Honda finished 2-9 but the home team Chevy gets the headline. Hats off the the KV guys for nailing the pit stop and getting Seb out ahead of JPM.

The best thing though is this is the last ABC race for the year.

I saw most of the second race at Detroit. Congratulations to the former multi-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais on the win of the second Dual in Detroit race. Congrats also to Carlos Muñoz on winning the shortened first Dual in Detroit race.

Up next... Texas. That's right- fellow Texans of GTPlanet, native Texans (like myself) and non-native Texans... the IndyCar Series will grace this great state and Texas Motor Speedway by putting on a high-speed show. I'm pretty sure that unlike Detroit this weekend, there probably won't be any brutal rains this coming weekend at Texas. Many of us are still trying to dry out after all the bad weather we've got in this state.

Anyhow, we go from the wet streets of Detroit to the high-speed fury of Texas as this season continues.

Hopefully whenever the next TV deal happens they get rid of the cable exclusivity license (why NBC can't air races, only NBCSN and why ABC can't put races on ESPN). I would make the licenses like this:

The 1st half of the season (bar May races) where 1/2 the races would be on network TV and the other half on cable (ex: NBC and NBCSN)

Month of May license (Indy GP and Indy 500, network TV only (ex: ABC)

2nd Half of the season; 1/2 of the races on network TV and other half on cable (ex: FOX and FS1 or CBS and CBSSN)

Then, Indycar would have a broad exposure across multiple networks.

ABC is a local channel so I don't see the problem since everyone gets it. ESPN is a cable channel.

After seeing the last 2 races there, my hopes are not high for Texas.

I hope that JPM at least puts some more gap between him and his rivals now that it's an oval again.

Funny enough, the reason why Indycar is in Forza and probably will end up in GT is they dont ask the bank for their license like F1. As Bourdais said, its all about making Money, Indy is not
It's coming to Project CARS soon, oval and road course specific bodykits and all.

In the 70's, racing hit its technological speed and safety point. In the 80's, the people who could figure out the system and manipulate it began to be the (only) winners. So, in the late 80's and most of the 90's, racing rather fell apart. This was because it became a one person race and, otherwise, a parking lot.

Nascar (as much as I don't REALLY love it, though it's nice and has its place) figured out in the 50's and 60's that they were going to be fighting technology and pulled it back massively. Then, even the little guys (there are STILL one car garages out there) could run with the big guys. And it's a show and a REAL RACE!

Well, towards the end of the 90's, Imsa, Indy Car, and others went all but bankrupt because they weren't having a fun show. So, over the last 15-20 years, they have rebuilt and figured out the system and made it interesting to watch and be involved with.

F1 hasn't. AT. ALL.

So, now that F-1's show is even MORE stupid than it has ever been, they are losing crowds.

I'm just waiting for the money to run out (as that is ALL that has kept the parking lot paved) and for them to FINALLY be lost to their stupidity.

I read a statement by Bernie himself that "We don't need the youth in our sport."

Yeah, THAT'S smart.....

Indy car left F1 to prevent being dragged down, and the genius of that decision is becoming apparent.

If Indycar can make the cars less fat (make the side pods like the IL car), keep the bonkers aero styling and attract maybe one or two more manufacturers...DING DING DING! Best open wheel series...EVER. :p

And can we please remove the rear wheel guards on the road course and short course oval kits?! PLEASE?! On the ovals yes they make things safer...but they aren't necessary on road courses or places like Milwaukee...cut them off.

This! This is why in the short term the early years of CART worked, multiple chassis, multiple engines, was fantastic, I know safety of the drivers is paramount over everything else, but I think the car is due for an evolution and rethink, they need to lose the "its a GP2 car under that" stigma,

Yes and no. I think that the show and real racing is better for the format they are using. After all, a different winner every week is quite an accomplishment on SO many levels!

At the same time, it COULD be interesting to have more variety. But, again, I think they have a good system for now, and the aero kits are making a nice bit of variety. We shall see how that plays out.

What bothers me most about the fat ugly side pots is that they're there simply to give sponsors a large billboard on the cars. Ridiculous. Ruin the look of the cars for sponsors.

Indy should either go full closed wheel like a Le Mans prototoype or full openwheel. This hybrid stuff again is ridiculous.

Im just hoping the current car was a mistake they'll learn from, like NASCAR and the first generation COT.

I would love it if we got cars that look like LMP2's. :3

Just imagine these without headlights, driver seat in the middle, with or without the big airbox.

I think the next IndyCar will probably be similar to the Red Bull X2010, X2011, and X2014 minus the fan generating additional downforce. IndyCar is seriously considering mandating closed cockpits for their next-generation cars. As for my usual pre-race update...

Live coverage of the Firestone 600 starts tonight at 8:00 PM EDT on NBCSN!

Does Texas have higher speeds compared to Indy?

I thought Fontana might at least get close, due to the high banking compared to a flat Indy.
Fontana is banked right around but with uneven banking depending on corner (3 to 14 degrees) Texas is certainly got higher banking(24 degrees)but its a 1.5 miler, compared to Fontanas 2 mile layout.

But Indy is a 2.5 miler with really long straights.

But if all are at their limits Fontana would probably be the fastest and holds the highest speed record at 240mph.
