LM P1 cars have been pushing the definition of 'efficient vision to the rear' for a while, but Audi have now jumped the shark!

LM P1 Tech Regs;

Rear view mirrors

Two rear view mirrors (one each side) must provide an efficient vision to the rear.

The Scrutineers must be assured through a practical demonstration that the driver, seated normally, can clearly see the vehicles following him.
To this end, the driver will be asked to identify letters or figures, 15 cm high and 10 cm wide, displayed at random on boards placed behind the car according to the following instructions :

- Height : Between 40 cm and 100 cm from the ground.
- Width : 2 m one side or the other from the centreline of the car.

- Position : 10 m behind the centreline of the rear axle of the car.

Minimum area : 100 cm2 for each mirror.

They must have a day/night mode. A film may be added on the mirror.

Camera

It is permitted to add cameras on the car and screens inside the cockpit for rear and front/side vision. The screens must have a day/night mode.
The cameras are allowed to protrube over the maximum height of the car at the condition that a specific allowance is given during Homologation of the car.

The purpose of their design cannot be to provide some aerodynamic benefit.

The camera must have a day/night mode.

Last year's model had a rear view camera as well.

Porsche used the low drag aero kit on both cars all year last year, didn't seem to really hinder them regardless of the circuit, from my point of view they exceeded the level of achievement that I thought they would do,

Audi are tradicionally strong with aerodinamics. I wouldn't be surprised if the low drag setup ends up to be pretty efficient in cornering.

Considering that they were roumored to reach 360 km/h in Monza I would not count on the onering speed.

223MPH! I cant even imagine what is like to do that speed lap after lap!

FIA- please don't slow these cars down. There safe, I promise.

It should be more closer to a road car imo, these waivers should be temporary at most, and

That is no Chicanes though.

Yes but in the last year they reached the same speed on Monza without chicanes as they reached in Lemans. Could be an indicator how fast it will be this year. Toyota/Porsche might even be faster

The Nissan rep at Silverstone said 240MPH is possible at Le Mans!

Oh well. I like those speeds but I fear an accident at this speed (like Davidson vs. Ferrari GTE) will be even more dangerous and also more likely. There would be 100 km/h difference on all these straights between LMP1 and GTE

In an all out sprint configuration yes maybe. Same as it can develop 1500hp but thats been dialled back for reliability purposes.

Remember Group C had 1100hp for Qualifying, and detuned for the race.

And that's also without the hybrid energy being FIA/ACO restricted,

Yeah, current cars can be much faster if unrestricted. That is kinda scary in all honesty...

I believe that Audi debuted it camera system at the back end of 2011 on the 1st gen R18.

I think Corvette were the 1st to run such a system, 2009 perhaps?
With radar yes 2009 was the first year Corvette ran it.

I won't be surprised if the pole time for this years Le Mans will dip below the 3:20 mark.

bloody fast... I've never been able to get below a 3:23 with the R10 from GT5

Best I could manage after two attempts was 3'19.351 with the Peugeot 908

The 'experts' figure pole and qualifying times in the 3:16's and lower. A Toyota engineer said race-pace will need to be "under 3:20"! Records will fall. I think we'll see 1:57's at Spa qualifying.

Those time predictions are near '88-'89 qualifying speeds, but the cars back then had the full Mulsanne for those laptimes.
