Kobayashi explaining his race at Suzuka last year:

I think this in particular fits the "unbelievable driving" description perfectly - lets put it in perspective, after years of drivers moaning that its too difficult to overtake with these F1 cars we have Kamui here pulling off several overtakes at a section of track where we have rarely seen overtaking the past few years. It was taking the "you can't overtake in F1" and kicking it squarely out the window, I couldn't believe it was happening in front of my very eyes! I'm sure many others felt the same.

Yup I remember a couple of people arguing over weather you can or can't overtake at the hairpin. Debate answered by the only man who could.:D

That was me :p. Someone suggested we might see overtakes there, and I said something along the lines of "don't be silly, we rarely see anything there...its usually at Casio or into turn 1".
I was pretty happy to be proven wrong!

This widened my eyes earlier, especially with the raw sounding V6 aswell. Brands Hatch and the turbo F1s was just pure danger.

@Duffers: In my opinion the perfect series would be those Turbo F1's and all the tracks the BTCC go to. Don't think any drivers would have the courage for it though, and no organization would sanction it.:( Ah well.

That video of the wet driving around Montreal, wow it looks much different now, I don't think there is even a wall of champions in that video. Could just be the wetness blocking me from seeing it though.:p

Lovely 👍 Brands Hatch + ~ 1300hp F1 car with a on/off switch powerband = madness

Every time I watch F1 from this era I'm reminded of how weak sause the current F1/slot cars are :yuck:

I'm willing to bet someone else will optimistically make a move at the hairpin and crash at this years Japanese grand prix.

He seemed to get away with it last year. I'm not sure if you both watched the whole thing but he locked up a couple of time and made contact with the other cars, and Heidfeld practically let him through on the last one. Still good driving and strange how he didn't make a single overtake into casio, the best real overtaking spot on the track. :odd: Guess he likes to get it done as soon as he's near them.👍 Like how he overtook Buemi at Valencia first(and only) chance he got at a strang place to overtake. 👍

Ten years ago we lost Michele Alboreto in an Audi R8 at Lausitz. Only one way to remember him. Just watch the car control when he overtakes Mansell.

#1, my favorite F1 pass of all time.

Gonna stick my neck out here but I've always thought that Mika's pass on Schumacher at Spa was really, really overrated.

Yeah, it was a good move, more from opportunism than anything else, but there was really nothing special about it. It was just outbraking at the end of a long straight, which traditionally is the sort of pass that happens loads in F1 because slipstreaming and outbraking is pretty much a textbook pass, and nothing out of the ordinary. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head but I'm certain Mika made better moves in his career.

I've always thought this one by Mansell on Piquet at Silverstone '87 was better, feigning one direction to send Piquet the wrong direction and then diving down the inside:

Mansell really pulled some crackers actually, at passing he was easily the equal, if not better than Prost and Senna, even if he wasn't as quick outright.

A few of my favorite qualifying performances:

I can't believe what I'm watching. A 150 mph kart? Through a bumpy city course? That has to be inadvisably dangerous, right? Sure, it's incredibly impressive and gutsy, but...

That's insane... As for being dangerous, it's the isle of man. You must be aware of the Motorbike races on the 37 mile course? It's much more dangerous... If they are aware of the risks, they can make it as dangerous as they want. I applaud them. It makes todays racing racing drivers look far less heroic.

Double post, but worth it...

I have that on my phone, my dad used to know some people to raced karts in teh isle of man.(maggie bell and her brother).

In 1.5 years I would be able to race in that, I suggested switching to 250gearbox when I'm 16 (thats what karts there in this vid), however his answer was in immediate no. :(

Jesus. Don't they at least put hay bales on the sides of the road?

At 150mph they don't do much. And also remember there are no seatbelts so it may slow the kart down but not nessasarily you.

Somebody needs to get video of Tom Boardman from the start of Race 2 of todays BTCC at Thruxton.

The superkart thing is just the craziest thing ever I think. But these are almost as crazy!
