I say Blanchard. MSR would rather be further up pit lane with BJR, than at the tail end.

How does that work?

Either MSR want to run their own thing or they don't.

Jumping in with BJR makes them the third car there, not an MSR entry.

It's like RBHRT & Tekno, MSR share the garage, but MSR run their own team.

Creates a bit of a headache for PRA with two talented guys like Jacobson and Stanaway waiting in the wings. Sadly, I think there's little they can do with Bright owning the REC. He can probably keep going as long as he wants.

Bright owns the REC as you say so, he decides who sits in the car full stop.

This why Supercars needs to release more RECs.
We've got an overflow of talented & capable candidates for a full time gig, sitting on the sidelines because there isn't a seat available.

Sure, we can't have a grid of 40+ cars in pitlane anymore but, there's the capacity to expand over the current 26.

What if they did a thing like NASCAR? For tracks like Perth, make cars qualify for the grid or go home? At tracks with large pit bays, more RECs make sense. Rent 5-10 RECs on a race by race basis. It's like a permanent Wild Card for teams that can't commit to a full VASC season. Helps S2 drivers gain more experience. Imagine Dale Wood having to watch the short grid races from home.

This scenario ^ is what Supercars faced with bulging grids around 1999/2000.
In fact, one year the Clipsal 500 had to have a pre-qualifying session held at Mallala & some teams did go home IIRC.

I can remember Brad Jones being extremely unhappy at the prospect of signing a sponsor for the season & not through a lack of speed but, due to an unforeseen mechanical problem, failing to qualify.

It was this process, ever rising budgets & general attrition of the entrant numbers that we arrived at the current franchise/REC situation, with organisers able to promise set numbers & entrants/drivers for the whole season with massive penalties for those that break their agreement.
It was this that ended John Faulkner's involvement in Supercars when he failed to front up at Winton one year & why LDM will take anyone that Supercars allows (think Superlicence) this year.

I can imagine the general attitude hasn't changed over the years.

Yet, we have drivers who own the RECs and yes, they may have experience, but doesn't mean they have to keep proving to themselves, "I still got it!".
Skaife got out. Murph called it a day. Ingall gets a call back now and again. Bright's wins with BJR were fine, but now it's time to move on.

T Kelly(maybe Rick as well) Bright, Blanchard, Rullo, LDM Racer X and Wood should be packing lunches.

I don't know you read the comment boards on Speedcafe and you'd think they would be all potential champions just waiting for the stars to align as they increasingly climb in age. While younger more capable drivers (other than multiple champions Lowndes and Whincup) beat them consistently. The comment I see on there bugging me the most is the "would you quit your job and give it to younger person, like you want Bright to do?" Thing is these guys make tons of money and could strike a deal to stay on and mentor, and in Bright's case make even more money selling his REC. So I find it confusing that people who follow the series would make a parallel connection as if Joe Nobody is the same as Jason Bright or Rick Kelly.

Yeah, some of them really believe that. I just glaze over it.
At the same time, maybe LDM would do better in GT racing or drop back to S2. Rick & Todd could be doing GT Academy Australia in AGT, campaigning the GT-R and a 370Z GT4. As you mentioned, just sit back and watch LeBrocq and Fulwood take the helm of the #7 & #15. These Young's guys are ripe.

Gimmicky but it's very well executed. I really like it.

Edit: Is that a Big Banger VK in the background, next to the McLaren? I'd assume it'd be a replica.

Maybe it's a Group C for Heritage Touring Cars?

If it's a VK Commodore Touring Car, that'd be the most appropriate class for it.
