRS it’s all about enjoying the game and the weekly race series. Nobody will judge your performance from week to week.

Yes you may not come first every week but I can assure you of this, you want be last every week.

You’ll find members will help and encourage you to do better week in week out, you ask a question your sure to get lots of replies, like asking someone to view your replay at the end of the week, pinpointing parts where you could take things a little different and maybe improve.

Make your account, GTP_Tag start practicing the qualifier and submit your time at the appropriate date and enjoy, it’s as simple as that.

      Good luck.

      Phillip.

  13. Brandon

Sounds like excellent fun, and a great tradition to be a part of. Too bad you have to make a special PSN account to participate. :(

    1. Brandon

Sorry to double post. I guess I should’ve reead the posts above me before replying. I guess I am just another seat on the bus.

  14. cenk

When sony doesnt require a new PSN to participate in GT acedemy, why does GTP require one for their race series?

GTP is losing more than 50% of the canditates.. big dissapointment..

lets see if they will do anything about this.. if voted, they would lose the debate.

    1. N99GT

OMG!!! if you dont want to make a new PSN account and you want to enter the WRS then tuff stop making a big fuss and hooohaaar about it! jeeeeeesssssssssss!

    2. pudge

Look, I am not a big fan of this idea either, but if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it. It’s their rule, they made it awhile ago, and they aren’t changing it for a bunch of whiners who have come late to the party.

And there is logic to it … it means that if you are going to participate, you have some — at least small — measure of devotion to participation in the community itself. If that is not worth the hassle to you, then it seems to me you aren’t wanted by them anyway.

    3. WayneGTC

      But Looooool !!!

Yes Sony does require a PSN account to participate GTacademy. Don’t you have register to participate ???

If you don’t want to participate, up to you, but please don’t loose your time & ours whining on this thread, fair enough !

  15. Marchbrown

Because I really like the GTP community and because I have the deepest respect for the time and effort most mods put into making this one of the best sim sites on my dear computer screen I wonder if its possible to ditch my regular marchbrown tag and only use GTP or GTP_? Is it?

  16. Litzner

I would love to be involved with this, but since we cannot copy our game saves over to a new account it is just not worth the hassle of sending cars back and forth between two accounts all the time.

And there is no reason to require a GTP prefix, it is just a vanity plug for GTP.

  17. GTP_spacecadetcc

Glad to see the WRS events coming. As someone who has been following GTPlanet for a few years, I paid attention and knew about the GTP_ account and started my GT5 with that account.

Thanks to the admins and people involved in putting this together. I wish you strength to endure this comment thread!

I am happy to be a part of a gang – actually it’s a club – and I think GTPlanet is a great resource, so I am happy to promote our club. Every club has procedures and rules and if you don’t follow them, you don’t get to play. GTPlanet just happens to be very open to everyone in most cases but has a few simple rules for participating in its own events. Just like the ‘real’ car club that I belong to.

(and really, how hard is it to make a quick gmail account?)

  18. brainfade

@Synwraith/MAZ/anyone who can answer my question:

I have no problems with the GTP_ tag its not joining a ‘gang’ or ‘group’ its just a means of getting rid of the morons who cant drive properly, I just want people to race against me PROPERLY, I’m sick to death of people deliberately ramming better drivers, cutting all chicanes, cutting the 2nd chicane at Monza which no one seems to get punished for, im sick of races being ruined by people not using breaks and the odd moron driving the wrong way, either that or people ignoring rules stipulated in the room name.

Only thing im worried about, is… do I have to start a new GT5 game or can I assign it to both my PSN IDs in someway?

    1. Hun200kmh

You have to start a new GT5 game (they are account locked, so new account = new gamesave) and that MIGHT be a problem because of the A-Spec level required to enter the AMG Intermediate … BUT … as stated above, you only need to do one or two of the seasonal events to get to the A-Spec level required. If you need a good car to do them, but don’t have (in the GTP account) the money needed or the Level required to buy it, just give the car needed from your current “main” game (where you should be rich ;-) to your new GTP account. Simple.

