Well darn, I was hoping to see him at Daytona in a couple weeks. Hope he isn't out for long.

That would be a bit too optimistic. If he does indeed have broken vertebrae, then he's going to miss many weeks of racing.

Finally an actual image and not something tied into a website background.

Its simple yet subtle as well, I like it.

Well we all know you can miss 1/3 of the season and still be handed a championship so...

So you're just going to ignore the part where there was still a gap that had to be made up for that to happen, all the while still healing from said injury? I get that a waiver basically kept it from being over but to say it was "handed" is completely ignoring the other parts that had to go right to even have a chance at taking advantage.

Well, now we know what part two of an inevitable tri-wreckta will look like......

A waiver is a free pass no matter what. Something that really shouldn't exist in motorsports. But of course this is NASCAR we are talking about.

Waivers would be completely unnecessary if NASCAR used a non-gimmick championship system. It should be that the best, most consistent driver all year wins the championship, not the guy who did just enough to make it to a gimmick playoff system.

It's a shame that a conventional 36 race season will never return because that makes too much sense for Brian France to implement that.

It was hardly a free pass. Most people said when Kyle returned that there was no way he could make up the points gap needed to get back in the top thirty, if he could even win a race at all. It took a lot of wins to make that points gap disappear.

I would say that only about three or four drivers in the Cup garage could make up that large of a gap, while returning from a severe leg injury, learning a new car setup that everyone else already had three months of experience in, all while breaking in a new crew chief and becoming a father for the first time.

I get it, you don't like the Chase system. But, you should still give Kyle credit for making one hell of an incredible comeback last year. Calling his Chase appearance a free pass is a joke.

Only joke here is NASCAR. Incredible comebacks are when you win a championship after starting the year with DNF's and do it without "wavers" or a gimmicky playoff system.

I like the chase as it is now. Although I would change the cutoff from top 30 to top 20 in points.

Watch him win the chase.

There is a theme in that, eh Brad and Kyle

It'd about damn time, how long do you have to driver for JRM before someone picks you up? No wonder some of the better drivers who aren't related to team owners have difficulty.

@MustangRyan I liked what you said, and thus I should explain a bit why I also liked what @GTPorsche and @R1600Turbo said as well. Even though they both conflict with what you said, you make a solid point that the man did and played with in the system that all the drivers dealt with, but I also agree only a handful of guys could win a race or two and follow with consistent top 5s and 10s. However, the problem isn't who won or how he won, but the fact that in a more realistic or straight forward system this wouldn't ever happen and it's more of a hate and disillusion with NASCAR then it is with Kyle Busch. And that is why I agree with what they're saying as well.

This'll probably be the one post I make here all year, so from what I think I know (likely all wrong):

-The chase expansion is pointless except to create drama. Actual race fans don't want it, but the clueless twits NASCAR tires to sucker in just eat up drama. I've spent enough time on Facebook to see it, but it will likely fail because casuals don't care about the minor leagues, they only want the stars.

-Calling the Truck series 'Caution Clock' a braindead or brainless is an insult to the braindead and brainless. Too bad I can't think of a better term. Anti-intelligent?

-From the cars I've seen for reality, the painting staff for our B-spec series could outdo pretty much all the cup cars. I almost fear what the NXS and Trucks may have to show.

-This 'Wavier' thing. I heard about it but I had thought (usually wrong) that if KB had made the top 30 with the needed wins he'd have been in the chase anyway. Also, didn't Denny get a wavier a short time ago? If yes, then what is the point of whatever rule the waiver protects against?

And you know what, 26 pages on I STILL don't think Brian France is the only chimp in charge..... Turn off caps lock, allow me to explain.

Remember when the Chase was created? How the stick and ball sports were consistently referenced for their playoff structure, and the money that goes with it? Remember how successful and belov....wait no, nevermind that last bit.

Well allow me to reintroduce you to Brian France's corporate counterpart, Mr. Robert Kauffman.

