Anyone else getting tired of everyone comparing Kyle Busch and Richard Petty this week? In my opinion, Kyle isn't anywhere near the winner Petty was, because most of his victories have not been in the Cup series. 👎 He goes for the easy wins, hence why he runs in the Nationwide and Truck series so much. Until he can get to 200 CUP victories, the comparisons should stop.

That's a really narrow view of the situation. The Cup Series was a lot less competitive during Petty's career in terms of the number of cars reasonably capable of winning on a given weekend. Petty was also in superior equipment. Because of those considerations, and because there were so many more Cup races per season in Petty's heyday, each of Kyle's Cup wins should be "weighted" more heavily than each of Petty's. Now, I do agree that Kyle's Nationwide and especially Truck Series wins are significantly less impressive than Petty's Cup victories, because he really is in superior equipment and running against relatively few other competitive cars. For that reason, I agree that it's bogus to declare Kyle's first 100 wins to be equivalently impressive as Petty's. I just think it's significantly less bogus than you do, and I think it's obviously stupid to declare that he's only comparable when he reaches 200 Cup victories. He has much less opportunity because of the shorter schedule, and much more competition to deal with because of tighter regulations and more money in the sport.

Hate it or love it, Kyle Busch's name is going to be scattered all across the NASCAR record books by the end of his career. Many hate him, and that's fine, but to pretend he isn't an extremely skilled driver is just blatant disregard to the facts of life. He's very young and isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so we all might as well get use to hearing his name. He races craftsman & nationwide, because he loves to race as often as possible. Hell, wouldn't you, if you had the chance? I play GT5 like an addict and I don't even get paid to do it. Even outside of the lower classes, Kyle has already proved himself a force to be reckoned with. Loop data shows him as the strongest driver of the 2011 season so far, he's won plenty of races already and is always a potential winner week in and week out. I expect a championship from him within the next 5 years and I doubt it will be his last. Kyle's major downfall in NASCAR will be the lack of teams offering him a seat once his time at Gibbs is up.

That's not what I said.

What I am saying is, his 100 victories does not compare to Petty simply for the fact that only a handful of them are from the Cup series. Yes he's a skilled driver, but until he gets 200 Cup victories, the comparisons should stop. I agree with what Darrell Waltrip was saying the other day, in that there are several other drivers out there that have been more successful than Kyle (like Jeff Gordon) that don't have as many overall victories because they didn't spend as much time in a truck or nationwide series as him.

When Kyle can surpass Gordon in Cup series wins, then he'll get respect from me.

kyle is probably the most skilled driver in the sprint cup series right now. his downfall over the years has been his mental toughness, which will only get better as time goes on

as for the petty and kyle comparisons. i don't think you can compare them because of how different nascar was when petty was racing and how it is now

I respect Kyle for having a ton of racing talent and he does put on an exciting show. However, I despise how he carries himself. He loves to rub his nose in when he's doing good and whines like a baby when something doesn't go his way. More so, it drives me nuts every time the bobble heads on TV says that he's becoming "more mature" only to do something reckless on or off the track.

As for all his "wins" in the Nationwide or Truck Series, I didn't know beating up on lesser drivers with superior equipment was such an accomplishment. It's like being being happy for winning against a field of AI bots in GT5.

As for this week's race at Lousy (yes, I think New Hampshire is terrible), it was actually pretty good. I'm surprised Newman had enough gas to finish while others who pitted later ran out. I'm disappointed that McMurray has reverted to his old unlucky self. I'm not surprised that Johson pulled a Top 5 out of nowhere and I'm mad that Burton finished so poorly after doing so well most of the day.

This basically describes my problem with Kyle. In short, I respect the driver, not the person.

You would have to admit, though, that at least he has a personality. It's not a good one but hey, someone's got to play the role of villain and does it well.

It is an accomplishment if you do it 200 times though...

Today was great until the last few laps. My fantasy picks were 2nd, 4th and 5th until the last lap, and Smith having run in or around the top 10 for most of the day until he ran out of gas with a few laps to go. Overall, glad this race is over, never like this track. 👎

He would still have to win a championship at the Cup level, though. I don't think any number of wins will put him in the elite level without it.

This is one reason why I decided to not do NASCAR fantasy this season. That happened to me far too often in an old Yahoo fantasy league I played in. Made me despise fuel mileage races with a passion.

That, and I did finally win the championship last year so I decided to take a break. :sly:

On Race Hub Newman said he thinks there should be a double feature at Daytona for the July race. He said something like 200miles on the oval and 100 on the road course. I wanna shake his hand. That would be awesome.

Would be great if they ran more road courses but the ones in charge are scared of them.

Well I ordered my ticket on Saturday and received my ticket for the 400 today. I wish they would run the Brickyard 400 on the road course though..... đź’ˇ :D --- Randy ;)

That's a terrible excuse for not adding variety to their season schedule.

Ask North Wilkesboro why that's the case. Seating pretty much has to exceed 100,000 or so to merit a race.

With that kind of outlook, you're better off not even watching it at all.