  19. protocollo

    @Hun200kmh

“After understanding all that is involved in this … do you guys still think making a new PSN ID is such a big problem? Come on …”

Hello, if is only gtplanet, is a small problem. But, i play from years… many years. PS3, e-mail, credit cards ext.. a lots of password, id, account, forum, log-in…. slowly bacame a big problem. Just i think is unecessary. I have one psn id, for me is enought. (bad english, sorry). Friendly, protocollo.

  20. Hun200kmh

I simply don’t understand what problem people have with creating a new PSN ID with the GTP tag on it. However, if indeed this is a problem, so be it. Just don’t take part.

But I’d like to ask this: WHY do you give yourselves the trouble of taking part in a qualifier to be placed into a division and to be able to take part in official GTP Events and – if you want it – the Weekly RS?

I suppose the answer is: because you are looking for a competitive environment where you know you can trust your fellow racers and where you know that, in case of problem, someone in the organization will deal with it and hopefully solve it.

    RIGHT?

SO … you may not realize, but there’s a lot of work involved in this. Work that is done for YOUR benefit.

(well, to be fair, it’s not about you, dear reader, it’s about something larger, a online racing worldwide community. Don’t feel small or humble, but don’t be selfish also, it’s just the way things are and your gaming experience will be better because of this)

Now, the guys that organize this and don’t get paid to do it (I can categorically say that I belong to the GTP Registry for a numbers of years and never paid anything to anyone because of it)want to have a list of players easy to organize and sort out. Also, they need a visual clear distinction between the players whose behaviour online is accountable and the ones that aren’t. Also, the GTP tag isn’t supposed to be a burden, or to mean that you belong to a “gang”, but something you bring to your online racing as a sign that supposedly means you are racing according to fair online rules. Being totally irrelevant if you use it in official gtplanet events or in your everyday online adventures. IF you use it, you are responsible for what you do.

To end this (too) long post, I’ll speak of my personal experience. I did the original first qualifier for GT5P, but for a number of reasons, never could enter any official GTP event, and never entered the WRS also. However, I have been using my tagged ID ever since. Not because I am a snob, but because I want people to understand that I follow OLR rules out there, even if it’s the first time they meet me online.

After understanding all that is involved in this … do you guys still think making a new PSN ID is such a big problem? Come on …

    1. Moby45

well said. I applaud you sir.

I can’t stress enough how hard it is to find competition online that isn’t very far out of wack!

So at the least everybody should appreciate what the organisers are trying to do here.
So 1 downfall is you gotta create a new name. So what, you are probably done with the game on your original name by now. This gives you something to work for again.

  21. Moby45

I am totally interested in this.

I think my question has been answered but, if I am not able to make this event I can make ones in the future right??

Also, when I make that new account who and how do i send it to who it goes to? I missed that in the instructions(either that or I got confused).

    1. w-g-e

There’s no deadline for the WRS. The registration will close January the 28th, but will open again some weeks after that.

  22. TheWayIAm

btw i also understand why people wouldnt want to create a new PSN Tag it’s a little annoying.. i’ve been meaning to use another one as my Main PSN Tag but jsut cannot be arsed to have to start all the thrphies etc all over again.. BUT this is new Tag is only for when you want to participate in any GTP events. no need to have it for anything else.
on the other hand if the saved file ‘trick’ doesnt work.. i think i’m going to opt out for now. mainly because atm i don’t have the time to level another account and i’d rather use the little time i have to lvl my master account. (i’ve just bought a Flat and i’m doing it up so not much time on my hands atm)

but i will be creating a new GTP Tag just to have it ready.

  23. protocollo

    Jamey

Why is there a need to make a new PSN account? Sounds fun but i don’t really like having to multi tag to join the comp.

^+1 agree, no need to create another psn

i agree, looks like but i don’t want jump inside diffrent account… sorry whit this contition i don’t partecipate at the event. protocollo.

  24. TheWayIAm

ok.. i’ve been reading through this and i have a few of points/ questions.

