And then there's Gordon

:yuck:
They should have ran the rainbow scheme. It would be more fitting here than bristol since throwback is the theme

This weekend is a rare off-weekend for Cup. XFINITY and Trucks are racing this weekend, however; and at two quality road courses. That's right. No ovals for these two series this weekend. XFINITY takes on all 4+ miles of Road America this Saturday, and the Trucks leave the U.S. of A to take on Mosport (or Canadian Tire Motorsports Park). So if you want some NASCAR racing this weekend, get excited for Road America and Mosport.

Of all the throwback schemes I've seen for the Darlington race on September 6, basically the two "Beer Wagons" look the best to me- the #2 car and the #4 car. I love the touches on that car dedicated to Buddy Baker. I still think Jeff Gordon should stick to those rainbow colors like he ran at Bristol. After all, when I was learning about racing and came across Jeff Gordon in 1998 in a Popular Mechanics article, I recall the DuPont Chevrolet in those classic rainbow colors. I'm like... "stick with those colors, dude. They're sweet!" It's much the same way I felt when the SRT Viper program in USCR went with those Oreca colors with the red and the whie stripes. Sometimes, classic is better. And who knows? These pretty throwback cars could get themselves some Darlington stripes once the cars are driven in anger.

The race at Darlington should still be a great one.

Looking forward to those. So much so that I intend on buying Road America AND one of the Xfinity cars on iracing (Kinda stuck between the Camaro and the Mustang)

Somehow I feel like this would have been such a better throwback scheme for Harvick's car...

They were halfway there with the yellow base color and red #4. Also, I love that particular #4 font. Harvick's current one looks too formal and old.

1. I actually have this car somewhere.
2. How ironic would it be that there are two Valvoline cars in the field.
I think this scheme would have been better

It would have worked, but at the same time it's too plain.

Too bad one of the Valvoline cars will most likely be torn to peices, but the other should get plenty of screentime.

Love the #6 and #88's schemes. Wish we had more opertunities to see them.

Would love to see Gordon run a Pepsi throwback scheme like he ran a few years ago I believe...

Ky. Busch should run a throwback Intersate Batteries scheme as well...

Either this...

Or this...

Now there's drivers that have certain sponsors that they can't do throwback schemes I think, like Edwards and Kenseth...

EDIT: The more I look the COT, the more I like it... strange.

Everybody has to remember that sponsors have a select number of races, chosen usually before the season starts. they probably don't want to sell races to others just to run a throwback paint scheme.
This is a 3M race for Gordon. They are not going to give this NBC race to Axalta just so that they can run the rainbow car. Ditto to Mars and Kyle Busch.

So basically, these throwback paint schemes were likely decided well in advance before the season started.

Wow. Some teams are going all-out on this. So many intra-team shoutouts like Cassill's car mimicing the old Ganassi Dodges to jeb Burton's car being a simultaneous shoutout to his father, Bill Davis, and Caterpillar (ironically Newman's sponsor, so dueling Caterpillar cars AND Valvoline cars), and then there's Annett's and Patrick's cars which are either cheating, (Annett), or a clever pun (Danica). Should be an eye candy filled Saturday night

EDIT: The crossteam crosssponsor shoutouts continue. Also, I cannot get used to the sponsorship on this one

The XFINITY Series will race at Road America on Saturday, and the Trucks will race at Mosport on Sunday. If you have no idea on any of these courses, I'll just devote this post to mention both of them.

I first learned of Road America back in 1999 when (then) CART raced at Road America. This track is over four miles long. It has always been a real Grand Prix style race course. Even if the track doesn't look ultra-modern or have fancy enough structures to host a modern Formula 1 Grand Prix, this is still a competitive and challenging race course. You can get up to speed pretty well at Road America, and it isn't as if this course is terribly slow or a lot of stop-and-go racing. It's quite challenging for a stock car around Road America logging laps there. Maybe the coolest part of Road America is trudging up that hill to the Start/Finish line. Surely 800+(?) hp stock cars will have no problem trying to go up that hill and cross the line. So if you never seen Road America, I think you'll enjoy this fine road course in Wisconsin.

Now about Mosport. Most traditional sports types know of a number of American sports who compete in the Toronto area or have Toronto teams. Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsports Park) was a track I learned of playing "Sports Car GT." Prior to Trucks racing this course, I recalled NASCAR's Canadian Tire series race this course and a few other Canadian road courses. And really, I am surprised NASCAR doesn't race this track more often because it completely suits the style of stock cars. I kind of think of Mosport as a Canadian Sonoma Raceway. You have a great-flowing road course with plenty of elevation changes. The real key to me in racing this course is having a solid suspension setup and great handling. You need both to take on both the technical corners and the undulating roads of Mosport.

If you are unfamiliar with Road America and/or Mosport, be sure to look up videos and stuff on these two tracks just to see how each rides and what challenges both tracks provide.

Good luck to all drivers and teams competing this weekend. And according to something I read from a Facebook friend of mine... there MAY be some rain for the race at Road America. So imagine the XFINITY Series drivers breaking out the rain tires in case Mother Nature wants to make Road America a bit wet...
