Oil change..... That 6HP gain got me in the mid 5s with out a line change 👍
Had sectors for a 5.1 or 4.9 when I changed my line.
I think when I break-in the car to the full HP I should be good for 4.7-8s. I'm sill doing high-mid 33s in sector 1.

I'll keep it in mind. If I become scheduled on shift I wouldn't be able to be on the PS3 any earlier than 4:45EST. Hopefully I'll have the shift off. I'll register up as 50%. A good lengthy race would be great for me to learn the car a bit.

When do you find out about your shifts? Right now sign ups are tentative but a week before the event we will want to know who is and isn't available. Maybe we can set up an alternates list for those that can't commit and they can fill in if someone has a last minute conflict.

The reason we need to know is we want equal (or as close as possible) number of drivers per team. Since the WRS team has more signed up they are going to run a quali race earlier to see who advances to the event in the 28th.

There are at least three of us that could run for either team (Dan, Gravitron and I) and we will probably all run for team Orca to even out the numbers and allow more to take part.

We will have all the details worked out by Jan 14.

Hey guys, sorry for my absence over the last few days but I ended up being much busier over the New Year's weekend than I expected.

All this discussion about phantom lag and inaccurate lap times is disturbing. I clearly remember the issues we had last season but I do recall it was at a time of very high network volume due to Spec 2 and DLC so hopefully we won't experience issues. I have a very strong connection/router but in a lounge we all feed off of each other so that doesn't help much. In our history though we've often had rooms of 12 or more and have had relatively few problems so I hope our luck continues. I have the lounge limited to 14 people, if we experience problems we can try dialing it back to 13 or 12.

WRP is going to be getting a Team ORCA thread together for the WRS vs. ORCA Special Event where we can discuss the race and any related details. He is working out a handicapping system (ballast) that will help even up the field since they have a lot of very fast guys on their team. We're also going to have everyone submit their split times from offline practice so we can determine who needs what handicap. Details of all this should be forthcoming very soon.

Some pre-race notes. The season starts tonight, finally! The first race tonight will be directed by RDAardvark in the ORCA_Champ lounge, qualifying will start at 9pm GMT and the race should start approx 20 minutes after that. The second race will be directed by me and qualifying will start at 8pm EST. If there are fewer than 10 people you will qualify as 1 group for 12 minutes, if there are more than 10 people you will qualify in 2 groups for 8 minutes each. When qualifying starts the race director will reset the track to clear all lap times and then instruct drivers to go to the pits where they will stay until he gives the "track is green" command. Drivers are to stay in the pits until the track is green. After time expires all drivers are to return to the lounge after they finish their current lap. When qualifying is finished the race director will instruct everyone to enter the pits and they must stay there until the race countdown expires.

Each race will be 10 laps, the second race will start immediately after the first race and will use "reverse grid based on last race results". Do not leave the room between races, go directly back to the pits and stay there until the race countdown ends. There are NO pitstops during these races.

A new addition, with the latest update we can now have penalties on during "free race" mode. I'd like to use this option during practice and qualifying so we can ensure everybody is running a clean lap and it will help dictate where the track boundaries are. For the race we will turn penalties OFF so we don't have any ghost car nonsense. This is new and we haven't discussed or practiced it but it should be pretty straightforward, if it turns out to be a problem we will abandon it after Round 1.

See you guys in sunny Florida!

I'm definitely happy that we are back to a new season of racing for the next several weeks!

I'm off work today, so I'm gonna try to run both events. Not sure how many are expected for the 21:00 GMT race, but hopefully we will have a pretty full grid.

^ ABS is allowed. That was written before we were able to ban ABS so I will get that fixed. Thanks for pointing it out. 👍

I'll be there for the 9GMT race. Looking forward to it, hope we have plenty of drivers.

I may also be able to make the 4PM-EST race, if not I'll be there for the 8PM-EST race. Either way, looking forward to it. I Also plan on saving my replay to see if there's any lap time issues.

I should have the lounge open at 8PM GMT, but it's my turn to walk the dog so if I'm late, please feel free to open it. :)

I should have my schedule for that Saturday by Monday, the 23rd January.

I won't be able to participate in the GMT races but I may be able to hop in and spectate the second race if I get home from work in time. A reminder to the NA guys, the UK drivers get first dibs on this race since it's tailored to fit their time zone, but looking at the registration form it seems there isn't much danger of them getting locked out of the room so feel free to hop in and fill up the grid.

Hope you guys have a great race and I'll see the rest of you later this evening.

Gonna be home very late today :(. Hopefully still in time to get a hair of practice, since I need to remember the way back into .04.xx-s and then some. Most likely I'll run mid-pack today.
I suppose penalties=ON in practice before the quali would help people settle. Cause if people skip practice and get a penalty in quali, it will ruin two laps.

There are 8 drivers who've nominated the Tuesday Euro race as their primary night, and a total of 14 who say they can race in this slot. So hopefully we should get a reasonably full grid.

I've cleared my cache, charged my headset and am giving the PS3 a well deserved break for a few hours.

See you on the track tonight!

p.s. Still waiting for Brandon to complain about the flag against his name on the registration list!