First… making a new email address and PSN takes 10mins tops.. trust me i’ve made about 20 to get the birthday gifts :).. secondly how lazy can you be to not want to make a new email and PSN (which are both FREE to do) and thirdly, i hope someone can test this before i get home so we know if it works or not, how about making the new PSN tag & Playstation Sub-Account and then copying your Master Account saved file to your Sub-account?? if that works.. then you get all the same stuff you have on your Master Account and if you are THAT bothered about a few points & some money you can always copy it back to your Master Account when you’re done.
personally my biggest bother is having to level if this method doesn’t work. so if someone can test this i’m sure many people will join if it works.

    1. 01GTP

That is the spirit we like.

Unfortunately the save can not be transferred to a different PSN name, even a sub account.

I did transfer a save from the same PSN on a different PS3 but I have not confirmed it is usable. I have not started the PS3 since I transferred the save.

  25. Dranddad

So easy to setup another account, even for an old disabled bugger like me. Took about an hour to reach LV20 and have 2.3 mill credits in the bank.

    Phillip.

    1. Vince_Fiero

I believe people should look at history of Philip and how he moved from a bad classified driver to quite a fast one in the last year through WRS.

It is worth putting in the effort, if you want to get better.

  26. Timppaq

It is quite great imo that it takes a little time to get involved in this.. then some / most of the guys who never would run the races anyway will not even enter.

If the registry had 4000 people but only 500 would be actually involved, it would create A LOT of unnecessary work for the OLR team.

  27. Goshin2568

Wow all this whining is unbelievable! If you can’t take the 30 minutes to get the GTP tag and the level squared away, then good riddance!

  28. Rca909

I would be interested but I’m not adding GTP to my PSN. I’ve done far too much in my current PSN tag to start over in another one. Let us know if you ever run any events that don’t require a new PSN.

    1. Small_Fryz

Even if it only takes 15mins to setup an account and you can still use your existing one for normal play anyway?

Having 2 accounts can be helpful, twice the coverage on the used lot to pickup those rare cars, plus with the season events its just too easy to level and get cash. The latest ones offer 3.5 million in prizes and 350,000xp.

  29. GTP_MJH

In the time that some of you have spent complaining, you could have created the GTP_ tag.

You don’t even need to create a new e-mail address, you can just make one up.

Put you birthday as the date you create your account, using the year of your choice and get a cool car from that year as a birthday present too.

The GTP_ tag is part of the rules, it has been discussed many times before. As someone has already mentioned, it is the GTP Team kit / uniform.

    Matt.

  30. sporkafife

If I’m not amazing at racing, I only have a Dualshock 3 controller, but I love racing on GT5 :)

I’m looking forward to meeting up with guys just like me who love to race online (we are allowed to us DS3’s aren’t we? lol)

  31. Circuit*star

Well MAZ u see I spend much time on this game and it will not bother to post 100 videos to you from me playing.
But it will bother me if I’m force to put GTP_tag next to my PSN. So the idea to imply that Gtp tag should be on my psn is idiotic and stupid, I don’t have no interest in putting a GTP next to my psn Thank you.
    1. I don’t just play GT5 on ps3
    2. I don’t want to be part of the team tag or gang
    3. It Doesn’t look good

I just want to participate in the racing league series to prove and improve my skills. As you can see is not just me thinking this is stupid, so how about we vote to be fair for those who wants the tag and does who doesn’t want to create another account.

    thank you.

    PSn: XavierFWD

    1. GTP_Sphinx

I’m surprised you even bothered to post. You clearly don’t want to become part of the GT OLR community, but that’s OK.

The WRS is the longest running weekly racing series on the Internet. It’s been what, 8 years now and has been very sucessful whilst attracting many of the top GT drivers from around the world. Not something to be sniffed at if you want to get the chance to race alongside or compete against them.

Take a look at this driver list from one of our major events:
      http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/Pdq_Sphinx/IFTC/final-drivers-01.jpg

      http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/Pdq_Sphinx/IFTC/final-drivers-02.jpg

      http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/Pdq_Sphinx/IFTC/final-drivers-04.jpg

If you’re not competing against these guys, then you’re not competing at the highest level.

    2. AGTFan

Agree, sure more people will join if without the gtp psn thing. it is not the time spent on creating the id, but having to sign into different account for different game is the trouble that many try to avoid. can try a vote and see.
800 participants is not that many consider the amount of visiting each day on this site.

