Am I alone in feeling the cautions were excessively long this past race in Vegas, even for Nascar standards? It's like they wanted to give those Fords a chance at making it on fuel /tinfoil hat ;)


It was seriously windy and dusty. I was almost blown on my ass on a couple of occasions, and there were a couple instances of rain drops.
 
We give PD crap for forcing stuff like ASM and TC in challenges in GT6, this isn't that much different.
Let the driver have control of their race car. Don't want to get caught speeding on pit road? Don't speed on pit road. The handful of times we've had incidents (aka guys getting ran over) the last few years, it has always happened either when cars were leaving their stall or getting in to it. If there were guys getting hit while drivers are trying not to speed every other week I'd see a point to a pit speed limiter, but right now I just don't.
 
I feel if people all of a sudden want drivers to have a larger control of input on how cars and races should operate rather than NASCAR themselves...then why wasn't this said after the new chase format, with the aero rulings, power cuts, and caution clocks?

It seems too many times people are okay with drivers falling in line with what NASCAR says, until it's something that seems to rub their "NASCAR fundamentals" the wrong way. So which is it, subjective view on how you believe NASCAR is? Or actual honest debate about drivers who should have had a bigger voice long ago?

That's irrelevant to the discussion. We're not discussing changing pit lane speed, just the implementation of a hard limiter programmed in the ECU.
 
I like the fact there's no pitlane speed limiter, it actually makes it a true 'race off pit road' as it's a game of who dares to get closest to the limit for the advantage.

I also like that it does add an extra challenge to it for the drivers.

This is nothing to do with progress as it would be easy to implement, it's about removing something which I think is part of the character of the sport.

Plus a pit-lane speed limiter would do absolutely nothing for safety as they're marginally over the limit when they get busted now. It's not like cars go blasting down pitroad 15-20 mph over because the driver is incapable, we're talking 1-5 mph at best.

Plus it's fun in iracing so i'd like to keep it :p

Read it again. I wrote that if drivers were having trouble avoiding crew members because they were too distracted looking at their dashboards trying not to speed, then it's a valid issue and pit speed limiters would be a fine solution. The problem is that it doesn't happen.

When suggesting making changes in NASCAR, I look at only three issues. The first and most important is fan safety. The second is safety of pit crew and drivers. Finally, the last and least important thing is excitement. None of these issues are improved upon with pit speed limiters.

That's been happening since NASCAR said the teams couldn't manually reach down and flare it themselves. They set the cars up to hit the track and flare the skirts out. Just like how teams are hitting before the rear wheel with tires now for an extra aero benefit.

Can't get busted for the car doing the damage but if you get caught hitting the car to flare the skirt you get busted. I believe it happened to the 48 last season.
 
Anybody seeing this? The heck is making the smoke in the 5? :odd: White smoke pouring from the aie cleaner...but no flames? :odd:

Edit: Kahne said he turned all the switches off, but the engine continued to run. NASCAR may want to take a look at this one.

So apparently the engine in the 5 put itself into what they're calling "EFI Protection Mode" (Fuel injection protection mode? What?) and exploded. Weirdest engine self-destruction ever. :odd:
 
They are all having a hard time with turn 3 and the track conditions. I predict lots of yellow come the race.

Gibb's Toyotas 1, 2, 3 in final qualifying. :bowdown:

All of the races have dropped since last year. Most notably, the Atlanta race is the least watched second race of the season in 16 years.
 
Damn, Kyle Busch is my favorite driver but even I'm getting kinda tired of seeing him beat up on these Xfinity Series fields. Some of you guys touched on this earlier I believe and I have to agree with some that I think these races should be for the regulars of the series only. I mean, I'm not butthurt about it either way, but I just think the regulars should have a chance at winning instead of having to battle seasoned veterans. There is pros and cons I suppose, just thinking out loud I guess, lol.
 
Should have a system, for example:

Cup - Platinum/Gold/Silver
Xfinity - Silver/Bronze/Dirt
*Truck series shouldn't exist*
