One thing I am proud of for my Texans is how much people have stepped up on defense in place of injured players. I am not just talking about J.J. Watt, though. Jadeveon Clowney has never been better even with all the injury trouble he's had. I like Johnathan Joseph, but I also like new boy A.J. Bouye. Really, it's the defense that is keeping the Texans afloat. It used to be that the team mostly had some hard-hitting offense and a so-so defense. It's the reverse now. Tom Savage does give that offensive lift the Texans need. Savage has connected better with receivers and such than Brock Osweiler. When Osweiler gets rattled, he's a hot mess. So I feel good giving the keys to the car to Tom Savage. Osweiler is still a good quarterback, but he can only be great once he gets the proper chemistry going passing the ball and making various other decisions.
My Houston Texans are 8-6 on the season. However... so are the Baltimore Ravens, the Denver Broncos, and the Tennessee Titans. We lead the AFC South at present. A loss by us followed by wins by any combination of BAL/DEN/TEN, and we could be battling for a Wild Card instead of securing the AFC South. The one us Texans fans most have to be concerned with is how Tennessee does at Jacksonville this week. Remember I said this is the time of the season when you care about teams other than your favorite, especially when trying to make the postseason. For us Texans fans, Tennessee must lose at Jacksonville. The dream best case for the Texans would be us beating Cincinnati, followed by Tennssee losing at Baltimore, Baltimore losing at Pittsburgh, and Denver losing at Kansas City. The worst case- HOU loses vs. CIN, TEN wins at JAX, BAL wins at PIT, and DEN wins at KC.
Let's update the "in" list, shall we? Teams "in" at this point:
--- AFC ---
* New England (AFC East Champions)
* Oakland (playoff berth)
--- NFC ---
* Dallas (playoff berth)
* Seattle (NFC West Champions)
More of these will be filled out next week and the week after.
