About time Alonso gets his season back on track. Hope this speed from free practice wasn't a one-off. I really want to see Rosberg win too but at least he's up there.

This track is pretty unique so you can't exactly say if Ferrari improved or not. Steel balls probably bring most of the pace.

..or a high downforce and mainly mechanical-grip dependant track layout? Aero-effeciency doesn't matter here, and Red Bull's sectors in slow corners in the past races hasn't been the greatest. So its not hugely surprising that Ferrari and Mercedes could be much faster here.
Its notable that Force India seems to be quite fast here while the Sauber's are struggling (though Kamui admitted he didn't expect their car to be fast as it struggles for mechanical grip).

Of course, doing well here requires some balls. But even here a quick car is helpful.

@SamKeenBass Ferrari looks good in high downforce set up + has been better on softer tyres all season. Looks to be very competitive up front

I'm not getting my hopes up. I still expect Red Bull to come out with their usual Qualifying pace... Well ahead of everyone else.

Followed by Vettel's forefinger waving through the air. :nervous:

RedBull is probably just saving their tires for the final quali. but still hoping Alonso can pull it off.

The Ferrari has always been the best with mechanical grip since last years car. It's not surprising to see them on top at Monaco.

Hoping to see great things from Ferrari this weekend. And of course everyones favourite backmarker, HRT :D

Jesus, Nico. That was crazy. :odd:

So glad he missed that barrier though. That could have been, well, not pretty.

Yup, big crash for Nico, goes right into the wall on tunnel exit, skids across exit at bottom of hill, hits barrier on left.

Strange crash, but lucky indeed that he missed the barrier at the end of the chicane...

Pointless aside: I just dreamed the result to this race...

Schumacher wins...

Nico is one lucky guy. If he had hit that barrier after the chicane he would not have walked away uninjured.

What the hell happened? It looks the front wing was slightly angled toward the ground and he just lost it coming in to the braking zone.

News reporters all up in his personal space; the guy almost had a serious accident - back it up.

That reminds me of 2008 Coulthard's crash during the qualifying session. He did a very good move there, steered the car away from the barrier that ruined Button's weekend in 2003 and later moved his hands away to safety when the car hit the barrier...

Just watching cars exit the tunnel - the bump there seems VERY pronounced, especially as the rear hits it.

Rosberg looked to be bottoming-out more than is usual there, I think that we may see cars having a lot of problems there when they're pushing on full fuel!

Something aired on Schumacher's radio saying ''We think that Nico locked the rears over the bump exiting the tunnel, and we think that he had quite low tyre pressures at the time which probably contributed to the problem.''...

Rear end snapping on a bump due to low tyre pressures. I've heard that somewhere before...

Good to keep it outta the Barrier though... looks like it's only damage on the front right though, and the wing...

He also damaged the rear right suspension due to the rebound of the first impact to the barrier. There could also be some damage to the bottom of the car after he hit one of those bumps... Afterall, it should be fixable and not too serious unlike Heidfeld's case a week ago.

Now Alonso fastest... but he's on Supersoft compared to Vettel's soft tyres.

The Red Bull seems to have a LOT of speed when you stack it up like that!

Why is the SC white? Is it for support series or will that be the 'main' car this weekend?

EDIT: Massa outbrakes into Ste.Devote runoff, no problem rejoining

Liuzzi has huge crash in Ste Devote!
