I get that this is a parody account but what about all those years Bill Elliot won Most Popular driver while driving a privateer entry when he wasn't competitive. Generally that award isn't won by contenders.
And that's why the parody account's example is significantly flawed. Most popular driver wasn't the drivers in contention all the time. Hell, Dale Earnhardt won it in 2001 I believe and hadn't won it prior to that.

Between 1984 and 2002 Bill Elliot only lost out on the award 3 times (2 times to Darrell Waltrip, and to Earnhardt in 2001 after Elliot removed his name from the running). Another great example of how flawed the logic is when Narain Karthikeyan won MPD in the Truck Series in 2010. Karthikeyan competed in 9 races that season with a best finish of 11th, it was also the only year he competed in the series.

I hate F1 but yes can see how they would think they were entitled. I just feel NASCAR is at a crossroads with fans where no matter what they do will be wrong with the current crop. Constant bitching.

I can't blame fans as much as I can with F1, with NASCAR it's mostly the France family at fault. Overtime, caution clocks, knock out chase, chase expanding to lower tiers and on and on. When NASCAR does do something right they get praise, such as low downforce package.

I don't see how the defense of NASCAR here is all that viable considering the crap they've peddled since ratings started to decline a decade ago.