    3. GTP_Sphinx

There will be no vote. Honestly guys, if you can’t spare 20 minutes of your time when the race admins are prepared to spare the next few years organising this for you then you are clearly not what we are looking for. As always, we are looking for a very high standard. This high standard starts at registration.

    4. 01GTP

You are not forced to do anything.

You are to follow all instructions that the GTP OLR Administration provides it you want to be on the Registry.

You don’t want to follow the rules, don’t.

You will not be accepted to the GTP Registry without the GTP tag, simple.

Find a league that suits you, as this one does not.

  32. Danny_GT2

Have 1 more question. The only way I can record this is on my iPhone & only way I can send it, as I have no mail accounts linked on my iPhone, is via YouTube! Would that be suitable??

  33. BubbleBelly542

I would do it if I didn’t have to make a GTP name. Obviously this didn’t need to done on GT3 and GT4 becuase there was no PSN!

    1. Goshin2568

      Why???
It seriously takes less than a half hour to set up a new psn and get yourself to level 12. Honestly if you can’t take the time to do that how are you going to take the time to do the time trials?

  34. josh

I don’t understand do we do sector 2 and 3 seperate and then add the total time of 2 and 3, or do we run a whole lap – submit the total time of lap + the splits for 2 and 3?

    1. Synwraith

Josh, first of all good work on creating a tag and taking the time to make the effort. Thumbs up mate.

Secondly, make sure to read all of the information in the Qualifier post which is linked a couple of times in the news post. It specifically mentions that you need to enter the AMG Special Event – Intermediate, and once there you do the individual Sector 2 trial, then the individual sector 3 trial (2nd and 3rd events in Intermediate respectively). Add your times together and submit when appropriate.

      All the best
      Maz

  35. josh

To anyone who’s not considering doing it i just did it – ( gifted my new psn account the r35 gtr and raced the seasonal event) all of which took 20 minutes tops.. If you do well in the seasonal event then you have $700k to buy cars with for upcoming events and instantly level 12+ providing you place well.
Now i just have to make new gtplanet account lol.

  36. GTP_lapierre4

Hey, for those who say it’s too complicated to create a new account with GTP_ in front, then yeah don’t create it because it clearly shows that you won’t put much effort in the time trials and races that this forum will provide. With the type of guys that run here, I can tell you that you will need A LOT of practice time to be close… or even not close! Anyway just saying that the amount of time needed to level up to 14 in a new account is really small compared to the time you will need to have good results here!

  37. Danny_GT2

Hey guys, was thinking of doing this but with the creation of a new account, will that mean I will have to start from scratch & do licenses etc again??

    1. Synwraith

Nope. Read the instructions posted just a little further up to see how to level up nice and quickly without the need for any licences.

      All the best
      Maz

  38. Jamey

This will just lead to more multitagging of the in game leaderboards when they show up. Is it against the TOS to make multiple accounts? Good luck though! I guess i will have to join a different site to race. Thanks Jamey

  39. grog

Great idea, but like others have pointed out there are way too many needless hoops to jump through. especialy considering the fact that we can actualy compete online now, why limit yourself to time trials?

    1. Synwraith

The time trials are just the weekly segment of the competition and they suit the members who cannot always be available for weekly meet-ups and also help us compete with our counterparts on the other side of the globe.

Also, as it says in the article, the tag will then be used in future GTP race events and inter-forum race events.

There are just enough hoops to attract those who will take it seriously :)

      All the best
      Maz

    2. WayneGTC

When you will have time to check the archive, you will find some more Online events too and online battles ;)

having the GTP tag is not only for the WRS, will surely be a lot of more events ;)

  40. JamboGT

Hmmm had a go at remembering my GTP accounts password, got it! Will have a few goes at this but have exams and assignments so not a concerted effort!

  41. GTP_Sigma

    ^Good to hear.

Hope to see many new faces in the GT5 Wrs, I’m sure there will be plenty of new racers to show off there skill, which is great…So long as you’re not too fast. ;) :P

  42. josh

My comment was posted before i seen your post Synwraith explaining how to “reduce the pain” .
I thought it would be a lot more complicated and drawn out than that and of course will happily be following that guide as the gt-R seasonal event is a breeze :)

    See ya’s on the track.