He did a lot for MWR behind the scenes I'm sure, but for all intensive purposes he was MWR's money. His decision shut down a mid-tier team in short order. He is the chairman of the Race Teams Alliance, and despite retiring he is a big-time investor. Where am I getting at? He and his people are talking to France and his people on something that lies in that gray-area where I don't know if it's good or bad.

The Team Charters.

It will likely happen because it makes race teams in NASCAR a safer business practice, meaning more money because teams are effectively guaranteed a starting spot for 5 years. My problem is that is as far as my understanding goes, and considering it's being hammered out between a buffoon and a shark, not having a grasp on it scares me more than either person. These quotes don't help:

From Jayski
Q) Talk about what you have been talking about with NASCAR.
Kauffman: I think it is pretty well known by now, this is a charter system with NASCAR to put more structure around teams so there is more value potentially to teams over time, so that NASCAR racing looks like other sports, which are organized and structured. We'd like team ownership to (look like) that of baseball or football. We are quite optimistic we will have something in place for 2016.
Q) Where does that now stand?
Kauffman: We have worked on this for a while. The teams have been working on it with NASCAR for a number of months. I think we are quite close to getting something done for the 2016 season, and the season starts in three weeks. I think all the major issues have been ironed out at this stage and now it's a matter of dotting the I's and crossing the T's and getting the paperwork sorted out. I'm quite optimistic we'll have something for this season.

So, what do the educated here know that can help? and what do the opinionated belive? Because I've got nothing on this one.

The team charter. Oh boy...

The way I see it, is they're trying to form a cohesive, or as cohesive as they can, grouping along the lines of the F1 Strategy Group. They'll claim it's in the best interest of the sport to have it, but in all honesty, behind the scenes, they're only going to do what's best for them. Eventually they'll hustle out the smaller teams and get whatever they want out of it.

As for Kyle winning the championship last season, I don't mind that he won. He was deserving of a championship in the series with his driving talent as great as it is. I just wish it had come in a more natural championship environment. All my problems lie with NASCAR themselves for thinking this system is working. The ratings have barely increased since 2003, and in most cases, the ratings haven't shown any positives for those ten races, and also in relation to that, races outside of the chase have suffered with ratings declines.

What needs to be done is the chase removed, the points stay the same (for the most part), and payouts for races need to be better divided up among the 43 participating teams.

BTW, Kaufmann didn't retire. He moved onto Ganassi. Only difference there is he can't run Ganassi out of the Cup series because Ganassi won't play those games.

I'm pretty much on the way out of watching this sport anyway. Jeff retired. I was looking forward to seeing what Tony could do this year because he was putting serious effort into bettering himself for this final season, but his accident ruined that, so I'm not sure why I should bother watching now.

No no, he retired from Investment Banking as his profession.

The lines above that, I pretty much agree. The last paragraph, I have TV again so I can actually watch races. I'm interested in how the drivers are gonna race because when the chase was redone to an elimination ladder, I saw more cars actively racing much more often in '14. It fell off some for '15 so I'm watching to see if it reverts to dullness now that the "new" has fully worn off.

Also, I'll probably watch the race muted then immediately change channels after the finish as the drivers all seem to be insufferable anymore.

Imagine if the ATV was running on Goodyears, imagine the field day Tony would've been having  /s

To be fair to Goodyear in that case, their off-road tires are actually really good. We've had a set of Wrangler MT/Rs on our Jeep for years, and the only issue we had with them was a blind shale rock cutting one on an off road trail. They were okay in the sand as well when aired down, but being a sand vehicle, I'm guessing that it had paddles on the back.

I hear the two reasons why SHR is waiting until Thursday to announce injuries are 1. Test results on Tony and 2. They are talking to replacements right now. They are trying to get Bowyer and work around sponsorship commitments but that seems like a huge headache. There has been talk of JAllgaier and, if Tony is out a while, possibly Cole Custer at Martinsville
