...so, are you or are not ? :odd:

I was surprised about not being surprised with the surprise retrofit of what looks like the current models panels, ala the "new" Dodge Charger.

Although, this one seems a bit more of a refresh than that.

For some reason, it doesn't look all that big to me.
Toyota engineer guy said in a Livestream webcast the wheelbase(s) are the same and overall length increased 3-4 inches, most of that is in the front overhang.

The TRD Off-Road package looks much better, I'm still not sure how that medical grade beige color looks though.

Unfortunately the one you've already seen was the only pic I took:

I thought it looked great though. The beige is unusual enough that it gives it a bit of a special project/skunkworks vibe.

A vehicle that doesn't look boring in beige...that's actually interesting.

After seeing the one you posted, I think I rather like the color. Something just seemed off in the press photos.

Is that a matt finish? I've actually never seen that and it does look great actually.

I wonder if Beige works better on this and the Tacoma because of the kind of trucks they are. Maybe on them, Beige looks more like the sandy environment they were made for (kinda like the desert colors on an armored vehicle).

This says it's "a flat finish. It's not matte, but this paint certainly isn't reflective by modern standards."

There's definitely a pseudo-military feel to it that suits those sort of trucks. It could also just be a combination thing - beige goes well with black detailing and red highlights, like the tail lamps or the TRD script on the Toyota.

Either way, I'm not really a truck person but I'd totally rock one in just that combination if I lived in an appropriate bit of the U.S.

What gets me is how great, and yet how terrible the Hilux looks in some of those press photos. As much as I can complain about how lame the Tacoma ended up being, at the very least, my expectations are relatively leveled in all the configurations of the truck. On the Hilux? It looks like a base trim regular cab is a completely different model than that top trim crew cab one there.

I saw dozens of Hilux trucks in Trinidad, and they really do look goofy and ill-proportioned in person...just like the Chevy Canyon. Mid-sized four-door trucks appear rather dumpy and strange, and giving them "Identical Corporate Face" doesn't help.

The car face the trucks outside of America gets is pretty strange to me and I really don't understand it. It seems something more boxy and "truck-like" like the Tacoma is would be more favorable to the rounded corner of a Camry-faced Hilux.

Apparently, these have GoPro mounts.

I think the current TRD Pro's come with mounts too, it's kind of a cool and gimmicky feature. I just used a sticky mount for my truck, seems to work just as good.

The 2.8L 4cyl diesel with 174 hp/332 ft/lbs needs to find its way to the Tacoma.

I both want this, and don't want this at the same time. If Toyota does offer a diesel Taco, I'm going to have to trade mine in for one and I'm not sure I want to do that just yet .

I think GM is offering the Colorado with a diesel option in it though, and I imagine if it sells well Toyota will almost have to offer the 2.8 for the Tacoma if they want to compete with it. Having a little over 330lb ft of torque sounds rather nice.

The new Cummins and Duramax 2.8L's should be rated around 200hp and 350 ft/lbs so the Hilux engine should fit with some tweaks. It's too bad that with the way Toyota works the diesel Tacoma should debut in 2020 when the new Taco gets a updated grill.:banghead:

Tacoma > Hilux

The Hilux looks disgusting, i don't know if the tradies here will go with it, but the fleet numbers will make it number 1.

The Ranger still looks the best with the Amarok a very close second.

They really need to make an R version of the Amarok and put a 4.2 V8 TDI in it and that will change my mind on it.

The Tacoma (along with the Nissan Frontier) need a refresh. Hope they keep a manual transmission option.

That looks like a massive afterthought when it came to the dash design. It almost looks 'shopped in this photo.

Looks like every modern Toyota interior as of late. Giant screen grafted onto super-plastic surfaces. The Corolla and Camry are much the same, along with the Scion lineup.

Yeah thank god Toyota didnt follow this trend. I love the sheen of plastic in the morning.

Be careful turning the lights on and dont drop it into 4wd at 70mph.

From what I've seen on the Tacoma forums, the manual transmission is still an option for the 2016 in both engine configurations. I know some of the off-road guys like the manuals as do the guys who get the 4 cylinder, 2wd runabouts.
