This is the first SVT product since the 2000 Cobra that I've truly been interested in. I hope they depreciate like all other Mustangs.
The 2000 Cobra R I assume? Yep LOL Granted the SVTs hold a little bit more value.

All those cars I think have 4-2-1 headers. Perhaps the Stang has some kind of weird 180 degree header. A 360 degree header? :boggled:
Would a weird setup after the headers alter the sound like that? Ford Racing had a weird after the mufflers X pipe that was supposed to sound very odd. (I never heard one in person it was a rare part)

I think as you get further from the exhaust ports, the less it has an effect on sound. The single biggest factor is the exhaust manifolds themselves. Even with all other things being equal, a set of long tube, equal length headers equipped on a car without them from the factory will sound wildly, wildly different. Case in point:

Mercedes S600 with catback and stock manifolds. Sounds somewhat like a refined V8 or something. Slightly growly.

Exact same engine with long tube equal length headers:

Sounds like a Pagani Zonda F/R. Crazy.

I've never noticed a difference between manifolds and headers on older engines.
When I went from shorty headers to Long tubes on the Cobra It sounded pretty much the same. Honestly my swap from X pipe to H pipe made more of a difference in sound. (Oh how I regret the swap to this day LOL)

I don't really notice much difference there either. Mufflers make the most difference to my ears.

Go from a log-style unequal length manifold to long tube headers. Massive, massive sound difference even if the rest of the exhaust is the same. It changes completely how the exhaust pulses are merged which totally alters the resonance of the exhaust. I did notice a big change from open headers in my mustang to and H-pipe, but it's because of the same effect. Mufflers and other parts can change the overall volume and tone of the exhaust, but it doesn't have as much of an effect on the harmonics.

Maybe its that way with newer motors. Never heard or felt a difference with the two different 351s we ran.

Actually, that Pantera was almost precisely the sound I was hoping the GT350 would make.

This is absolutely horrid video, but it gives you an idea of what an equal length 8-1 header sounds like on a small block chevy. Answer: Insane.

However, the plumbing is just stupid complicated:

God I love IHRA pro stock. There is something very unnatural/evil about an 800+ cubic inch (13 liters) mountain motors revving to more than 9,000rpm.
You don't see those in NHRA Pro Stock though. We've got a 500 cubic inch rule. A couple of the other classes will run crazy stuff like Pro Mod which is about 40 mph faster than Pro Stock. Apparently our class is running over 10,500 rpm now.

Isn't the race you posted IHRA? At least I thought it was.

Not sure. That track is an IHRA track but those drivers are from the NHRA. The cars sound the same as NHRA Pro Stock so I think its a moot point.

Could it be that one of the prototypes in that nurburgring test video is the 350R ? It seemed to have a bigger chin spoiler...

I'm glad it doesn't have that metallic exhaust sound like an '89 GT.
I like the sound of the foxbody 5.0L.

Saw another '15 on the road this morning, some lady driving it to work. Think it was an ecoboost, but there wasn't any badging on it so couldn't tell if it was that or a V6. Looks good rolling down the road.

Road and Track + Motor Authority are reporting the GT350R is on the way. Expected to be similar to the old Cobra R or recent Boss 302 Laguna Seca as a racier model over the standard GT350.

This week a bit of news has broken via Road and Track, and Motor Authority, that says Ford is gearing up for another debut in Detroit with the the reveal of the GT350R. This would follow suit with the badge’s historic racing legacy, as Shelby built two versions of the car during the 1960s, with the R version being for competition use only.

According to the reports, the R version would be the racier version of the GT350, possibly similar to the Cobra R of over a decade ago, or even the BOSS Laguna Seca of recent memory. The reports indicate that the car could feature better aero, (we’re thinking wing and chin spoiler), as well as more aggressive brakes (carbon ceramic?). There’s also talk of even stickier rubber, than the Michelin Pilot Super Sports that Ford says were created specifically for the GT350.

Highly doubt it. A GT350R will likely follow the some moniker as the Boss 302R.
Figured as much.

I cant wait to see it on the track in different series next year. Any talks of it being in the Daytona 24H next year?
