No KERS for Red Bull then... wonder if they'll have it functional tomorrow? This is looking great, competitive among a number of drivers at the top. McLaren looks strong though.

If they don't have KERS tomorrow, they're screwed.

This is looking very interesting. I think this could be the most exciting season for a bit. Red Bull struggling, McLaren and Mercedes looking strong, maybe Lotus joining in. It's gonna be a good one. Lewis looks quick too, hopefully a battle between him and Jenson.

I was thinking Redbull weren't going to be as dominant, but Vettel's supremacy would take them over the line and get pole.
Guess not.

Don't forget Ferrari being beyond horrible this year.

Guess not.

Maybe Di Resta's words weren't so false

Despite a McLaren lock-out I think it will still be an unpredictable race. I at least want Webber on the podium :D

Ricciardo in the top ten as well. Not a bad day for the Aussies. 👍

That piece on Webber was pretty good. Nothing I've never heard him say or allude to in a previous piece, though.

When Webber is gone I'll be quite sad, his voice (reason) and attitude are something that set him apart from many.

So, the best looking car on the grid gets pole. Stepped-nose is ugly and slow

Seriously though, go McLaren 👍. And Grosjean, I knew you'd beat the Iceman :)

Interesting how Red Bull will handle their race strategy tomorrow. Almost guaranteed safety car for the race.
Also their top speed on the straights is around 10kph slower than most of the field, and no KERS. They're going to get swamped when DRS activates.

So many stories and dramas in the qualifying session. I think the biggest dissapointment of all is Ferrari. Massa is struggling and Alonso made a rookie mistake all resulted in no Ferrari at all in the top 10. I think what, is this the first time that neither Ferrari has made into Q3?

From the session, I can see as well that Williams is starting to look fast again with Maldonado qualified ahead of Hulkenberg in the Force India. Good news. I'm impressed with Grosjean's performance today. From nowhere he qualified 3rd in a Lotus, this is the time for Grosjean to show that he's a Formula 1 seat worthy.

I'm a little bit dissapointed that both the promising Mercedes didn't managed to stop the McLarens in front but delighted for Hamilton. He deserved it and let's hope for a great, great race tomorrow!

I heard that maybe the Ferrari gets unstable on the beaking, causing it to fishtail onto the grass, causing it to spin. I heard this on TSN, who I believe uses the SKY coverage. I think that's what they said might be a possibilty.

Alonso got to far out there when you look at it. The car looks unstable on corner entry and exit, your explanation doesn't make all that much sense.

He looked like he was adjusting settings on the steering wheel, just as he approached the corner.

Plus having two wheels on the grass in a braking zone. What a numpty.

Someone on the TV said it, but I never say a good enough replay to say for myself. After hearing some of their comments, I'm thinking that SKY might just be rubbish. I think Coulthard said that "weaving doesn't warm up the tires at all, it's just psycological for the driver". According to the F1 2011 video game he's wrong!

What qualifying run!

Now we know that Red Bull is obviously sandbagging and guess what, stepped nose have taken it's toll. I even knew it from the start. That bump will disturb the air.

Biggest surprise Ferrari? Nah, expect that since testing. Grosjean on the other hand, is superb! Hope this will last until the end of the season. Too bad for Kimi though. Medium tyre during crucial run. WTF?

Congratz Lewis on his pole and Mclaren lock-up the front row. I'm happy with Merc. duo too! Especially Schumi. By looking at the time, looks like Caterham will be on with their league. Again.

HRT to race? I would love too since it would a little bit help with their data collecting but i doubt they can race tommorow.

Rain should add to this race!

Very exciting qualifying and many excellent surprises. I was a little disappointed in Sauber though, they looked like they had good pace in Q1 and then barely managed to get a lap together for Kobayashi in Q2. Sad.

The official F1 website is reporting that 'there is talk' that Red Bull and Lotus might still protest about the Mercedes 'F-duct'. Not sure if that's not just going to be a waste of time, certainly at this race.

Putting lateral load on these tyres will warm them up more efficiently than going in a straight line. I bet if Red Bull drivers done the weaving, DC would be of a different opinion.

Yeah, and the worst thing is that all the announcers seem like that.

I hate TSN. If no-one had the rights to show it in Canada, then SPEED wouldn't get blacked out. Their commentators actually understand what's going on, and they seem a lot cooler and it sounds like they're having fun broadcasting the races. And they actually have pre-race coverage, as well as Formula 1 Debrief before every grand prix. Speed and TSN both have commercials which is annoying, but SPEED just does a way better job.

I hope to move to the United States as soon as I'm allowed to. This is why I want to have a succseful career, so that I can watch Speed's coverage of Formula 1 :)

Kubica in Massa out; Anybody?

Everybody. Hopefully Kubica will be back for 2013. If he was at Ferrari, I would actually cheer for them :)

Kubica in Massa out; Anybody?
Considering that Kubica probably won't be ready until much later in the year, I'd say no.

It's especially unfair to judge Massa on one Grand Prix weekend before the race has even taken place. Doubly so, considering that Alonso is struggling with the car.

Now we know that Red Bull is obviously sandbagging

Don't have to sandbag if KERS is out. That said... here's a thought. KERS can be worth some 5/10ths a lap. That still leaves them 2/10ths off McLaren's pace, all else considered. It's likely the top speed differential everyone was harping about in the pracitce sessions was due to KERS.

and guess what, stepped nose have taken it's toll. I even knew it from the start. That bump will disturb the air.

An F1 car has the drag coefficient of a brick. One extra bump will not make it that much less streamlined. And if you do it rught, that bump can be used to shape the air going over the driver and up into the intake over his head. And then there are the strategies of shaping the air at the bump itself, like on the Red Bull and the Mercedes.

Then again... it's probably all down to aesthetics. Prettiest car wins. This may be McLaren's year to shine. :D

About time that the F1 scoring system was based on aesthetics :) 👍
