Kazunori Yamauchi and his guys at Polyphony Digital Inc messed up good this time. I know not everyone is with me, but many are. 800 cars without interior, as in seats, gear lever, dashboard, steeringwheel and most importantly, cockpit view, is a big let down.

Now, why did they even bother making 1000 cars when only 20% are bonified. They would've easily had time to make another 200 premium cars in addition to the already excisting 200 if they never spent time on the 800 standard cars (which I think the majority, including me, will never drive) in the first place.

Why are they so obsessed by amount of cars? Now maybe you're saying "Because it's what Gran Turismo is about! To be able to choose between über slow cars no one has ever heard of and super cars that you'll never afford in real life". Well, I don't care because it's plain stupid if they can't make them all equally good, which they obviously couldn't. Besides, the slow car fans would still be satisfied as it appears cars such as the Suzuki Cappuccino and Suzuki Swift are premium. 400 cars, or even 300, hell if we didn't know there was gonna be more, even 200 would be enough!

What do you guys think? 1000 cars of which 20% are premium, or half as many of which 100% could be premium?

I'm failing to see why this is such a huge issue.

I don't know. Maybe they wanted a thousand cars to improve the quality of the gamepay. Maybe they wanted that range and diversity that is common to all GT games. And maybe the coud only render 200 cockpits because a) they pushed and found the limits of the PS3 in doing so and b) to render all 1000 would delay the game for another five years.

Be happy that you're getting 200 at all - Polyphony could easily have decided "No, since we can't have 1000 cockpits, we won't have any at all" and cut it from the game. Be thankful that you're getting 200 at all.

You missed my point.

Instead of spending time on the standard models they could've spent time on giving us more premium cars, so we would have had maybe 400 instead of only 200.

i totally agree and understand your point. but come on be happy with what weve got is it to much to ask?

GT4 was great fun without it. GT5 will be just as good. PD doesn't owe you anything

Just wait for DLC or updates that will add cockpit+interior detail views in all cars.

-detailed interior means the engine so the hood can be damaged and fly away and we see the engine (SUBARU WRC VIDEO)

-interior is always mentioned in a sentence as being modeled along with undercarriage in premium cars.

-according to some people reasoning, a 95 cappucino has a cockpit view so it's a premium car...

-you don't accomodate no life making reverse light and dynamic crowds rather than cockpit views for the general public and a very strong argument to those people.

At this point in time I'm not for anything that will hold the game up any longer.

We can lobby to DLC the cockpit views for standard cars later.

Why? GT's appeal comes from a wide range of cars. To lower the number available would just demote the game to being on-par with Forza.

This would be preferable.

It's not like they can't pump out patches and free DLC to keep the number of Premium cars rising, 200 isn't going to be the final number.

I totally agree with you strittan. It's a complete joke.
I have no faith in the engine sounds for these 800 standard cars.
PD like to innovate. Well they have certainly done that.
Their the first company to put two seperate divisions of car into a game.

This day and age the premium models should be known as standard.
The standard models should be known as substandard.

holy crap after all this great news people are still whining...

if there were only 400 cars, then people would whine because GT4 had more cars... I miss this car, I miss that car bla bla bla... now they included all cars and it´s not enough...

I don't think I've driven 200 different cars for more than a couple of laps if I total up every driving game I've ever played!

Personally I'm only interested in premium cars as I want the detail perfection these provide.

In time every car of significance from previous GT's will be re-modelled as a premium car.

Can I just point out, Gran Turismo 3 had less cars than Gran Turismo 2, 650 down to 150. They then went to over 700 with GT4...

Now, did that make GT3 a worse game? Fair enough, it wasn't in development as long as GT5, but, the fact is, development on a new console takes time.

GT5 will set up GT for the future, be it through patches or the inevitable GT6, 200 is disappointing, but not game breaking.

Ok, so the standard cars have finally been shown and they're simply GT4 models. Surprisingly I'm actually not bothered, because I'll never bother to even look their way by the time I have the game.

I'll stick to the premium cars, and I think everyone else will as well. Hopefully, we will not be able to mix the two in online races, because that would just look funny.

Also, it says OVER 200 premium cars, and the comfirmed count on this forum is around 150 so there are still around 50 premium cars to be revealed! 👍

I just hope the tracks are good. If not i guess the good old time trial around The Nurbergring will have to do. Oh and top gear test track will be fun.

1 thing i do hope is that they have the licences.

I'll say it again - my belief is that the premium ones will have every little detail of the interior modeled, working instruments, and interior damage. The standard ones will not have interior damage, will not have all the instruments working - probably only speedo and rev-counter, if anything) and will not have a massive amount of detail - but it will still be there. KY wouldn't want anything else.

Uhm... lol?

Why is this such a major issue? It isn't as if the 'standard' cars will look bad... they won't. The 'standard' cars will look like GT5 cars, the only difference being that they won't have cockpits. I'm fine with it, afterall, we do NOT want PD delaying the game to please spoilt people, the same people who complained about the lack of damage in GT4 and are now complaining about GT5's damage "not being good enough". They also didn't 'waste' time modeling 'standard' cars, they are higher-detailed GT4 carryovers.

The time has been spent on the rest of the game to make it even better. Some of you lot are crying over nothing. The 'standard' cars will still look good, so stop throwing a tantrum. Be happy with what we've got.

Most of us are still in the denial state. Just give them some time.:sly:
But honestly I hope this is all just a big misunderstanding.

Gamescom - KY - "Got you! 1000 premium cars!"

Gotta happen!

I was just hanging in chat and LawrenceWest put it well: It's like GT3 but with all the cars from GT2 ported over. This is just the start. We'll be enjoying this game from november onwards and with time thru DLC other cars will be join the premium roster.
