Does football need video referees?

Good game at Cardiff, Arsenal just sneaking the win and Cardiff get their first league goals this season.

Lukaku with both goals for United, Pogba missed a penalty and Rashford got himself sent off for a headbutt after coming on, that plane banner was stupid and embarrassing as well.

What a result for Watford, four wins from four!
 
Great win for Watford.

I was very unimpressed with the refereeing of the United and Burnley game, if the ref was any more one sided he'd have been wearing a Burnley kit.

Bit harsh, but Bradford have sacked their 32 year old manager who has only been in charge for six league games. He was formerly their youth manager and was promoted during the summer.

To me, it smells like nobody else really wanted the job or applied for it and therefore they had to promote from within. And they wouldn't be the first club which has recently struggled to garner any interest. All these "top players" who want to get into management... you might have to look lower down than the top six of the Championship. That's where the vacancies not only exist but where the positions are badly needed.

I tip my hat to Harry Kewell on having taken on the League Two Stevenage job and now having moved over to League Two Notts County. Not that he's necessarily a brilliant manager in the waiting but it's refreshing to see that climb up the ladder being attempted.

On a similar note, hats off too to Steven Gerrard for taking the Rangers job - it should hold him in good stead if he plans to progress up the ladder to the English Championship.

VAR is to be trialled in Premier League games this season starting with next weekends games, the five Saturday 3pm games will all have VAR available and its to test out the system to see if it copes with multiple games at once.

I'm looking for a new job at the moment, so this comes at an opportune moment for me. Not only that, but I have many years of experience of doing bugger all and making terrible decisions, so I should make for an excellent VAR referee.
 
I don't think its ever been done with more than one game at once, the team at Stockley Park near Heathrow will be so busy!

Oh, I wish I could see Serie A :(

All but a few Latin American countries have no access to the League unless you pay for the Serie A pass.

My family and I already pay an expensive Sky contract. And we won't pay extra for something we should have by default.

Nah, I'm too lazy and unfit for that - hence a job that requires sitting on my backside watching telly for two hours would be just the ticket.
 
The VAR "test" is just to see if they can, theoretically at least, handle multiple games at once. There will be no contact between the VAR officials and the on field refs, so no decisions will actually be made or overturned.

It's not any better here. To watch (legally) every bit of Football here (UK), it'll cost a shed load.

The Premier League is on Sky and BT Sport. (Sky has way more games but BT have at least one a week).
The Football League (next three tiers) is all on Sky, they mostly show the Championship (2nd Tier) but occasionally show a lower league game.
The League Cup is also Sky, usually two games a round are shown.
The FA cup is split between BT and usually a couple of games a round on the BBC (online only in the earlier rounds).
The Community Shield game is also BT.
The National League (5th tier) is on BT too.

The main Champions League and Europa League games are on all on BT.

Scottish Football is shared between Sky and BT Sports.
French and German league football is also BT.
Italian, Spanish and Dutch football are now all on elevensports which is an online only subscription service.
The MLS is on Sky. As is the occasional Chinese league or Northern Ireland league game, if anyone ever watches them is another matter.
The Portuguese League is on Premier Sports, although a game a week is usually available on their FreeSports channel too. I think an odd Argentinian game is on here too.

Oh and next season two entire rounds of Premier League fixtures (including the massive Boxing Day games) will all be on Amazon, so another service needed to watch the games. To be honest it's no wonder more and more people are turning to illegal methods to watch the games.

Ok, there's probably other leagues I've forgotten or didn't know about on somewhere or other too.

I didn't even go into the International stuff, seems the Nations League is a Sky thing for instance.

Anything to do with European Qualifiers etc. is on Sky including Nations League.
 
I saw Final Score last night, which is the film set at West Ham's former ground Upton Park/Boleyn Ground. It was mostly pretty terrible but had its moments with some fairly preposterous stunts, its billed as Die Hard in a Football stadium and its copies a few things from it, plus it also reminded me of the Jean-Claude Van Damme film Double Impact in which terrorists take over an Ice Hockey arena.

The most ridiculous thing of all was during the film West Ham were taking part in a European Cup semi final, so effectively they were in the Champions League semi finals! part of the stadium got blown up at the end of the film.

Also former West Ham players Rufus Brevett and Tony Cottee got shot in the head!

Apparently many England supporters who watched the World Cup online were annoyed because they could hear neighbours celebrating several seconds before they saw goals going in. Of course this was not a problem for those of us in Scotland. :(

Now they (not just the BBC actually), just need to sort the rest of the delays. HD is about a second behind the standard channels, BBC, ITV, etc are also a little behind when watched through Sky compared to Freeview and they are all trounced by the radio commentary which is always seconds in front of any TV channel.

All online streaming must be like 15-20 seconds (maybe more) behind the radio I'd imagine, yet they claim streaming is the future and will soon be common place. In reality it's a number of years away yet as the technology just isn't good enough and in every way right now.

And let's not even mention Sky Go. There are certain sporting events (e.g. boxing matches, Brendon Hartley's race at Monza etc.) where the whole thing could have finished before it even starts on Sky Go.

There was this weird thing during the World Cup where we in "my" bar were watching on the terrestrial Slovak television but a bar around the corner must have had it on a stream of some description, for some reason (a quest for English commentary perhaps).

Every time we were shouting at the telly, about 10 seconds later we'd hear the same ruckus from the gaff around the corner.
 
Sky go is normally about a minute behind. I have had footy on Sky go, whereas my brother had it on Sky box