  43. WayneGTC

    Great work again MAZ ;)
Really don’t understand why people can’t waste 5 min to create a GTP tag PSN Id, I have 4 PSN account and with the seasonal events you are level 20 & 3 million cash in less than 1 hour.

+ the fun we all have runnig the GTP events !!!

    Anyway, we’ll be there ;)

  44. Small_Fryz

Looking forward to competing in the WRS again!

Really is one of the most prestigious and recognized Race events in the GT world and I have enjoyed the company ever since my first one back in the GT3 days!

So far I have spent 30mins creating and setting up my GTP account (including getting to level 16) and close to 10 hours on the Qualifier, So in the grand scheme of things its only a very minor inconvenience to setup your Tag.

While I would prefer to race with my original PSN I completely understand the reason behind the decision. Come to think of it, it would look really good to have a lobby full of GTP_ and GTRP_ Members having an inter-forum battle.

I see the GTP tag as the uniform you wear when representing a sports club. Imagine a sports team turning up to an event all dressed differently haha.

I wish the qualifier was over already so we can get racing!!

    1. Russianmule

I should start a club for all people who drive regular cars to. I hate sharing the road with cars that smoke.

  45. arora

    I know it’s virtual racing and not real life but this comparison should still hold some water;

How would you like to take your prized race car out to the track and race against others you know have not taken any safety courses, don’t have proper equipment, driving a smoking car leaking oil like a civ, etc. It’s the same thing in a way, it’s mainly about making an effort to show you are serious about your online racing conduct.

  46. GTP_pk_090

I really dont understand why you are all causing a fuss about something so small, its not as if were asking you do to get to lvl 12 instantly, you have until late january to post your time, and all the people that are currently registered as GTP_ have been in the exact same situation all you guys are.

  47. Tryone

Would a page on the forum or a kind of wiki like list not be a better idea ? where everybody just adds there PSN name to that if they agree to the OLR guidelines and rules.

If they break them ban there GTP account from editing the wiki, its not like if somebody did break the rules they couldnt just make a new GTP_ account anyway, if they wanted to play again so desperatley, the new account is so much hassle for people, especially people in full time work and education, we just want to play the game! the menu system is already a mess as it is dont make it worse by doubling the amount of times we have to see it !

    1. WayneGTC

Sorry to say that, but if you can’t spend 5 min of your time creating a GTP tag, then you might not have more time to run any event or play online ???

      No offense ;)

  48. cramerizking

Yeah sounds like a cool idea but the account bs will definitely keep me out of the competition. Yeah it’s not THAT much extra efford but an annoyance none the less.

    1. vardd

I just created a new account
Took me 15 min total to reach lv 15.

Set up account and such 10 min.
Transfer Ford Gt to do seasonal race.

      do the race, 5 min.
      Tadam, lv 15.

  49. arora

I’m not sure what all the fuss is about tbh, it’s not that hard to make a new psn account. This topic has been argued for what seems to be months now, silly. If you are not willing to take a few extra steps to obtain the tag then don’t race in the wrs, there are plenty of other organized events and online tt’s etc. BTW I’m personally holding off out of lazyness but I’m not complaining because I understand the reasoning behind the tag.

  50. Von

Got no way of uploading the replay at the moment, otherwise I’d join in.
Wish they put in the youtube function :(

    1. Synwraith

You can upload your replay by:

      1. Exporting your replay to XMB from the GT5 Replay Theatre
      2. Quit game, plug in a USB stick to the PS3 and transfer the replay file from your GT5 Game Data folder to the USB
      3. Copy the “PS3” folder from the USB to your computer
      4. Zip up the folder, and submit to Race Admin staff if requested, remembering that probably only the top 10 drivers in each division will have their replays requested.

I hope this can help you to participate.

      All the best
      Maz

    2. Von

Yeah, for some reason I forgot about USB stick’s :)My SD card slot on my PC has gone funky so cant transfer it over that way.
Will have a scan on amazon for SD adapter or a USB stick.

