That's surely going to be a penalty for JC, right? :indiff:

Post-race, these new rules are officially a joke

This is getting tense man. SVG has got it by the looks of it.

You could feel it all falling SVG's way. Damn shame. I wanted this for Scotty and djr.

Well, that's my season done. I had hoped things might be different, but I see we can look forward to van Gisbergen smirking and Roland Dane being a pain. I see there's a re-run of "Law & Order" on another channel - that might be better viewing.

He does celebrate better than most though.

Scotty looks heart broken

Was that the first race to go flag to flag without a 'saftey' car at clipsal?

Is it possible to ban Riana Crehan from interviewing Will Davison? Because that interview with Davison in the ice bath was just pathetic and cringeworthy as anything.

Might look at one more event before deciding, but this looks a lot like the last half the series last year. Red Bull runs rings around others even when held up or has an issue, that combined with these new incredibly **** rules just makes for a terrible series to watch. Hopefully when the structure of the series changes next year it will make things less dull, if we're lucky Red Bull can't deal with the changes and we might get less of the 888 Supercars featuring Ford and Nissan

Why is everyone cheering? The most detestable driver just passed the most likeable.
Is that just your opinion or, can you actually back it up with facts or a source?

PRA never really start out at Clipsal strong, DJR penske do but their driver line up since James Courtney has been filled with B grade drivers, I don't expect Triple 8 to run away with it, if anything its shaping up to be a good season, sans rule package,

Hahaha it's a little too early for all that doom and gloom stuff. It's been one weekend.

Does Maro Engel count?
Not sure your aware of the typical casual Supercar fanbase. Manufacturer warfare is more recognize with this series than the drivers themselves and Holden does have the bigger fanbase. I admit I fall victim to this too, 2 of my favourite drivers (Rick Kelly and Michael Caruso) are Nissan, however I still prefer to cheer any Holden driver over them because I've been a Holden man all my life.

Despite the "Holden vs. Ford" rivalry being officially over, you can tell in the casual fans heart they still refuse it to be over and support either or. Doesn't help that Scott Mclaughlin in the Volvo was the only one to challenge this mentality consistently. Ford still has a strong fanbase even though Ford themselves pretty much left it all to Prodriver and there are only 6 Fords.

Now I do like SVG, more in the fact that I like drivers I find interesting or exciting with their character or style over the typical good, clean, underdog drivers but this season definitely isn't over. DJR look really strong to be Red Bulls new challengers with Volvo gone and Prodrive starting to get their racing groove back (Waters has massively improved from last season, I'm impressed)

See, I've never fully understood the "He drives a 'brand X' so he's a good/bad guy." thing.

Peter Brock was my first touring car hero & I followed him from Holden, to BMW, to Ford & back to Holden. Even supported him in the Volvo Supertourer but the brief dalliance with Lada was a stretch.

Now, I'm a Lowndes fan & have been since he graduated from karts.

Having said that, they never got a free pass & one-eyed support if they messed up.

Bottom line: I admire drivers with talent that are likeable on & off the track.

As a kid, that's all I really cared about. I guess it's easier to root for a brand than a driver since you only have 3 choices now. Not to mention the moe likely you are for something your rooting for to win if you narrow it down to 3 possible winners. Your more likely to have a Holden win in general than a specific Holden driver.

I think 2000s Supercars saw how appealing it could be due to how easier it is to follow and ran away with it and now it is pretty much stuck with this series. If it wasn't for the brand recognition that this series produces, I doubt Ford would be running to this day, it just has a long legacy fighting Holden that fans and even Prodrive want to keep arount, they complete each other.

Does van Gisbergen pass the beer test?

You're down at the pub having a drink when who should walk in but a racing driver. You offer to buy him a drink, but he's having a bad day and the last thing he wants to talk about is motorsport in any form. So, who is that racing driver?

That's the beer test.

Facts? Sources?
No, I didn't think so.

SVG isn't Jesus in a race suit but he ain't Paul Morris or Garth Tander either.
You really want me to go about finding sources of all the things he has done.

Well first he faked a retirement in the 2nd to last race in 2012 due to being in "a bad place mentally" even though he just signed a 3 year contract only to return to the series in 2013 conviniently feeling better once his contract under Stone Brothers Racing was gone. This resulted in a court case in 2014 http://www.speedcafe.com/2014/06/30/settlement-ends-van-gisbergen-court-case/

In 2015 at Phillip Island after signing for Red Bull SVG went on to deliberately take out David Reynolds who was running 3rd in the championship at the time and was with Prodrive FPR (Red Bull's main rival at the time) due to not being in the running for anything significant championship or round result-wise. He went on to an interview later on admitting he took him out on purpose because he believed Reynolds pushed him out on the first corner despite SVG jumping in on him mid corner in his blind spot (trying to get a line on the 1st corner is apparently unheard of to SVG at this point) squeezing a 3 car wide 1st corner in a bunched up middle pack.

In the Bathurst 12 hour this year he went into the final stint with worn tyres against Maranello Motorsport Ferrari (placed a good 5-10 seconds ahead in first on brand new tyres) only to hit a front running lower class car off the road, and then put it into the wall going down the mountain only to turn into the middle of the road and stop near the pit entrance. Now the reason why this was seen as quite a bad move is that there is no conceivable way he would not have known the car was gone at that point but he decided to turn into the road rather then away.

These are just some examples, I'm not keen on going on to give even more examples which you can find yourself instead of having me do the work for you.

I'll add in one more thing http://www.newshub.co.nz/home/sport...a-lot-of-respect-for-shane-van-gisbergen.html

Courtney cleared of any wrong doing for when he helped Simona around.

You sure? Bright is nowhere
They were all there at the time I posted. He lingered just out of the top 10 all day, not too bad in new machinery for him (admittedly there were no highlights for him either).

But he ended up 15th, just one place behind Frosty. So, meh.
I think this sums it up at the moment;
I keep forgetting Bright is even in this series anymore
