They'd hold together better if the drivers weren't using them as bumpers.

Bingo. Aero parts work the best when everyone drives less like bumper cars and more like professionals.

Yeah the stock Dallara was a brick ...they need to relearn how to drive Formula cars with actual aero bits on them again.:scared:

Looking at a picture taken from the grandstands the part was part of the rear wheel bumper, a Dallara part of the 98 car.

Look close at 33 sec mark.

Watching the video linked by @IforceV8 I have to say... it looks like some of the world's best drivers driving like amateurs. Of course aero breaks if you hit another car with it. The commentary seems to be blaming the wings. D'oh :D

They need to drive like proper open wheel drivers (F1 bar Maldonado) and not treat these things like go karts/bumper cars. Stricter penalties for accidents should be enacted too.

Just wait until these things hit the ovals. Remember that we got to judge these cars on both oval AND road courses. You know you got to race both styles of courses differently. Anyone who treats an Indy car around an oval like a stock car around an oval is a dope. We won't get to see any ovals until the Indy 500- meaning we'll have to wait until May 24 this year before we see the IndyCar Series races on any oval.

Here's the schedule for April:

IndyCar Series: April 2015
* Apr 12: Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana (NOLA Motorsports Park), 3:00 PM EDT
* Apr 19: Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach (Long Beach) 4:00 PM EDT
* Apr 26: Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama (Barber Motorsports Park) 3:00 PM EDT

All races to be televised on NBC Sports Network.

Its good we aren't waiting forever for the next race, finally watched St Pete all the way through, Montoya deserved the win, Power would have won if it weren't for his final stop, but Montoya proved he could stick with Will on the hard tires without doing silly things, very professional drive,

Power would have won it if it wasn't for playing bumper cars. He had the pace to overtake Montoya, but he acted like that was his only chance to do so.

In post race interview he said that said he thought that was his only chance as Montoya was getting onto the front straight better and was able to maintain the gap in the first sector, he would claw back to the corner but then lose it again,

NBC Sports Network is to show highlights of the Indy Lights Series race around St. Petersburg at the bottom of the hour. It will be the first time we'll see possible young talent that might step up to IndyCar in the future.

[UPDATE] BOTTOM of the hour. Actually, it's on right now as of this update!

What chassis/ engine do they run in that?

The little introduction to this race shows that the Indy Lights package is a brand-new (and great looking, I might add) Dallara chassis under Mazda power.

[UPDATE/EDIT] The new car is called the Dallara IL-15. The cars are all powered by 450hp Mazda engines. They sound pretty cool from the onboard camera views I've seen so far. They kind of sound like the IndyCar Series engines but at a somewhat higher pitch and with the same throaty growl.

It's possible that May will get here and there will be more than 33 cars on the entry list, unlike last year where 33 seemed impossible.

would be great to see a full field at Indy, but why we cant have more part timers across the season is beyond me, I'm a huge fan of the "privateer" entries, but I think Indycar needs to get these guys on track at more events, even if it is just another oval or two,

Because sponsors are only interested in the 500 probably.

Are you saying that they should expand the field to allow more cars on ovals? Indy pulled that stunt at Las Vegas, and we saw what happened...

That's what happens when people start out of qualifying order, from last to the top 10 before the crash? It was inevitable,

Aside from that, I'm saying that indycar should provide more assistance to get these 1 off/ start and parks on track at another event or two, and have them complete the event,

Last to top 10 wouldn't have been an issue if it was a normal field of ~24 and the cars weren't running inches apart from 1 to 30. A few inexperienced drivers in there and you have exactly what resulted in that race.
