The GTR is a straight beast, I want one so bad.

Might be but «The dragstrip king is the Porsche, which laid down a time of 10.9 seconds through the quarter mile at 127.4 mph. The "slower" GT-R did the deed in 11.1 seconds at 124.8 mph»

Yup, but with the Porsche has grippier tires.. And with ~70k price difference works for the Nissan.

in the "real world" meaning actual owners not mag tests the 2012/13 GTR has proved to be a 11.0/10.9 sec car all day aswell

Porsche with Sport cup tires and $70k extra, but the GTR still holds its own. Throw sport cup tires and 70k into the GTR and it won't just blow the Porsche away, it will dropkick it off a cliff. I still respect Porsche (specific models), they have some track beasts and can run with the best.

No matter the performance figures, I'd still rather have the Porsche.

I'm the exact opposite here, although I would rather have any other GT-R before it (Preferably a 72' KPGC10 or R33 GT-R V-spec N1). I do like the 911 but I'd just prefer a GT-R.

I wonder how much does a GTR or 911 turbo costs purely on build alone. No dealer mark ups, no fees, no taxes, no nothing.

Because I find it hard to believe that $178,000 is justifiable for what you get: something that can be matched by another for a whole lot less.

You could say the same about a Hyundai Equus and a Rolls Royce Ghost. Some folk just prefer their sports cars to have a Porsche badge rather than a Nissan one on the front.

70k USD is a hefty price for a small plastic badge that originally adorned slightly souped up Beetle..

I guess as a person of number crunching, I'll never pay extra for the badging.

But there are people who buy Pumas over Sketchers.

Well, this might be a strange thought to some folks in here, but... Maybe, there's, dunno, more to a car then how fast it can go around a track? You know, how, for example, Porsche are usually known as driver's cars that actually involve the driver.

Hence, I'd take a GT3RS 4.0 over both the Turbo S and the GT-R.

Any car can involve the driver and be a "driver's car".

My cousin has more fun in his mom's prius when he throws it around over his dad's 3 series. Weird I know.

As for the GT3, it is one cool car, but I won't blame someone for stripping out a regular 911 instead of buying one.:sly:

If I wanted a fast road car I'd buy something like a BAC Mono, Radical, or an Ariel Atom.

If I wanted a fun road car I would buy a RWD 911.

If I wanted a fast car that I would use on the street I wouldn't be spending this much money on one since all that power and grip is unusable in the real world and easily beaten on a track by more focused cars.

I think both these cars are impressive if for nothing more than the fact that they can move such a huge amount of mass so well. When you go to a track, the comforts will do nothing but hurt your times. When you drive on the road the power and grip is useless. I will never buy one. They just seems pointless from a buyer's perspective.

Were I in the market for a car like one of those, I'd just get a new 911. Why? Because they look a million times better.

I think Porsches look like a sporty VW Bug. Some models I like (GT2 and GT3 rs) but where I live Porsche's are a dime a dozen like Toyota Camery's; you don't even bat an eye at them.

That would only matter to someone who wants/needs to be noticed.

My comment was referencing the guy that said Porsche's look "a million times better". Plus the Porsche name would be the car to get if you want to be someone, not a 'Nissan'.

Those in glass houses...

If a Porsche looks like a VW Beetle then a GTR looks like a Sentra or a brick.

Lol. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've never liked the look of Porsche's, but the most recent models have been growing on me. The standard models are too boring for me. And I know most people either love or hate the looks of the GTR, but I will say it's a car that does a lot more justice looking at it in person than in pictures.

I get what you're saying, the GT3 RS is one of the most connected sports cars to the driver, but the GTR doesn't drive itself. I get that it's AWD and has a live computer brain, but that cliche is getting old. Even writers have said the people who say "the GTR has no soul" or "drives itself" obviously have never driven one. I take the traction control off on mine and I get the rear end coming out behind me when I throttle it. And the '12 and '13 GTR have been refined even more in which the driver has more 'connection' with the car. I do think the GT3 RS would be one of the most fun cars to drive, 6 speed manual transmission and RWD in a track built car 👍

Of course you would, you're from Germany! :sly:

I know, I find the latest GTR be an extremely good looking car. And I agree that it looks better in person.

All I'm saying is that the Beetle:911 reference is funny coming from someone who drives a car that's fairly blocky in proportion compared to the more sleek 911.

I think it's just the small compact size and shape of the Porsche that makes me see a sporty VW Bug in it. And I agree the Porsche is more sleek, the GTR has sharp lines that IMO makes it look mean and aggressive.

GTR all day! Has a trunk back seats it's better around a track and it doesn't.look like any other car! Yea neither does the 911 oh wait yea it looks like every other Porsche ever made! They have the most lazy car designer of all the manufactures! Next time you're driving down the road and see a Porsche try to figure out which one it is without looking at the badge!

That's what I got from most reviews and such, at least, yup.

What? You can't? Or is it something special that I can tell a Carrera from a Turbo in 0.2 seconds?

That would only matter to someone who wants/needs to be noticed.

Why else would you be in the market for one of these cars to drive on the street?

Get a Rennsport if you live near a circuit.
