I think Hawksworth will win this, Servia will pit for fuel and all the others are going loads slower than him to save as much as they can.

E- Ignore that, Helio and Co came out ahead of him.

Well done Pagenaud for gambling on that.

Still worried about Hinch.

My local ABC station cut to a :censored:in thunderstorm warning as the leaders were going into the second to last turn.

I don't care that there's a puff of cloud that might have some rotation. Tell me when there's an F3 on the ground, so I go outside and look at it. Otherwise stfu.

Hope he's ok, what was it he said on the radio as he pulled over?

Understand it was a fluke but certain aspects of that race really concern me, the standing start was a mess, we have the safety car restarts which have been a misery all season and the flying Plowman over the curb into Montagny. (Track issue rather than Indy Car)

Note with the standing start, there was ONE yellow flag waving for Saavadra. Normally flags are being furiously waved.

Mayor Ballard of Indianapolis was hit by debris at the start of the race.He was standing next to the pace car waving a green flag.It might have been part of a control arm.

That's 2 for 2 of mayors injured in today's race.

That first lap crash was horrifying, where I was, the crowd fell silent. Indycar needs to install a system like F1 has and CART had in 07 to prevent these stalls and a button on the wheel if a driver stalls to press so the start is aborted. It was a good race overall besides the crashes :D
I recorded the start and screenshot the scene which I screenshot again (sorry that it is blurry)

Crazy... Glad everybody was more or less OK, certainly not the ideal way to start a GP, though. Seems like Munoz and Aleshin both got screwed over pretty good on this one...

Goodness it looks even worse on that video than it did on the video boards.

That's the problem when you don't have anti-stall. Saavedra was on the front row, while Munoz and Aleshin were starting from much further down the grid, and given the acceleration of the cars, they were easily doing 100km/h or more by the time they got to the stricken Saavedra.

Formula 1 has an aborted start procedure, where a driver waves his arms when he has a problem, giving the marshals a few seconds to alert the grid and allow everyone to do another formation lap. They did it in Australia, when Marcus Ericsson's engine cut out completely. But more importantly, the cars have an anti-stall system. If the revs drop too low, the anti-stall kicks in, allowing the driver to get away. He loses a few seconds and half a dozen places, but the car is moving, and he can still get away. It's still dangerous, as everyone has to avoid a slow car, but it's nowhere near as dangerous as having a stalled car on the grid.

If anything, this accident shows the lack of procedures in IndyCar (and the close proximity of the walls did nothing to help). This is the kind of accident I would have expected thirty years ago - there was a Formula 1 driver killed in just such an accident at Montreal back in 1982, and the sport moved to fix the issue.

Just got a notification from ESPN: James Hinchcliffe suffered a concussion when hit in head by debris.

EJ Viso will drive the 27 if Hinchcliffe isn't cleared to drive it tomorrow and any day after that if needed, and I don't think it's very likely Hinchcliffe will be driving tomorrow.

It's duel races?!

Practice on the oval starts tomorrow. Qualifying is Saturday. He'll probably be cleared for Saturday, but I'm not sure if there's any on-track stuff during the week.

It is very dangerous to do any major physical activity after a brain injury. He probably needs to sit out the 500 i think just to be safe.
