While I agree, technically... and we've seen some instances where Team Orders were attempted or successfully carried out (I seem to remember one occassion between Kimi and Felipe in the past... someone help?)

I mentioned it before. China 2008

Raikkonen just said that he let Massa through.

Also there was Brazil 2007 in reverse for the championship.


Fans seems to have a cutoff in terms of championship progression as to when team orders can be used.
They should make a new rule so that you can only have team orders in the last 3 races, so the FIA don't
seem so inconsistent.

I just think team orders shouldn't be banned altogether.

I agree either that or take the drivers championship away and only do the team one. Think about it, one diver per team would mean that if the driver won so would the team. That would take away team orders. If there was no drivers championship massa could have won that race with alonso in second, ferrari would have maximum points and nobody would bicker because it would not matter which driver took the win.

But then again that would take away from the excitement wouldn't it.

Not all fans. I didn't like it when Ferrari did that, either. I actually like that Button and Hamilton have sometimes fought for position... I like it when Webber and Vettel trade paint... team-mate rivalry makes for better viewing.

You can't really keep a team from trying to set the outcome of the race... but there are much better ways to do it (creative pit strategy) than with an obvious overtake.

Team orders are about a step away from professional wrestling. :dopey:

Seems Bernie is in favour of teams being able to run their cars as they wish...

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone believes the rule banning team orders should be scrapped, saying: "As far as I'm concerned a team is a team and they should run it whichever way they want to run it.'"

And Bernie usually gets what he wants ;)
 
Now I'm throughly convinced Bernie is intent on destroying any entertainment from F1...

I think it is blatantly obvious that Ferrari breach the sporting regulations. Since team order is banned from F1. Everyone knows what happened and IMHO they should reserve their position or take all the points from drivers and team from German GP 👎

Also regrading Kimi and Felipe case. It must be noted that in Brazil 2007 Felipe had come to his 2nd pits a lap before schedule and Kimi had 3 flying in laps for his stop as he had more fuel that was enough for him to just take the lead.

In 2008 Chinese GP Kimi after his 2nd stop was driving slowly because he knew he was not going to catch Hamilton and since he was out of WC 2nd or 3rd does not matter for him so it was straight forward decision. However what happened yesterday was just wrong.

One driver per team is NEVER going to happen. It's quite straightforward really because if one driver per team was the case, nobody would be able to gauge a driver's ability. It could be the car making them look good, or the driver making the car look good. Driver's always need something to be compared to, and the best way of comparing them is to their team-mate.
 
One driver per team used to happen all the time up until around 1980. they were mainly new teams just starting out though, or ones who had lost a driver.

I'm not surprised, I would have the same look too. I don't see Massa staying at Ferrari after this season if he gets a chance to get out of his contract.

I don't think Massa is going anywhere. I just think he should make a pack with Alonso saying they should just race each other but promise not to take each other out. As with Alonso I think I would not feel like a real world champion if I knew that my teamate just let me win because of team orders or any other reason other than actually racing for real. Specially if it would be more than one time. It just would feel right for me.
 
Not going to happen. Massa is on a #2 contract.

We think Vettel is on a ghost #1 contract where he is told he is favoured but Webber isnt. I hope not though, I'd like to think Mclaren and RBR let their drivers fight fairly.

You're spending 40 million Euros with one driver, and 8 million Euros with the other. The priority is evident - no questions about it. The investment is to make money out of the 40 million Euros driver, and 8 million Euros driver is a functional tool to attain that objective. You're thinking without understanding the mechanics that enable F1 to exist.

So... you just didn't understand how it works. It's much bigger than one race or another - and immensely bigger than thinking about Massa being or not being in fight for championship. :???:

I don't know if they have clauses in the contracts to invert the situation in case this happens, but I don't think so because the plan is for that NOT to happen.

The team relied on Massa to slow down carefully and let Alonso pass without so much attention. But he did it in that way because he got pissed off, he didn't like to lose the race like that. So I believe that Massa's car will not be as fast as Alonso's car anymore from now on... like Red Bull will probably do (is doing) with Webber after Silverstone. This is a very common strategy to solve these contractual things in F1. McLaren doesn't need at the moment because they had some fights with Button and put him in his place behind Hamilton, but in every case the team has this resort. There are so many things to be done... you slow the car down 0.3 - 0.4 seconds per lap with small electronic data, and that's it. The driver can hardly notice it.

I think in the early races of the season when Alonso was behind Massa he didn't (couldn't) pass because he was afraid of taking both Ferrari's out. And we all know how Ferrari would be with unobedient drivers (think Gilles Villeneuve, Mika Salo even Rubens Barichello).

Could, but won't. August is only a couple of days away ;).

The best we can hope for is that Ferrari lose their points and/or classification from the race. But the FIA didn't do that for Singapore 2008 and this is far less serious.
I fully expect a further fine (ideally similar to the Austria 2002 fine, perhaps increase it because Ferrari have not learnt their lesson).

I doubt Ferrari would ever be banned from the sport unless they did something really ludicrously stupid and it couldn't be pinned on one man. And there is always a fall guy.
I don't think banning them is justified anyway, they are not the only team to continue to employ team orders after 2002.