  51. pablo2008jedi

Guess I’ll be leaving GT Planet if I can’t participate in official events. I’m not going to create a new PSN account just for one game. Sorry but future events may require certain levels and I ain’t got the time to grind 2 accounts.

    1. Synwraith

No grinding will be necessary. If you happen to see a WRS event you wish to participate in, gift your GTP account the necessary car for that whole week. That’s not a massive effort is it? Also, the qualifier does not require you to own a car, it provides the SLS AMG, and instructions are posted above on how to level up to L16 in a heartbeat.

As Crazytortise has said, you’ll put in the effort if you’re that eager to compete. Leaving GTPlanet because you couldn’t be bothered to follow those quite frankly simple steps is entirely your loss.

      All the best
      Maz

    2. timcp

It took me not even half an hour to
      – create a new account
      – gift that account the gt-r
      – mount my wheel
      – place 2nd in the seasonal event and achieve level 14
      – start the intermediate AMG challenge and go off track a few times
      – notice it’s half past midnight and I should be sleeping not racing
      – type up this post

    3. GTP_hossdeluxecustom

      ^^^^^great comment lol

Its awesome have GTP_ infront of my name, especially when im playing a game other then GT5 and a person in that gae reconizes the tag and says “Holy ****, if we were playing GT5 we would get owned by him right now” and i reply “Ya, pretty much”
I’ve only had the Tag for a few hours and that already happened. i was playing a shooter.

  52. Serge

“you will need to create a new email address and PSN idea, neither of which take longer than 5 minutes”

Pity that, having that restriction will seriously reduce participation.

And it’s a PSN ID, (not “IDEA”)

    1. GTP_Sphinx

      You think?
Over 800 members signed up and ran the GT5P Qualifier.

If you don’t fancy finding out how you stack up against hundreds of other drivers then it’s up to you. It’ll be a shame if you don’t though.

    2. crazytortise

All this moaning about having to create a new account is a joke. If its so much effort to do that, what kind of effort are you going to put into WRS? Will you just register to show off your divisional placement and not take part once? I’m proud to have GTP infront of my PSN ID. Been here since GT5P WRS and will be here until GT11 WRS (when ever that may be)

  53. Josh

Would love to compete, however wouldn’t love to make new e-mail account, make new psn id, then go through the process of gifting cars to my other account, then starting A-spec again till i reached level 12 just to be able to even compete.
I mean what is the point of even having the GTP_taghere other than advertising?
It seems very trivial and irrelevant that if i post a good time, race fair and clean that i should be excluded from qualifying because i don’t have 3 letters in front of my name.
I sure hope the same trivial rules don’t apply for the seasonal leagues because i’d love to race in them and compare myself to others.

    1. Synwraith

The GTP tag will be used not only for the Weekly race Series, but also for official GTP Race events between registry members as well as inter-forum board challenges of which there will undoubtedly be many in the months to come.

The tag informs other drivers that you abide by our OLR guidelines and rules and it has been a decision taken by the GTP Race Admin team that it is required for all official GTP competition.

Of course it is your choice, but the fact is that if you wish to compete in WRS, you will need to create a new email address and PSN ID, neither of which take longer than 5 minutes. The instructions posted by myself above also reduce greatly the effort required to reach the appropriate level with your GTP account.

      All the best
      Maz

    2. Vic

Feel the same here. Further, creating a new PSN is not a big deal, but the fact that all the experience point and credit or whatever I get from the GTP account will not contribute to my main account, that is the problem. I believe this really keeping a lot of people from joining the event.

    3. Synwraith

As Sphinx has said, we had 800 members sign up to run the Prologue qualifier, so it is not as big a deterrant as you may imagine.

Running time trials/free run and hotlaps in GT5 would not have contributed to your XP and credits regardless of what account you were using, main or sub-account. If you are referring to the Special Events section of the game which is the selected combo for the qualifier, the WRS events will not always be in that subsection of GT5, and you can only claim XP/creds for those once anyhow.

In your case the entire purpose of the GTP account would be for WRS, which I imagine if you were that eager to run, you would take the time to create the tag as it is in a way an acceptance of the GTP OLR guidelines and rules.

