They messed up turn 1 worse than IMSA could ever hope to. That reminded me of when F1 had a noob crash back in 06

At least they could pack the grandstands at that race (and pretty much every US GP for that matter)... last weekend the whole front stretch was basically empty.

Turn one I think is a problem for all series that race it, it's a 90 degree corner after a long straight (which the cars are at the very beginning of). F1 had a start crash there in 2007 as well.

So someone in the Aero Kit department forgot that air will raise a giant middle finger to any design if a 600kg car goes backwards at over 150mph.

Least it woke the commentator up.

Whoa that's awful

As bad as that was, its even scarier from onboard:

And here's some haunting irony for you as pointed out from another forum:

Very strange coincidence in that today is the 10 year anniversary of Sam Hornish Jr. flipping in Indy 500 practice. Hornish Jr. was also driving a Team Penske car, and Helio was his teammate that year.

Thank goodness that when the car went airborne, it went towards the inside of the track, if the wind was different, he would have been flying into the catchfence.

Pippa Mann just did her best Kevin Cogan impression.

She is ok.

Truly 'YOINK!'-worthy, if you ask me.

Also, I've quoted these posts in the 99th Indy 500 thread. I hope that's OK with you. :)

The YouTube link however, is not.

For a second there i thought that was a clip of the AI in project CARS trying to pit...
Ooh...Shots fired. One would still have to wonder how bad it'll be when the DW12 does get in there. But that's for a different time.

HMMMMMMMMMM

This happened on live local news when I was watching it yesterday. :dopey:

IndyCar, and any other series that races at IMS really deserve a better track. I hope the speedway gets a kickin' facelift soon or we could be in trouble.

So you are you all concluding that this year's Indy 500 could be more brutal than that race at Las Vegas a few years ago that took Dan Wheldon's life? I'm sure these cars will have to be adjusted in many ways to ensure nothing vicious happens. Remember- this is the first oval race of the season (if you can believe it) for these new cars. For as much as adjustments and experience went into the street and road courses so far, we and the IndyCar teams will learn dealing with the new cars and aero packages on the ovsls. I'm hopeful the teams will figure something out here.

I don't think we'll have anything of the magnitude of Vegas '11 but this is a bit concerning. The teams have time to figure something out though.
