Charter teams, field size down to 40
display
Wait. Does that mean there are now only 40 cars racing instead of 43?

I had seen something about the 19 getting a charter from a team and the 21 and 41 getting the MWR charters, but I guess that isn't/hasn't happened yet.

Kaufmann has them to sell, let's be clear about that. Michael is out of the picture.
46 has brought a one year lease on the 62's charter

3 less start and parks. :p
According to nascar.com the most DNFs last year was 6. (Ragan Bowman Cassill). Nemechek finally hung it up to concentrate on his son's career. The funny thing about that is Jayski shows JHN wants to leave that team to further his career. I guess the young man has more brains than his old man

I don't think there should be any safety nets. If you're not good enough to compete, then too bad.
And what about teams who run into trouble through no fault of their own? The whole idea of the franchise system is to turn the entries into a tangible asset. Say you have a three-car team, but they struggle to secure sponsors and the running costs have the potential to jeopardise the the entire team. They can sell the franchise licence for the third car, and use the money to keep their other two cars running.

That doesn't tend to happen much. The car just won't run at all.

Certainly an interesting, if un-needed system. Pretty much a copy of the BTCC system.

It's a system we won't know if it's good or bad for years.
I'm excited because somebody mention revenue sharing yesterday. Ideal NASCAR to me would have team's base revenue replaced from sponsorship to shared television money. That would make it easier for smaller teams to become competitive, increase parity even more, and make it easier for rookies to break into the sport.

Revenue sharing would make more sense than this charter system. As it is now, I don't see it promoting new teams for the sport as the ones with the charters are the teams that have run every race in the previous two seasons. Any team that hasn't done that is a team that doesn't have the money or resources to have done that. Having revenue sharing for the teams that are lacking sponsorship is a better plan.

Help the teams that need the help, not the ones who have no risk of falling out.