So are you pro or con penalties on during practice/qualifying?

.......acts accordingly.

That's the great unknown. If it's at all strange or has weird results we'll ditch it. RDAardvark pointed out that changing the penalty setting kicks everyone off track so there's a small worry that this would interfere with lap times. But in my experience changing things like grip/slipstream/penalties only clears cars from the track and doesn't reset any times. Only changing the actual track clears the times so I don't think this will be an issue. He's going to test it out and let me know the results. If it does interfere with the lap times then we'll abandon it right away.

I think it could be a nice addition though. First off we would know that all qualifying times are valid and clean. Secondly, there's often debate about what defines the track boundary so if everybody practices with penalties ON they will learn the proper way around the track before the race starts. 👍

I am in the room now with penalties on running some laps if anyone wants to join. It doesn't seem to make a bit of difference to my line....

I suppose we'll know this for sure by NA race today

Perhaps before that, I've sent RDA on a task to test it and see what the results are. Hopefully he'll have an answer before he starts the GMT race, if it does screw with the times then he'll run practice/qualifying with penalties OFF.

I didn't think it would have too big of an effect on the driving line, that could be a good or bad thing. If it's going to make everyone learn new driving lines than what they've been practicing then we should probably ditch this plan right away.

It hasn't affected my lap times in the 3 laps I ran a moment ago.

It definitely shouldn't affect anyone's line or lap times. If it does, you were somewhere way off in the weeds. It seems to me that it would work well for qualifying for this track. I agree that during the race it might make a mess of things, with innocent people caught up in traffic getting penalties and whatnot.

Edit: I'll be in the room for another 20 minutes or so for some laps.

I think penalties on for qualifying and off for the race is a *great* idea. With real grip reduction you take a real chance with your race if you try to cut the bus stop during race, plus there is the replay to penalize repeat or egregious offenders. With a quali you only blow one lap and no replay to watch you (unless you do group quali and have people observe). I know everyone here is honest, but if you are going for a gold lap and cut a little and go dirty it should be thrown out even if it wasn't intentional. Anxious to see the results from RDA as this is something I'll use in the WRS-Online Events series for tracks like DRC if it works.

Brandon -- did you decide to run the sign up sheet system for each slot or is it just first come first serve and the host will kick people if it gets full and it's not their primary slot. Seems like a tough spot to put the host in. Why not do the quick sign up reply system for the slots and work it out on the thread prior?

I won't be racing today, but hope to race Friday and maybe Saturday.

Good luck to those who do. 👍

Before you leave - reset it to penalties=off, watch race, and see if your fastest lap is still listed.

P.S. @IforceV8 reading the thread: register already, m'kay? ;)

@ Brandon - I plan on attending either the 4PM or 8PM's race, depending on if I can make it to the 4PM race. 8PM is my primary time. How should I fill out the form above correctly to show that? I will not know if I'm able to make it to the 4PM race until just before race time. I also feel I'm over thinking this haha.

Only ran a few laps never ran an actual race, so there was no replay to check.

Although when I ran a 2'04.180 in the 3 lap stint I did when I entered the room didn't show up to RD and all he saw were the lap times of the ones I ran while he was in the room. I did back out into the lobby between my first session and when RD arrived, but I did not change any of the room settings. Also, the other evening I noticed that if I backed out into the lobby and went into 'Watch Race' it would still show my standings with the others that were still on the track, even though I was only spectating. Today when I backed out and went into 'Watch Race' it only showed RD, who was still in the track, and I wasn't listed in the standings. On my screen it still showed the fastest lap as 2'04.1, but RD was showing a 2'04.7 from the last few laps I ran while he was in the room.

We did start a race to see if the grid order would be correct, and it was with just the two of us there. I would say to just keep a watch on the grid orders and for everyone to know where you're supposed to be, and if you aren't there then say something. From there all we can do is hope for the best.

^ Clean up your post Owens!

You can put your name down for both, maybe put "tentative" after the 4pm race so RDA knows you're a "maybe". We don't expect the room to be full so there should be room for you if you can make it. And, as always, you're free to run in the 8pm race too. 👍

RD's in the :04's now?? Dammit!!

I always record the qualifying results and it pretty much always works fine so hopefully we shouldn't have any issues with that. Not sure why RD couldn't see your lap times after he entered the room, that's bizarre but I think it's probably just a hiccup and not something that's going to have any effect on our race. The live timing monitor has always shown weird info, it's better now but still weird.

^ copy mine into your post, I think I put everyone in there.
I'll copy what I said at the top of my sign-up post, since everyone will miss it, I'm sure:

These sign-up sheets, while useful, crowd out everything else in the thread. We should think of a better way. Maybe a google spreadsheet that anyone can view and a form to register?

That's my opinion too and why I've never used them, they really create a mess. There are only 8 Primary's for the early race and 9 for the late race so there's plenty of room for extra's. The late race won't be an issue but we want to make sure the UK guys get priority to the early race since it's likely the only time they can race. RDAardvark has a big stick he can use to chase people out if they have a U.S. or Canadian flag by their name. :)

It's too late in the day to start anything new now (tis dinner time here), but I'll see what I can knock up tomorrow.
