Why? Just... Why? It's turn 1, the hole was already closing, he should have known that was going to end badly.

We have seen the newer cars race road courses and now an oval after yesterday's Indy 500. What do you think about these cars now that we've seen them race road/street courses and an oval? Or do we have to see them run a few more style ovals to have an overall assessment of the new cars?

I think that we'll find out after another race. I'm so glad there's diversity again...the top American Formula (Open Wheel) series can't be spec...that's ridiculous. I'm fine with a spec chassis/carbon tub then different engines and bodywork. Indycar, car wise, has grown much better even with just these new manufacture specific aero kits.

The next oval race is in two weeks time at Texas. This coming weekend, though, it's the doubleheader on Belle Isle in Detroit. The Dual in Detroit. I'll want to see this new car performs on tracks like Milwaukee or Iowa or someplace.

I expect the cars on intermediate Ovals to be different then what we saw at the 500, Indycar aero has always been vastly different at for instance Texas then it is at Indy.

Maybe just a trimmed version of of the road course kits?

I'd like to see Indycar regain the variety of cars of past decades, before the IRL and ChampCar became spec series. It might be a decent chance to implement cost controls that F1 is too reluctant to try out.

I'd love that. If Ford or Mazda took on the Cosworth deal that'd be great. The aerokits are the first step. Maybe with the end of DP, Riley or Coyote could make an Indycar chassis. I'd like the side pods to go back to the Indy Lights chassis though, using the bottom of the carbon chassis as the "wheel shield" instead.

Double post I know...but I figured that this was a topic that needed to be bumped:

Hinchcliffe has been released from the hospital! :)

In talking about variety, when I got into racing in about 1999, (then) CART had Honda, Toyota, Ford-Cosworth, and Mercedes-Benz. Then I think the (then) Indy Racing League had Oldsmobile and Infiniti and maybe one or two other makes whose names fail me in making this post. Maybe with more interest from other constructors and manufacturers, we could see possibly more unique cars made for the IndyCar Series. That is unless the series is fine with just Chevrolet and Honda.

I would like to see some more involvement by other makes. Like... let's pretend Nissan or any VW/Audi brand wanted to get involved in IndyCar in the future. Maybe imagine Jaguar or BMW wanting a piece of IndyCar action. Or how about this for an unlikely addition- Dodge or Chrysler? With enough interest, it may be possible for maybe some more involvement from other makes and constructors.

I could see Nissan doing it...maybe even VW or a VWAG brand. Mazda wouldn't surprise me either, heck they help drivers get near Indycar with their "Road to Indy" program. Might as well be at the top eh?

But Indycar...please...choose a slimmer chassis next time will ya?!

Top Six qualifying spots for race 1 in Detroit.

1 Will Power
2 Helio Castroneves
3 Juan Pablo Montoya
4 Takuma Sato
5 Simon Pagenaud
6 Sebastien Bourdais

So, lets have votes on who Sato takes out in turn 1!
I'm gonna say It'll be a JPM/Pagenaud sandwich.

Weird, I could swear the qualifying at St. Pete wasn't very different from that.

Rain and Sato, maybe Penske will have the rules changed to make him start from the pits.

Green flag is 1 min after the ABC broadcast starts.
