Suarez has been banned for 9 international matches and for four months. Why they need both I don't know, also yet again FIFA fail to set an example, although I'm sure they think they have.

Suarez can also appeal it too so it could end up much less.:banghead:
 
Does that mean 9 internationals as well as nothing until 26 Oct? That covers about the first 8 weeks of EPL.

Yes, it wasn't clear at first but it has been clarified now so I edited my post.
 
The way I think it will work is he can't play in Uruguays next nine games, regardless if they are in the next four months or not. And then as @Barra333 says missing the start of the PL season.

What I'm curious about though is if it will stop him being able to train etc as it says 'All footballing activities'.

The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player).

· The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

· The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

· A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

· The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

Probably means he's banned from grounds and training grounds, team practices, tours, etc. Don't think they could stop him training by himself at his house or something. :lol:
 
In case anyone was wondering, the first 3 Champions League matchdays are inside the 4 month window.
 
'All footballing activities' includes administrative activities. So he may be unable to transfer either.

Fifa, who gave the punishment are unsure at the moment and are enquiring if it means that.:ouch:

Typical. :lol: I doubt they can do that either and I suspect they'll be told that by the lawyers.
 
Well, changing the club you play for is mostly administrative, and quite football related, so unless there is a specific exception I would expect that short of tearing up the contract Liverpool have him til at least January.
I can only assume (hope) that Liverpool will be withholding wages for the duration?

I bet he will continue to do the same bs... With this stupid punishments from FIFA.

If anyone else had done this then the severity of the penalty might have been justified. But for Suarez, who has done this at least twice already, it is not nearly enough.

It should make Liverpool think about taking action against him now, however, since he has once again seriously compromised the club in terms of their reputation, their league and CL chances, and they also seriously risk falling foul of their sponsors if they are seen to condone, excuse or ignore Suarez' violence.
 
I expected nothing less than 6 months. But at least they punished him.
 
Will be very interesting to see the Liverpool FC statement, and for giggles, the Uruguayan one.

They stood by him after the racism charge, the first (second) bite and they will do the same here. Liverpool like to think they have morals and constantly wave the Hillsborough card. Yet when Suarez keeps acting up, they turn the other cheek.
 
£66,000 fine. What, literally less than a week's wages?

At least hit them to a magnitude where it hurts. Try fining Suarez £6.6 million and then see if he does it again.
