Not exactly. As a brazilian, I can explain the issue. The Distrito Federal government (our DC) was in the hands of a moron. He basically signed a deal with TV Bandeirantes, the promoter of the event, that was so absurd and irregular that the prossecusion office forbid the state to put any more cent into the works that were needed to make the Nelson Piquet Circuit able to held the event.

The moron's term of office ended is last dezember. So, the crisis fell in the hands of his successor.

The whole thing goes down to Bandeirantes trying to promote the race without spending any cent. They tried the same move last year, which led to a cancellation of that idiotic race in the ugliest bit of São Paulo.

The only relation with this mess and the World Cup is the fact that the track is situated alongside the stadium, which was used on the Cup.
Did this affect the planned MotoGP race at the track too? If so, the pieces would s

MotoGP race was canceled as well.
I'm aware of that. I was asking if the same reasons were why it was cancelled.

Why did they wait so long to decide? It was reported that the track paving was continuing up to the day the race was cancelled.

Well, they have to do something, I mean, the boxes area were put down and the track surface is the same for 40 years. The heavy machinery which was on the complex until the works were stopped pretty much ruined what was already a very poor tarmac. The circuit had never being resurfaced since it was opened in the 70's.

The works to host the Indycar race were put around 80 million (reais, some US$ 180 million, and the revised contract boasted even greater values, which were enough to make the new F1 grade Interlagos paddock twice!). The new government just made a commitment to release 20 million reais, which is the bare minimun to just resurface the circuit and maybe build new boxes to Stock Car and other national and South American competitions. They also didn't said when this is going to happen.

Even if they released more money and now, the race was scheduled to march 8th. The track would never going to be ready in time.

And knowing the political inertia regarding motorsport here (just look to what happened to Jacarepagua Circuit in Rio de Janeiro and all the lies about the new track), I'll bet that this is going to take a while.

* sorry about my fast typing english. As soon as I land, I'll edit this.

This is a bit out of left field...

Edit: http://motorsportstalk.nbcsports.co...fit-in-preparation-for-possible-indycar-test/ Looks like it's just Andretti taking measures in case there's a conflict with his full-time drivers not being able to test.

Edit2: KVSH is testing drivers this week for a 2nd car this season... James Jakes, Stefano Colleti and Sebastian Saavedra. http://www.racer.com/indycar/item/113334-indycar-kv-sampling-drivers-at-nola-for-second-entry

In a rather expected turn of the events, the 20 million reais that won't be released to resurface the track in Brasilia. The DF government said that it was a miscommunication. The money will be used to resurface bumpy streets in the capital city.

In portuguese.

Well that's a new sponsor color combination, still distinctively Penske.

It's not as of now. Just a rumor. If Andretti and/or Wilson can't get sponsorship, then the team is set the way it is now.

Somewhere in the region of Silverstone and Spa wouldn't be a bad idea for venues.

I know its entirely a dream, but Mount Panorama anyone???

Serious note, if its going international its going where its wanted, ie, who has the biggest wallet, hopefully we could see them at Dubai, I do hope they stay away from Silverstone and all other current F1 venues, whilst the money might be there it might not be a good move for the sport,

Certain world events happening in a certain region of the world stopped the Dubai event from happening...it would have been so good too. 🤬 🤬 🤬

I would love it if Indycar could open up and end with an international even of some kind.

Well with the state government of Queensland having been retaken by cash wasters recently, the Gold Coast Indy 300 in Australia might not be dead yet,

That would be epic.

Yeah, but so would seeing them back at Edmonton, Portland or some of the street tracks/ airport circuits champcar used, I loved champcar because most of the circuits were exciting, places that weren't regularly used by other series,
