Now, can we talk about the van Persie incident this morning?

Absolutely shocking by Ashley Williams. Not just to take a cheap shot like that, but to joke about it in the interview? Awful. He knew what he was doing, and he should be suspended for at least 3 games like Fellaini.

Agree there should be a suspension but I am starting to dislike Fergie more than I did, "ball in the back of the head could have killed him" he over exaggerates all incidents when his team don't get the win he wants.

A suspension fair enough but there's no need for his comments and I agree with Laudrup.
 
Ive got mixed emotions about the Williams incident, it did look malicious but he is our captain so if he says he tried to clear it then i believe him, if he does get some sort of punishment then fair enough...massive over-reaction by Fergie though!
 
I think he meant to do it, but then immediately regretted it. Ferguson's reaction was over dramatic of course, but with the state of players over reacting at the moment, it's not entirely surprising that Ferguson is doing it too. Of course Williams didn't mean to break his neck or anything and Ferguson knows it.

3 game suspension and then move on imo.
 
It was an overreaction by Fergie but it actually could have fractured his skull if it was in just the right place. Also, I didn't watch the interview but I heard someone say that he joked about it? That is what should get him the ban.

The very fact RVP could have even been hurt is null and void when he jumps to his feet and starts a fight. Fracture? Broken neck? Death? Quickly, stick up fences to protect the fans!

I'm fairly sure you couldn't fracture a skull with a football unless it was fired out of an air cannon at four times the recorded fastest kick (formerly David Hirst of Sheffield Wednesday, at over 100mph) into the back of the head of an osteogenesis imperfecta patient.

The osteogenesis part is just the icing on the cake.

You're trying to compare a head butt in a football match, to someone getting hit by a football, in a football match?

I don't know what happened exactly in that encounter, but I guess the head butt was deliberate.

According to this source:

"As play was stopped, Williams kicked the ball and drilled van Persie, causing the striker to fly to his feet in an outrage and nearly incite a fight."

And Williams' own words:

"I kicked the ball in frustration"

It would appear he did it with play already stopped (which explains why he kicked the ball in frustration). It's only a matter of knowing whether he did it on purpose.

Suppose only he knows if he did it on purpose. Still, yellow card for kicking the ball away, up to the ref if he thinks it was on purpose and if he needs to take further action.

Or watch the footage, see that there's a fraction of a second between the referee bringing the whistle to his mouth and Williams hitting the ball? And then think, what exactly is a central defender going to do with the ball in that position? Okay, it's swansea, but even Williams isn't going dribble the ball out.

You can argue Williams accepted it was a free kick before the whistle (it was quite obvious) but play hadn't stopped.


And I'll just leave this here while we discuss life threatening injuries from rogue footballs.

So we've got some cracking Boxing Day matches tomorrow to close out the 1st half of the season. Not sure why they don't advertise a bunch of boxing fights on the day instead.

It's the malice that counts. So much as touching a players face is a straight red these days. I argue that this is worse, if he intended to do it, which no one knows for certain except the man himself.

Yes, a football kicked in closed play at an opponents face with the intention of causing distress is on the same scale. Of course, if he didn't mean to do it and it was a genuine accident then there's no issue, although the majority of mistimed slide tackles probably weren't made with the intention of causing harm, yet they are deemed so. But, since the FA have deemed it not intentional, I'l leave it there and give him the benefit of the doubt.

Still, getting hit in the head by a ball hurts.

This, I'm a Utd Supporter and should do the typical thing and support the team till death but the FA have the final say. They said it was unintentional, so as far as I'm concerned it was unintentional. Case closed for me.

Can't say I've ever seen a goalkeeper have the ball kicked at him forcefully in a dead ball situation once in the ten years I've been watching football. Link?

I hope United run over Newcastle like Chelsea did with Villa on Sunday.

United need a good result after the disappointing draw against Swansea.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious :)

Hoping that Chelsea beat Norwich today. And with the way Newcastles away record has been this season, they will probably lose at Trafford. Would be nice to see them get a point against Man U though.
 
Should be a hatful of goals today, Boxing day normally serves up a goalfest!
