Because they could have gave him a championship, but yeah after the crap before his accident, you'd think he'd have thought long and hard before signing for 16 and 17'
If Lowndes is on the outer at Triple Eight, that's where Courtney should be aiming.

I can't see T8 running a third car if Lowndes it out. However, I can understand the thought. Not renewing Lowndes, does open the door for a younger driver.
Does LeBrocq get the call to run a brand spanking new Gen2 machine? Why spend Courtney money, when you get a proven race winner in GT and Supercars(S2)?

Because he's not a proven race winner in Supercars. Waters thrashed the field in Super2, but took time to make an impression in Supercars. As a top team, Triple Eight could afford to sink money into a proven championship winner like Courtney.

Yet, they are taking a chance on pairing Matt Campbell with Giz. That's 900 points that can be lost. Also putting them out of contention with the Teams Championship.

I think that's because Roland Dane sees a lot in Matt Campbell, understandably. I see him the same as McLaughlin before he made it big in Supercars. He's a true natural talent and a class above the rest of the rising stars. With McLaughlin, everyone new that we were seeing something special in the making, and I think we're seeing the same with Campbell. It'll be interesting how he goes in the Porsche Supercup and his international expeditions.

I can say same for Lebrocq. The kid hadn't driven a GT3 car but dominated in the Erebus SLS. He wasn't a slouch in S2 and he did good with Waters to pull off a 4th at Bathurst.
Courtney races hard. No doubt, in a RBHRT, we would see him push the #97 & #88.

This new Commodore though, it could be an equaliser among RBHRT teammates. Does it behave like the current car? Will torque delivery eat up the rear tyres? Does Roland Dane want Lowndes to be part of this or does a new driver step in for this new beginning?

Australian GT wasn't or still isn't anywhere near as competitive as a 'good' season of Carrera Cup or Super 2, and Le Brocq drove the SLA before some of the bigger teams and manufacturers came to AGT. I say a 'good' season of Carrera Cup or Super 2 because some years definitely have a higher level of graduates compared to others. For example 2012 when McLaughlin won from Percat, Mostert and Pye. And then compare that to the year that Dale Wood won the championship.

I rate Le Brocq, but I just don't see the X Factor that I see with Campbell, but I do hope that he's in a main series Nissan next year.

Here is my issue with all this, and I'll admit bias due to being a fan of Scotty and Frosty. But considering the talent pool running Fords without manufacture assistance like Holden, and they're leading the championship it seems stupid not to just at least allow them. No one is saying help pay the bill or support a team, but they're promoting the brand and winning with it and Ford seems to not care? Seems silly to me.

Especially when this same guy -Penske- is giving Ford further reason to be happy State side. If anything they should be trying to help I'd feel.

I feel like he could even sway them to help some. Ford US wouldn't be interested in helping develop a new Falcon racer, but with the Mustang they just might be.

Wouldn't need to be the U.S. though, and since their are no future Falcon cars on the horizon I wouldn't expect them to develop one either. Maybe if this falls through Ford wise, he can convince Honda to join Supercars

The Falcon was just being used as an example. The point was that since the Mustang is a global car (unlike the Falcon) they would be more inclined to help.

Yeah but the logistics is an issue, it'd be much easier to lean on Ford HQ to make Ford Australia budge.

Ford HQ wont force Ford AU. However, it was good to see Roger and Tim(Edwards) talking in the PRA garage.

What happened to those other rounds like Thailand and Indonesia?
Put off for the time being. I'm guessing that if they're still under consideration, they'll be competing with Sepang for a place.

It makes sense, them working together is similar to the NASCAR model really, where if you have a multiple teams dealing with each other and the manufacture, and then a certain group builds the chassis the other builds the engines, they help supply stuff and everyone is somewhat happy.

If they can continue that relationship, maybe some teams would switch over to whatever DJRTP/PRA run next. T8 aren't the only ones that can build fast cars.

I am hoping DJRTP would be able to get 2 more cars. Probably not going to happen for a while. Too bad the #18 didn't stay at DJR.

This best thing about the Winton round will be, TCM. Other that, seeing how Simona does at her "home" track. F4 and V8 Utes make up the support categories.

Shame VASC can't get Australian Production Cars at most weekends.

Had this go past me on Monday

especially for the lesser, more grass roots catorgories
I suspect that's where their interest lies. Supercars outgrew Mallala years ago. The circuit would need substantial redevelopment - and probably an extension or two - to host Supercars, and would face stiff competition from Tailem Bend to host a second round in South Australia.

Yes, most certainly for that track. I don't think they could ever get Mallala anywhere near up to scratch for Supercars again, and there's no way they'd want to drag any truly major events away from their other circuit (Tailem Bend).

If they hosted rounds at both circuits, I'm sure they'd make sure not to conflict with a Supercars round.
It would make sense to not conflict with the Adelaide Supercars round but unfortunately for us in S.A. common sense isn't very common when it comes to motorsport scheduling. This year Mallala hosted round 1 of the S.A. Motorcycle titles and Gillman Speedway had their Sidecar titles, both on Supercar weekend, which is fine if you're only a car guy, unfortunately for me I like car and bike racing on both dirt and tarmac.

I'm still finding it hard to see where the Tailem Bend circuit will fit in. They say they want things like the Shannons Nationals back at Mallala, I would have thought The Bend would have been better suited to any national events, and keep Mallala more for club meets, track days and the like. Why build The Bend to be capable of hosting big events only to run them at Mallala?

Mallala needs to draw a crowd too if it is to survive.
With the passing of Clem Smith, I can't help but think the circuits days are numbered anyway. Sad
