noob question, are the tires at 100% grip level to start? or do we have to warm them up? for the full lap at silverstone?

Very cool! I'm in Salem actually. And Reude108 (Dan is his name) is actually from Vancouver, WA. We became buds after we ended up on the same flight for finals last year lol. BrianM3 is also from ptown area as well. I think he's 40th right now. Hopefully he can pick it up and qualify again this year. Good luck to you by the way! Maybe we can meet up before GTA ends. Feel free to PM me!

PDX (Beaverton) FTW! I'm in the lowely 150-something-th place  I'd love to meet up and hang out with some locals 👍

Alright, after making a fuss about them screwing up the rules, spending three hours tonight and only running an .18.3xx I have come to the conclusion that the only reason I made it the first year was because not very many people participated. This requires skills that I simply do not have, so I'm bowing out.

I'm satisfied being a top 50 player, but I've never been good at time trials, my skills shine in door to door racing. So with that, good luck to everyone. 👍

My time is 2.23. You're just outside the top thirty, don't give this "bowing out" business.

Discouraging night. I could not hit Sector 1 at all. Finally had something going and exiting Vale, the rear started losing grip. Did everything to save it but it went an inch too wide. Lost an .892 and that was with me fighting the car. :grumpy:

I have faith in you Turbo, I didn't think I was going to do well this year but I managed to get in the top 10 so far. Keep pushing man! 👍

Any news of what ponyboy/stiggy/racerx'12 is doing? I only see his GTP account way down the order, is he using some other one this year?

Quite the opposite for me, I can keep up with a 2:17.9 lap through turn 1 and 2, then when I hit Village, it's all kinds of tire-squealing, gear-shifting, blinking-brakelights madness goin' on

Aw, come on RT, we know you can go faster. You have 18+ days to get a lap. Take your time.

No idea what ponystig's been up to... he did take a crack at racer x in the E3 competition but came up short in the final.

I might try again the last week, but I spent 2 hours chasing your ghost last night to no avail. I lost count of how many times I spun out, cut a corner too much, or red lapped in some other way. It's so frustrating because I can watch the replays of the top times and they look so smooth and slow. (even though they are far from slow) Yet when I load them up I can't match them at all. I've hit my skill level wall I'm afraid.

I think he's pulling a Bryan. Setting a slow time at the start to get a feel for it, then he'll come in the last week and be in the mix. :)

Unbelievable job on the 17.3 you just posted! You are a beast! 👍

Agreed. L/P has always been a beast.

Nice time Étienne!

Thanks guys, but I really think that if I had posted this time at the end of the competition, it would have gone under radar. What I mean is give yourself and everyone else time and I have no doubts many will beat it. It's only been 7 days and already, we see more and more people getting in the 2'17's so I predict the bubble time at the end of the competition to be around 2'17,5. Like last year, 35 guys were spreaded out between 0,288 seconds. It'll be similar this time around.

There is a caveat to that spread. Silverstone is a longer and more difficult track than Motegi East so it's feasible that there will be one or two people that hit that magic lap and hit a 16.7ish in the US while the cut line will be almost a second off.

I think I'm moving to Thailand where I can walk into the top 32

Current entry totals:

17,643 US Region
140,966 Global

Just saw on the gt site that the number of players (assuming this is actually the number of downloads) is up to 743,064. Seems there is a whole mess of people that haven't even tried the qualifier yet.

I watched Tidgney's breakdown today. There were many pearls of wisdom in there. I lose it first at Luffield, then at Becketts. If I can get my head straight in there, I will gain many full seconds. His tips give me new hope of improving my 22.3xx.

Blew a 17.9 this morning :( but at least was able to get a couple 18 flat(ish) laps in. At least made me feel I can run some 17s now.

Just to clear things up, the Let_Canada_In that won last year was me but the one leading this year is Lapierre. Feels great to get the message across without having to put my life on hold again, thanks Etienne!

Hey guys, Nick how are you bud? Long time no talk to lol. Well I'm back in town from VA so we should meet up soon. As for getting us all together lets do it! Hopefully we all qualify for Nationals, that sure would be something!

As for real life experience, ahhh thats a tough one for me to answer, but technically I don't hold an automotive race license of any kind.

Yes, NW group for the win! I've got no time this week to really put up a good time, but starting next week I might be able to dedicate a good chunk of time.

Haha, I can only imagine what you might have meant by that. I haven't had any real experience, but I have gotten to play around with some interesting toys.

Still, overall, that's a pretty good position. Local talent for the win. I dunno when I can make it happen, but we definitely need to all get together.

I apologize for the billion questions, but is anyone active on Forza 4?

I'm glad I decided to actually start posting again - this has to be the friendliest forum on the internet.

^^^ Might want to fix your signature.

You do know it's not Sony's/Nissan's fault right?

Videos are not allowed in signatures, so that's why it didn't work. Unless you just wanted the link?

I'll just admit it: I'm bad at internetting ;)

I just wanted the link, so I clicked on the youtube dealio, assuming that was a control for the signature - however I see now that the option is available as I post this, so I imagine it's actually to embed the video?

dude, you are literally a TENTH from 31st... i'm a tenth behind you and i'm far from giving up, so you really have no excuse to throw in the towel just yet.

just yesterday i was grinding out laps for 5 hours and i couldn't make ANY improvements. my hands were sore, my confidence was low and my focus was nonexistent... I then decided to step away from the game, cracked open a brew and cleared my mind of anything GT academy-related. i came back a while later feeling relaxed and ready, and within an hour I had manged to shave over two tenths :) so if any of you find yourselves hitting that wall hard after a long session, take a break and come back fresh 👍

Embedding in a post is allowed, yeah. Quite different though as it doesn't use the whole link from the video, only the video "code". If you want a link in your signature, click the little earth looking symbol with the chainlink on it, paste the link to the video, click ok, enter the text you want, then click ok again.

Sorry for OT.

Yes we know, everyone knows but it's always a good idea to get good at something before trying to convince someone (or even worse: companies AND governments) to let you be part of it. Seeing this Let_Canada_In name everywhere may convince them to push harder to include us with the U.S.
