Unbelieveable Driving..

I'm amazed every time at just how much slower 1970s F1 cars look to the eye than modern ones - particularly in braking and cornering. Tires and downforce make such a dramatic difference.

Also, Dijon is a really cool track. I imagine that it must have been fun to drive in those old cars.

Heres the scary thing. The speed of the cars in those hillclimb videos is the same as the Superkarts! Why isn't that televised!

An awesome video mostly featuring the lesser-known Robert Droogmans in his FINA liveried Sierra.

No special driving in this footage really, just the greatest performance I've ever seen in a race.

A turbo engine with the typical turbo lag of the era and a chassis so agricultural it should have been pulling a plough.

No one else could have put that Ferrari 2nd on the grid. It was said that Piquet’s Pole winning Brabham ran underweight during qualifying.

No one else could have stayed close enough to Alan Jones to take advantage of his engine issues. That was the World Champion driver in a World Championship winning FW07.

The one place he could have an advantage was in the flat out blast of the tunnel. He couldn't do even that in the early laps. There had been a fire in the hotel over the tunnel before the race and water had fallen down into the tunnel making the track wet.

Many people say his Spain '81 victory was his best. They are wrong. Villeneuve at Monaco in 1981 is the very definition of great driving.

Great videos here !

I just have to put one more, about a driver rarely mentioned from the GREAT era of Rallying. He wasn't even my favourite (That would be Alen) but he sure was impressive, and effective. Even more so because he looked like a bald old man compared to all the others

I'm talking about the true, one and only ... STIG! :dopey:

The Stigs son now drives German F3.

An incredible save from Mark Higgins during his attempt at breaking the production car record round the IOM TT course...

I already posted that on the last page Sotty:P

Bet Ken Block couldn't win 7 F1 Drivers Championships ;)

ken block cant even win a rally.

 I think every single video is better driving than the original Block one posted.

I could watch rally video's all day...really fantastic to watch.

Oh, me too. Actually, I did the other day. I've been really getting into rallying lately and have immense respect for these drivers.

Okay, I'm no fan of Nascar, but that...that's impressive.

Double post, but worth it...

What the...that's the definition of "ballsy".

Ladies and Gents, I think we've found a winner.

Seriously, I had to double-take at the video's length. If I'm lucky it will finish loading for me tomorrow.

Since I have such a big post, I'll add something to this. Can't find it on youtube, and while I don't think I could classify it as "unbelievable", especially after that kart vid, it's certainly impressive how calm he was to Patterson.

@Dwight:

Come on man, you have to give Ken Block some credit for trying in the WRC.:)

Even if he is not great, I bet he's having fun doing it.

I wasn't knocking him. I just said that I thought "every single video is better driving than the original Block one posted."

Of course he's having fun, and I respect him for trying to at least do something more, uh, for lack of a better word, "meaningful". My biggest problem with Block is the bro-culture most of his driving is related too. And flat-brimmed hats. Those are stupid. :grumpy:

What's wrong with bromance, bro?:sly:

And yeah, the flat-brimmed hats needs to be dropped.

Anyway, that lap Hakkinen did in San Marino was insane. I seriously thought he wouldn't get pole.

I know it's long, but it's great quality footage and is the full race. Footage of that quality from that period is rare.

I know, and it's fantastic that something like that made it to youtube in the first place, and stayed there.

Schumacher at his finest, putting a dog of a Ferrari on pole.

That "dog" was also 7th on the grid qualified by a driver I've never rated particularly highly. Good job by Schumacher but not really as impressive as calling the car a "dog" suggests, it was clearly a top-midfielder if not close to front-running pace.
Not to mention he binned it on the first lap of that race anyway (a wet race too, so much for the "Rain meister" :p). At his finest, eh? :p

That kind of footage is normally only available on the kind of dodgy websites I've unsuccessfully tried to get an invite to for years. Watch it while you can.

No where as good as Ragnotti, but still bloody good. And the 306 Maxi is an awesome car anyway (although almost all F2 cars were).

Well, there is some crazy driving, foot techniques, and crazy people:

The Portugal Rally accident in Sintra was the main cause for ending group B:
