To be honest I doubt the new rule is going to hurt Red Bull more then the other teams, and even so it might close the gap by one tenth of a second.:(

However I am hopeful that the 3 slow teams can get close to the others.:)

Red Bull has already shown that the engine mapping isn't what gave them so much time in qualifying. I think they're still going to have speed in buckets.

I hope so, although as a Vettel fan, I kind of want to see the playing field levelled to finally shut up the doubters once and for all.

It's not overgrown. The track was torn up.

The old OstKurve :( :

What are the odds of a wet race this weekend?

^ :( I'm too young to have seen Formula 1 race on that version on the circuit, but I have raced it many times in games such as F1 racing championship 1999 and Sportscar GT. It had so much character, the new one is just another Tilke bore-o-drome.

As for the weather, well, its the UK, so I'd say 50/50 chance. The forecast is available on F1.com 's homepage: http://www.formula1.com/default.html

I read now that the Bridge complex has been permanently decommissioned too, which is a great pity. I must be an old fuddyduddy. Like Hockenheim after they butchered it up, to me this isnt 'Silverstone' anymore.
Bridge is like Eau Rouge: it might be a classic corner, but it's been neutered by aerodynamics. Eau Rouge earned its reputation because the driver had to perfectly balance the throttle and the steering through the corners to set a competitive lap time, but the advent of aerodynamics has meant that drivers can now simply take the corner at full throttle. The challenge is gone. It's much the same with Bridge - it was fantastic in the late 1980s, but as the twentieth century drew to a close, aerodynamics meant it became just another corner. And while people might miss Bridge, I don't think too many people will care for the loss of the old Abbey chicane, or the Priory-Brooklannds-Luffield complex that the cars would only ever take in single file. The new configuration has given us two fast corners in the new Abbey and Farm, and created a minor overtaking opportunity going into Farm and again into the new Brooklands.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am inside the circuit. Going to see if I can get round to the pits.

I'm asking whether or not you actually care about the facilities. If Bernie wasn't so obsessed with the facilities, I'd wager that no one else would really care providing they have adequate safety measures and a decent medical centre.

As many British motor tracks tend to be just a bit of tarmac, some portable bogs and some cones, yeah, I think it matters! :D

Seriously though, I think it matters to an extent, F1 is the biggest motorsport in the world and the tracks have to reflect that. Give the teams somewhere nice to work and they'll be happy, give somewhere for sponsors to enjoy a cucumber sandwich and they'll be happy, give somewhere for the fans to eat, defecate (no, you can't use Bradford), sit and most importantly not a single lane access road and they'll be happy.

Given the money involved, good facilities are a must. If that also means the track can get longer deals and thus we secure a British GP for much longer (until 2017/19 isn't it?).

I'm more than happy to go Drag Racing to Santa Pod and get some average but adequate facilities, as it's only £30, but a GP at Silverstone is what 5 or something times that?

Sup guys :sly:

I went to ridiculous measures to get this photo :D

Did indeed. His mechanic took the photo which was very nice of him. He still wouldn't tell me his top gear lap time though! That said he did smile about it so I'm expecting top 3.

As for getting into the circuit itself, I can't say how I got inside, but the rest was looking inconspicuous and knowing where to go. This was on Wellington straight, the gap between the stands was good access to the marshall's area where there was no fencing. Security was ridiculous but I managed to mostly avoid it. Couldn't help but laugh at all the campers standing at the outside fencing of the perimeter with me strolling around the empty grandstands etc. I waved.

Do we want to know what those measures were? :sly: Great picture, though!

My mate Paul is also at Silverstone this weekend, as a guest of his friend's buddy, Paul Di Resta. Lucky bugger.

They weren't that ridiculous, TM :D Evan, not anymore, I wore my old silverstone college uniform to get my parking space though :sly:

Im hoping to go back next year, you will have to impart some of your knowledge.

Im planning a long trip starting at Nurburgring 24hrs, Goodwood, Silverstone, MotoGP at Sachsenring, to Belgium for Spa, then back to Germany and then finish it off at Turkey. Im pretty sure I can get six weeks off :sly:

Damn, that photo has really tempted me to go to the next Australian grand prix. I would love to see the drivers up close :O

Only top 3? Was expecting 2-tenths of a second faster than Rubens' best time :grumpy:

Jokes aside, here's some photos of Red Bull's build up to the Grand Prix.

Want ot do us F1 fans a favour? Throw some thumbtacks in front of the pole position box, so Vettel gets a puncture from the start and doesn't win. Muahaha :trouble:

That's awesome. Did you give him a "touch" of bad luck? If he doesn't win Sunday we'll know who to blame... Or thank. ;)
