I strongly approve of the new design. It will make for significantly more contact with less danger of blown tires and deranged suspension leading to retirements.

Huh? All I see is tons of little aero pieces which will fall off during a race..which means more pace cars.
Fortunately, these aren't the only designs available, and apparently even Dallara's own final designs don't look like that, they are meant to be examples of what you can do.

But for what its worth, I think those designs look terrible. The road course design looks pretty much like a HRT with F1-front wing endplates stuck all over the place. There just looks like there are too many fiddly little pieces which will fall off but lose masses of downforce, a problem that DTM faces sometimes. Hopefully none of the chassis designers go that route.

Wow, it's much cuter than I feared... 👍

Keep in mind that these are just mockups. The real designs are still a secret.

Now, I'm not sure whether or not we'll see them in 2012. I thought the owners wanted to hold off until 2013?

I think they just wish to hold off the ability to design their own bodykits for the first year, allows the smaller teams to get to grips with the new chassis too.

Anyone heading to Indy this weekend? gonna be there Saturday, gonna look for Robin Miller to get his take on Penske wanting to wait until '13, isn't he the one who was always one step ahead of the field.think he's 'fraid that Chevy won't have a good aero kit and Honda might just be the best or even the Dallara... still love the mockup. and everyone Google Dallara GP2/08 chassis, and just add the "rear bumper" and they're very similar.

Those mockups make me think of Hot Wheels. I could see that as a Hot Wheels car. I have to say it's an interesting design, though.

Nasty crash for Simona :(
Minor burns on her hands, let's hope she'll be fit to qualify for the race 👍

"Oh, my God!" That was my reaction when I say J.R. whack the outside wall with just one corner to go. I did not know what to think when I saw this guy just eat the outside wall when he was supposed to win this race over Dan Wheldon. But man... BIG drama. IndyCar on Yahoo! Sports has a headline calling it "Heaven and Hell" describing the last-lap crash and Dan Wheldon's win. • I was pleased at Danica Patrick for her performance. • As much as I love Danica, I'm sending special love to Charlie Kimball. I'm starting to admire Charlie Kimball for his willingness to race despite having diabetes. I mean... you just have to root for the guy. Not letting something like diabetes bring him down. And also, I think he placed pretty well for an Indy first-timer. I read he placed 13th. Pretty good.

I'm usually known for asking about winners and losers. For the losers, it's Penske hands-down. Just a poor run of luck at Indy this season for a team usually much better than what they shown at Indy.

So who are your winners and losers from Indy 2011? Oh, and I'm interested to see how the two races at Texas go in a couple of weeks.

Winners:

Wheldon - great composed drive.
Andretti Autosport - "Hey - Ryan didn't qualify! I know lets buy someone else's car instead!"

Losers:

Hildebrand - cruel but it happens
Penske - Where where they?
Simona Di Silvestro - Valiant effort but not surprised
Paul Tracy - What was the point of him being their...

According to Speed Center and from what I've read on Yahoo! Sports' IndyCar page, the IZOD IndyCar Series will race at Motegi... but on the Motegi road course because the oval is too damaged to host a race there. So this will be the first-ever IndyCar Series visit to the Motegi road course. It will also be the final race in Japan for the series. Here's a link, courtesy of Yahoo! Sports:

Thoughts? If they DO want go back to Japan, Fuji or Suzuka (or maybe Autopolis or Okayama) wouldn't hurt... :)

I don't understand how the oval is damaged but not the road course.

From what I've read both were damaged but they haven't repaired the oval yet and probably won't for awhile as it's not used as much.

That clears it up better.

The oval was only built for Indycar purposes and the only time it was used outside of Indycar (that I'm aware of) was for one or two NASCAR exhibition races.

How does the Texas race(s) work? I know they're two races... are results added together? 1 a qualification race?

^ Race 1 determines the qualifying order for race 2, the points from each race are added together.

Interesting "Qualifying"
Kanaan on pole, Wade Cunningham on 2, power on 3. Dixon 18th and Franchitti 28th.

Who would of thought Will Power would win an oval race before Helio and Sir wrecks-a-lot Briscoe.

After seeing this, the idea is cool but this doesn't work because its a championship race... I agree with Dario.. just invert the field next year and let them race! :sly: They need to do it for that the Sprint Cup All-Star Race again especially the final segment. --- Randy

Best wishes to all the IndyCar Series racers as they'll rock the Milwaukee Mile tomorrow.

That random grid draw for the second race in Texas was ridiculous. Fortunately, the system is getting changed next year.

Go Taku! 👍 I'm gutted I can't watch this on the Indycar website anymore, I always enjoyed following Sato's progress, usually dramatic.
