Do you pass there if you're only side by side or even have to dive bomb it, or do you stick back until the chicane?

Seen a bit of each over the past few weeks in the Ferrari event, just wondering what you guys think.

I use the T2 timing line (the bridge) as a "commitment line." If I'm on the inside and my nose is ahead of the other car, I'll maintain my line and position, going two wide if I need to (though I hate it -- it's slower for both cars).

If I haven't at least reached the driver's door by that point, I'll back off.

In between -- I play it by ear.

If I'm being passed, or I'm being forced to the outside line, or I back off of a pass attempt, I'll often attempt to pass after the 130R as I can often take a better line through the turn from behind.

Unless I am clearly ahead , I will back off as to not cause any infractions.

If I've got a legit right to do so I'll go for forcing the side by side entry. Not that I feel particularly comfortable with it, I just wanna learn how to get through those situations and how to put as much pressure on the other guy as possible. To be honest situations like that sound like the most fun in a race to me, provided nobody ends up in the wall. :)

I voted for depends. As vaxen said, i too use the T2 line as a guide. If I'm side by side or at least very close to it by then, then ill go for the pass. If not ill back off & follow the car through 130R to set myself up for a pass at the final chicane. Have made passes on both the inside & on the outside through 130R & when its done right, it feels great.

I am all about putting pressure, the more pressure you put, he will make a mistake. If I see I have room to make a clean pass, I will go for it. No doubt.

yes of course, even if going on the outside just like alonso did once!! (in my dreams, i wish i had those skills, really many times i think of it before doing it)

Maybe if I am racing against a fellow gtp member I may try it (with the knowledge they won't shunt me) but I usually just back off and will try get a better run out of the chicane instead.

👍 yeah i agree. If your nose is ahead keep the lead. Though all will be fixed
with the damage update.

Well I assume 130R is teh high speed lefty on the back straight of Suzuka. If my car's nose is in front of the other car's nose and I'm on the inside line I'll take a crack, otherwise I brake, pull in behind and get a good run on the corner to make an attack at the chicane which has paid off many times as you quite often find people braking extra early for the chicane.

Depends, on the car infront, thus their breaking point, speed, and how much i trust them! I often lay back and get the run if none of these make the move safe. No silly dives either.

+1:tup:

I'm going for depends. Every part of the track is a possible overtaking spot. All depends on what the driver in front does.

I'm generally in the Lotus, so more often than not I've already been passed on that straight leading into it. And there's virtually no way I can get into a passing position. So I always yield the way and wait for after the turn to pass under braking into Casio. But, again, I'm in the Lotus, so not like I have any other choices at 130R.

Absolutely.

In reality there are only 2 sensible passing places at Suzuka if you're following a well driven car that's not making any mistakes... in to turn 1 and in to 130r. Overtaking anywhere is possible, but it requires you to have a faster car or the other driver to make a mistake. Under normal circumstances I'd rather be fully past and back on to the racing line before the corner, but I'll still make the pass if I'm fully alongside before the braking zone and I trust the other driver.

I will try it with anyone that i come across, it's all about testing your own skills as well as other's. But it youre like me and are just going to drive like Lewis Hamilton then no one is going to pass me on the outside or the inside.

If I'm on the inside & it's side-by-side, I'll always make sure I take the corner sensibly enough to leave room on the exit for the other car. If I drop behind in the process, so be it - just set yourself up for a run down the straight by being faster out of casino.

In close 700PP races the 111R will normally be overtaken in that area, but I maintain 148 to 150 mph through 130r, thereby regaining the advantage as we approach the chicane.

I tend to stay behind people through 130r and hope the pressure will cause them to make a mistake at the chicane failing that ill use their slip stream to get past them on the main straight,
Patience is everything :)

I'll pass anywhere I see an opportunity. R130 is no exception. It's a faster corner, tho, so I'd say a bit more care is usually involved. I don't pass as often there as I do on the exit of spoon or out of casio and down the pit straight.

One of my favourite places to pass mainly inside line but always very easy to defend if you know what your doing.

It really depends on the situation. In reality 130R is a fair place to pass, as has been seen in many racing series for years now (F1, JGTC, Super Taikyu, etc.). In GT5P I really don't see much point in passing at 130R though unless the door is wide open, or maybe sometimes on the last lap going for P1 if you can pull the pass off cleanly. Even then I rather outbrake the person going into Casio and take the line that puts me at an advantage coming in and out of Casio. The drafting is so exaggerated in GT5P you're really just better off waiting till the main straight where you can easily get a run and outbrake the person into T1, which is totally fair, and one of the best spots to make your pass on the track IMO. If you pass a car with a similar pace as you at 130R, you'll likely just end up getting repassed on the main straight again... so what's the point really? Another thing. If you and another driver are duking it out with continual swapping of positions, there is no reason to be passing at 130R lap after lap, as you are simply just slowing yourselfs down while allowing the field to catch up.
