The hood scoop has ALWAYS been functional on the WRX and STI. As mentioned above, not sure if serious. The new recessed hood scoops look a lot better that some of the older hood scoops. (like my 2004 WRX)
However I still don't like the gold wheels AT ALL. Never have.
Because rally car.

I notice a CVT will be an option (might be JDM only though much like the A-Line is right now). Also, am I reading it right that the Sti will still be a 2.5L? I hope that doesn't mean they are sticking with the 257 in the US. :ouch:
I was seriously interested in the new generation even though it's a sedan and not a hatch. If the only Sti engine is the same EJ257 then they might not have much of my interest at all. :(

Also, it looks like there is a notation saying SI included on CVT models only... I'd love it if they got rid of the Si-drive. 👍

I understand the benefit of a CVT, but I think the WRX would be better suited with a good 6-speed double clutch. I know if they did that I would seriously consider one.

As I understand it, the CVT in the Forester XT is a pretty good unit, and it theory should be near-enough the same thing in the new WRX. I've been having a good time reading everyone complain about it - after all, it's only an option. I remember a time when they offered a horrible automatic, has everyone forgotten that, too?

Don't they still put that ancient 4-speed auto thing in some of their cars.

Just wanted to mention that in about 12 hours they are going to reveal the 2015 impreza wrx on the subaru website as a live feed from the event. I'm actually going to try and catch it. :D

I don't know about the grandpa thing besides the exterior...

Inside and under the hood. 👍
2.0 Turbo.
Flat-bottom steering wheel with better cut-outs. Better looking gauges and from what I saw on the white car in the live stream I think a back-up camera will be an option as well.
Also, can't beat the fact they are bringing a 6 speed manual to the WRX.
Even though I'm a huge fan of my hatch, this might be a trade situation for me when they start showing up on dealership lots. I will definitely be doing a test drive and if the price is right a trade is far more possible than I thought it would have been only a few weeks ago. :O

Btw...

Right in the Needs. :ouch:
Shaping up to be more than I expected everywhere but the exterior appearance.

Edit:
Oh, forgot to mention...
Faster steering ratio and something like carbon coated synchros on first and second gear.

I've already been guaranteed a test drive by the Subie dealer next March. Can't wait for it to be quite frank; aside from the exterior this looks like it'll kick the crap out of SIC EM for dynamics and importantly, tractability and refinement.

I am so dang tempted to trade my 04 WRX in for one of these. I have never purchased a brand new car and I am sure it will be way out of my price range for sure. But sooooooo dang tempting. Love the look. I still think it needs at least some sort of bigger spoiler in the rear. Cant wait to see the STI version. Only complaint right away is the fact it doesn't look like the seats have changed much. Very happy the WRX has a 6 speed. They have needed one for a LONG time. In fact I almost considered the 6 speed conversion for my 04 wrx when the 5 speed tranny went out lately.

Great news because the manual transmissions in these cars are not very strong.

You know, I used to be a RWD snob for a long time (amended to a mere dislike for FWD), but if I had the money, forget the BRZ, I'd take this! Wow.

Woah, looks good to me. I like the new design with the front fascia, it has that modern aggressive WRC look to me. The interior is alright, just wished it had the blue trim like the GDB chassis had, especially for the new STi. Other than that, I'll drive one ASAP, but I'm still getting a 2004-2007 WRX STi or a 2012 STi sedan. But I'll still will get one later down the road.

It looks like a Evo after rear-ending the ugly-bus, but I'm sure the actual car looks better than this teaser presentation.

I think it's not that bad looking. A bit bland and the way that they said how they were seperating the WRX from the Impreza made me think...

Being a member at Nasioc means I've seen this like 5 times already. :indiff:

Truth is, I'm not all that hot on the exterior but the changes to the interior and mechanical bits have me very interested even though I thought it would take a miracle to get me away from my hatch.

I like it.

Sure, the bodywork does not look as tautly packaged as the other WRXs. The flow of the contours is similar to that of many regular, generic mid-size sedans of today. It's kinda a bit more dynamic-looking and coupé-ish; yes, I'd say that the boxiness was part of previous WRXs' appeal - they shouldn't really look so curvaceous. Compared with the older WRXs, this one would be my least favorite. And I can't imagine this as a car being thrashed on a dirt rally course. It doesn't look like it's a suitable background environment, even in photos.

So yes, a lot felt lost.

But it's not boring. Staid, maybe. But not boring. Yes, its face does not have the pugnacious, intimidating feel apparent on previous models. Yet, it still has the big hood scoop, slightly flared wheel arches, and partially protruding sections on the bumpers and side skirts. It's still something that stands out for me, and not in an overly garish way. There's still a hint of that "boyracer" vibe. (sorry, it's just for my lack of a better word, I don't mean that the car looks like a ricer though) It has character similar to that of the previous models, only toned down a bit. It's not so mad and bonkers, but that's fine.

In fact, I like it much more than the WRX Concept. The lines of that concept looked too coupé-ish to be a proper WRX, I'd say. And there's too much sci-fi feel. (or maybe that's just because of the strong lighting during the presentation?)

Still, we don't know how it drives, though. But even if it's just as good as the previous WRX and not particularly better, it's still something I'd consider a bargain if you can get it under US$30,000.

Re: WRX concept to production -- So it went from a cartoony concept with wacky hips and an impractical roofline to something for the real world...concepts are concepts.

I for one already liked the current Impreza; like a number of other cars coming out this decade it looks sharp, chiseled, stout. After the wacky wavy shapes and outlandish details of the '00s, I really like a lot of new cars today. Some people seemed to think this WRX wouldn't be an Impreza, but as I expected, that's primarily down to the name. Given that it's pretty much the same deal as always before, I can't see how the WRX's practical looks are such a letdown. I know the WRX/STI tends to be put onto some kind of "4-door sportscar" pedestal, but the Impreza has always been an economy car. If you can't respect that, you're not really looking at it for what it is, IMO.

After seeing the Impreza concept I was like WOW this thing is gonna look BEAST.... but I'm a little disappointed honestly.
it's not a bad looking car, it's just that they set my expectations too high with the concept that they showed. it looks like a Corolla with a hood scoop, nothing amazing about it