      All the best
      Maz

    4. GTP_Sphinx

There we are, all in a lobby racing against other forums who are all tagged up and we are there looking like a bunch of amateurs with no tag. Nice!

  54. Synwraith

Courtesy of Scaramanga, instructions on how to reduce the pain of levelling a new account:

    1. Make sure that your GTP account is on the Friends List of your primary account.
    2. Send the GT-R V-Spec that you used for seasonal event 1 (it is still live until 6th Jan) as a gift to your GTP account.
    3. Sign in to your GTP account and load up the game. Do not worry about doing the install. Go to GT Life and accept the gift car from your primary account.
    5. Go to settings and make any changes you want in terms of button configuration etc.
    6. Go to seasonal event race 1 and do the GT-R race. First run through I came 2nd which netted me 700,000 cr and fired me straight up to level 14!

Once this is done you are ready to roll. Your level is now sufficient to enter the AMG Intermediate Challenge.

EDIT: SInce the seasonal event for the GTR race ends today, you can also apply this logic to the NASCAR@Nurburgring seasonal event race.

  55. davissi

Hey Maz how’s it going ? I’d love to get involved in these competitions but without the name change, all the best Dave.

    1. Synwraith

David, it would be fantastic to have you involved in the WRS and I would go to great lengths to make that possible. Unfortunately the creating of a GTP tag for WRS is not something that will change in the near future. I do very much hope you change your mind, the competition would be greatly enhanced by your presence, and you did also take the time to create a PureGT tag, so hopefully it won’t be too much effort for you buddy.

      All the best
      Maz

  56. Razor

Synwraith, as you can see, you will loose lots of potential participants due to this PSN_name issue people will have to deal with.

    1. TommyWizard

No mate, its not. You’d need to make a new one, and a new email address aswell if you only have the one.

  57. pudge

FlareKR, you don’t need a car: you get the one in the special event. But the thing that kinda sucks here is that you need to level up your (in my case, newly created) GTP_ account to 12 before you can participate (that’s the minimum level needed for AMG Driving Academy / Intermediate).

But there’s still a lot of time to do that.

    1. Jamey

Why is there a need to make a new PSN account? Sounds fun but i don’t really like having to multi tag to join the comp.

    2. Synwraith

There is a need to create another PSN account (5 mins) because those are the rules stipulated by the Race Admin team for all the reasons mentioned on numerous occasions on this very page.

People have rightfully observed that if candidates are not willing to make this very small effort or experience this “annoyance” then they probably will not have the patience or dedication to post replays when they need to verify their times or take the time to read the OLR regulations.

      All the best
      Maz

    3. Keyz13

I guess I can’t make another psn account, because it will not accept my email (as it’s being used by my REAL psn). I will not create some other email address just do do this. Any ideas?

    5. crazytortise

You cant always get what you want. If you think it’s stupid then you more then welcome to start your own site and make your own rules. These are the rules so deal with it.

    6. hossdeluxe

      @Synwraith
I wondered hat the logic was behind that and its well… ingenious. that makes sense know. but i wish i knew a few days ago otherwise i would have been trying to level up. oh well, when i go back on imma do that right away.

  58. FlareKR

Hopefully it’s not during school hours, sounds like fun, but do we HAVE to have that GTP ID? I don’t want to work on an other save data or be giving cars back and forth between IDs.

    1. DustDriver

Every week a new challenge will be posted, so you can chose when to run some laps to get a time.
And yes, you have to have a GTP ID.

    2. Circuit*star

why i need to put gtp next to my psn? is kind of annoying looking at gtp_blah blah, looks like a gang.I dont want to be part of a gang. What about those that already have a team tag name what they going to used….GTP_TEAM blah blah psn thats weird.

    3. Mr_Hansen

With GTP, you could easily copy your saved date from your original account – to your new one. Just find the location of the savegame – press ‘triangle’ and choose something like copy (can’t remember) – and select the other account

  59. pudge

Do we need to “register” our GTP_Tag account somehow on this site, or just create it on PSN and then include it with our submission?
