Improved to a 21.053 today. Enough for 703rd. Getting there VERY slowly.

But at least today I was going fast enough in a few sections to actually use the advice of tidgney and oink 👍

Just got further word from a friend that talked to Sony rep's at Racer X during E3 that the US National Finals are going to be in a studio in Times Square.

Should be epic!

People were allowed to watch last year, so I'd think yes.

You could literally stop right now and still make it.
Not when 31st place is approaching the 18 flat mark with 15 days left to go. If anything, reality is starting to kick in.

17.5 may be too conservative a time cut-off.

Ya I ended the night at 831 last night. Since I made my goal of cracking the top 1k I'm now going for the top 500. Never thought id get this far!

I've watched so many tutorial videos its not even funny. oink has a few out there too that are pretty good. The biggest problem I have with the advise soa far is that I finally realized I'm just not going fast enough for some of them to work! :(

I dont exist club fast enough so if I turn in as soon at turn 1 as tidgney I invalidate the lap on inside or slide out to the left way too far.

I've got to get my average mph up before entries on the fast sections...

Yep, same here. And with the "hell week" coming around the corner, I gotta get to the 500 area or lower. But I'm happy I got under the 1k ranks, but it's far from over for me.:lol:

It's tough trying to get out of the Club corners, but it's possible to do, just gotta hit the right lines. I am trying to find new ways to hit the track at different spots and it's making me go nuts! I'll get back to it tomorrow and see what I can do.

And watch Tidgney's video again. 👍

For the past 5 days I've had some sort of mental block of putting together a lap. I was stuck at an 18.397, I finally just beat it and I did absolutely terrible through Copse. Now sitting in 23rd with an 18.011.

I've done a few laps since and I've been up to 4 tenths behind my ghost and I can actually pass it through Copse when I hit it perfect :grumpy: At least I know a mid 17 is definitely possible now.

Well damn, i understeered coming to the finish line, 14th though. That understeer cost me a posible top 10 spot. Everyone's time is getting quicker and closely bunched.

I know I can run high 17's at the moment. Ran a few flat 18's and couple red 17's. Haven't been able to play the last couple days so I've dropped to 29th from 14th I think. Hopefully can lock some clean 17s in since I was able to knock down 3 tenths in about an hour or two before work the other morning. Cut off looks to be that 17.7-.9 I think. We shall see. I'm making sure to get the last day or two off when the academy challenge is ending. Had to work the last two days last year without putting in even one lap and my god was it stressful lol. Luckily I was able to hold a top spot.

Well hit a 2:17.969 but screwed pooch in 1st sector.with a 38.0 usually hit 37.7 and .8's. Never seem to run a good lap when I hit first sector decent. Oh well, not sure if ill actually be able to go to finals this year yet anyways. Only can hope!

Tonight I find myself sitting around my race room counting my 25+ real world racing podium finish trophies, yet, frustrated at why I can't get faster at Gran Turismo. I hate time trials in general, but decided to try very, very hard at improving my virtual driving. Watched the awesome tutorial video, but still can't get a feel for the car, sans tuning. I hate the way Gran Turismo cars handle in their stock form. I love tuning. Let me tune. The 370Z desperately needs a LSD adjustment.

Tonight I am frustrated, but not to the point of giving up. I will keep at it until 7/25 with the goal of virtual self improvement. On Friday, July 26 I will be back in the real car at one of my absolute favorite tracks; Grattan Raceway. One of my best tracks with lots of wins there. So for two weeks my ego will have to step aside. Once the 26th is here, all of my competitors may want to step aside as all of the frustration is going to come out in my right foot on my favorite course. New goal for Grattan... personal best lap time somewhere during the weekend.

Maybe I need to hire one of the GTP fast guys for some virtual driving instruction in trade for an open track day in the Spec Miata?

Think of it this way. You get the chance to race for real. I'd trade my virtual speed to have that chance any day of the week.

True. I wouldn't trade those two things even up. I'm just one of those guys who has to get faster... at everything.

This photo makes me feel better tonight.

Now back to GT Academy telling me how bad my driving is. :)

Lol trust me real world speed does not translate to fast GTA times. It does however give you a massive advantage in Silverstone if you can get over the hump of the GTA TT.

It's hard but you have to essentially master two separate but related skillsets and remember that not everything translates between the two.

Hello everybody! I finally decided to join this site. I'm not new to Gran Turismo, I've been playing them since the first one.

This is my first GT Academy. I've been having a lot of fun and stress at the same time haha. I just did a PB of 2.21:394 (thanks Tidgney for the tutorial) with a DS3. I'm trying to get a Logitech G27 before the contest is over, I know there are at least 2 corners that are down right impossible to be smooth and fast with just a DS3.

Definitely not impossible. You gotta see doodlemonopoly's lap, done witha DS3 and good enough for third best in the US:

Weclome to GTP, glad you decided to join us. Keep pushing, i hope you're able to get a wheel in time. Awesome reason to introduce yourself to the wonderful world of wheel driving.

Well, 2nd place actually without lapierre. :) Z06 and reude closed the gap on me. I'm barely ahead of both of them. :scared:

Forgive me if this has been brought up earlier or in another thread, but I noticed in the #3 global lap replay, 80% of his gear shifts show no (what I assume to be) red clutch Indicators when shifting up. I'm on a g27, every shift I make there is a red bar next to the throttle that flashes red when changing gear, I haven't figured out a way to even use my actual clutch pedal but that's besides the point. From what I've seen on that replay, his gear shifts appear faster and instant and no red clutch indications, while mine, using sequential paddles show what I assume to be an auto/virtual clutch engagement for each shift. Is there some special way to be using the gear box in this demo that allows for clutchless/seamless gear shifts? I'm still adapting to these physics and Havnt turned a lap in any gt franchise since 2011 or used g2"7 pedals, but I'd be rather upset if I found I'm losing those tenths from (what im assumingto be) auto clutch engagement every shift. I suspect it's just a replay thing but if its not, the free tenths-hundredths of lap time would be nice. Could be a different wheel thing but I dunno.

I personally think it's just a replay glitch.

There's no doubt his lap is kick ass, it's just concerning seeing his car appear to change gear significantly faster, almost instantly, while I'm observing my own shifts seeming to use a lift+red bar/clutch engagement inbetween all upshifts. I honestly think its a replay glitch because I have seen similar issues in other games, but seeing most his forward gear shifts to be faster than what I'm doing with paddles concerned me. There are a few shifts I see his clutch indicator but those were short shifts to 3rd. Anyways I was just asking cuz I was worried I was unaware of the "right" way to work the gear box in this demo. I've had this ps3 for like 72 hrs now and just worried I'm out of the loop.

Apparently logic is a hard thing to come by at 4am, nursing my bruised ego. Definitely a replay issue. My replay shifts show no clutch/lift like they do while in game and driving. So yeah, looks like no magic way to upshift

Looks like the fastest way 'round with these physics/car will be up too ninja trail braking.

I seemed to be able to crest into the 17's last night a few times but red of course just on barely going over the curbing. Was about 2 tenths ahead of Ruede108 going into maggots and threw it away into Beckett due to the curb bounce. Any trick on getting through there smoothly? I could run consistent 17s if it wasn't for that section. I ruin it ever time right there.

If you weren't 4 tenths faster than me I'd give you some advice. :sly:
All I can say is that I get my best results when I remember that it lets you take more inside kerb through Maggots-Becketts than anywhere else on the track.
