Fanatec has just announced a significant update to one of its most popular direct drive wheel offerings for PlayStation and PC gamers: the Gran Turismo DD Pro series will now ship with the company’s next-generation QR2 quick release system pre-installed. This move marks the completion of Fanatec’s ecosystem-wide transition to the new QR2 standard.
Previously, Gran Turismo DD Pro owners wanting to utilize Fanatec’s latest QR2-equipped steering wheels needed to purchase a separate QR2 Base-Side (Type-C) upgrade. Now, all new Gran Turismo DD Pro units will feature QR2 connectivity straight out of the box, promising a more robust and precise connection between the wheel and base.

This update applies to all three iterations of the product, and can be purchased via any of the affiliate links below:
- Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel Base (8 Nm)
- Gran Turismo DD Pro (5 Nm bundle)
- Gran Turismo DD Pro (8 Nm bundle)
The QR2-equipped Gran Turismo DD Pro models became available to purchase in Europe late last week and have officially rolled out to customers in the United States and Canada today.
North American Launch Promotion
To facilitate a smooth transition to the QR2 system in North America, Fanatec is launching a limited-time promotional offer.
Starting Monday, May 19th, customers in the US and Canada can purchase a special bundle featuring the original Gran Turismo DD Pro Wheel Base (QR1 version) combined with a separate QR2 Base-Side (Type-C) upgrade for $599.99 USD. This offer will be available until the remaining stock of the QR1 version of the wheelbase is depleted.
The Advantages of QR2
Fanatec’s new quick release system is a significant step up from the QR1. The primary advantage of the QR2 design is its improved torsional strength and stability. This means a more direct and flex-free connection between your steering wheel and wheelbase. In practical terms, this translates to more precise force feedback delivery, allowing you to feel even finer details from the virtual road surface and your car’s handling.
The QR2 also features a tapered, motorsport-derived design which ensures a snug fit every time you attach a wheel, eliminating any perceptible play or knocking sounds that could occasionally develop in some QR1 connections over extended use.
Furthermore, swapping wheels is quicker and often feels more secure with the QR2. For those who frequently switch between different rim types for various racing disciplines, the QR2 offers a more robust, reliable, and ultimately more immersive experience.
It’s also an essential upgrade to use newer Fanatec wheel rims, such as the recently-released Fanatec Porsche Vision GT Wheel. We found to be an excellent upgrade over the standard wheel rims included in both the Gran Turismo DD Pro and Gran Turismo DD Extreme.
