Alonso now 10th. Probably going to be a moot point on whether the car will make the pits before Q3.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that when you stop on track in Qualifying, you can't go out again regardless of whether or not the car makes it back.

Just joined at the beginning of Q2. The back end of that Ferrari is all over the place and now both cars out. Some uncomfortable meetings coming up in Maranello...

Nice to see Mercedes looking so strong - jury's out over their race pace though.

Pretty sure Lewis did it last year at Nürburgring?

RE: Alonso... they might possibly have been able to put the car back out... but now it doesn't matter. The argument, in this case, is the car didn't die. It just got stuck in the kitty litter. Which means it was alive on track, just stuck due to reasons beyond their control, which means that they should possibly get another chance if they get back to the pits in time.

Still don't matter no mo'.

Red Bull sandbagging?

Thinking about it... it's possible they aren't... There's no point in exposing Mark Webber to possible relegation to hide some pace. Given the difference between Webber and Vettel, knowing the Vettel can sometimes squeeze a little more pace out of the car on a qualifier, this might be the ultimate pace for RBR.

Might be.

Still... it ain't over till Q3 is done.

Nasty for Raikkonen, at least he has plenty of tyres for tomorrow, the same for Alonso and Massa. Shame about Senna though. :(

Well let's hope that Ferrari will get the needed upgrades, what GP will the major upgrades come to Bahrain now? I only ask since Turkey is no more.

Is it possible that they are just driving to target times to not use their soft tyres too much? But then again, Maldonado was able to sneak in between Vettel and Webber... We'll see soon enough!

I'm not surprised at all that Hulkenburg and Maldonado are humiliating their teammates (early going). It just shows how good Barrichello still is. No shame in being beaten by the Brazilian, both Hulk and Pastor are showing their potential now.

It would be hard to drive to a target time that's only two tenths off relegation, in Mark's case. Remember... they don't know the other teams' ultimate pace. No more than we do. Which means that they can take a chance on a few tenths off session fastest, but not nearly a whole second...

First hero lap of the session. Hamilton at 1:24.9 on fresh tires. Everyone else on used softs.

Looks like almost everyone (except Hamilton) will do only one run on fresh tires.

Webber first for his single lap qualifier. 5/10ths off Hamilton at split... 1:25.6... too slow.

Still a fast lap though, all things considered. Might just hold up as the pole time.

Yup. Given Webber-Vettel differences... Vettel might just come in at 1:25 flat... who knows what the Mercs will do... Nico already 4/10ths down due to a mistake.

Red Bull look 4th best. Can't help but think Hamilton might be hitting something of a peak here...

...now what if Raikkonen was in Q3?

I don't know if Vettel has blown it... but that's it.

Here in Australia, McLaren rule, Lotus come close, Mercedes are a bit off, and Red Bull are so far back, it's painful.

Button reports he had a little twitch or something... means he was very, very close to Lewis's pace. Schumacher very good, but I can't help but think that if Rosberg hadn't made that mistake, he could have been third...

I wonder if Raikkonen just isn't acclimated to the Lotus yet. Grosjean has been consistently fast with his laptimes.

This season is going to be very interesting.

Vettel is 6th! Schumi is 4th! Grosjean is 3rd! Hamilton takes pole! Good start to the season!
