The one thing that annoys the hell out of me the most about the commentary of Supercars is, and it's not unique to the class, they never criticise or say anything negative about it even when it's obvious.

They're employees & that means they've been muted.

Me and the Fam, will be at the AGP next year. My Step-daughter missed out each year we went. Plus, I just love Melbourne.

This weekend looks like a good one for some special racing.

This is why Skaife annoys me. He's actually pretty good when he commentates the race, but as soon as he goes back to the desk he ''clarifies'' his statements from the telecast into politically correct nonsense.

All they'd have to do is leave what they've got (on Foxtel: Jess, Craig, Larko & co.) but only have Skaife commentating the race, put Russell back behind the desk, and imo we'd have a perfectly balanced broadcast.

Sorry Pete05, I know you don't have Foxtel, so I'm not sure what you're dealing with.

Probably why Ingall wasn't retained. He definitely blasted VASC on occasion. Also recommended out loud, changes that should be in effect.

How it is now, Skaife giggles about everything and Crompton is nearly "babysitting"/calming Skaife. It's why I'm glad Crompo just calls the race. That balance is missing without Ingall there.

Lowndes gives us the driver's mind, which I dig. Hope they bring Ingall back at some point.

Noticed that as well. I know he's a Ford fan at heart but a perfect example was Larko on the telecast yesterday, describing the change to the Mustang's roofline as "subtle".

Subtle, really?

Coulthard looking good.

Edit: Chaz pulling away from the #99 down the straight.

Chaz is flying.

On free-to-air Ch.10, the only part of the Foxtel feed we get is Larko & the race lead in/call from Crompo & Skaife.

I had an issue with Larko last year at one stage when he was talking about the Falcon roof.

He said the reason the AU was never really competitive was that the shape of the roof promoted aerodynamic lift.
OK, if that's the case & remembering the exact same roof/glass area was used on the BA/BF/FG, was it not a problem then? :odd:

I can't be 100% certain as to how much of that 20-year old roof has been transplanted onto the Mustang but I'm pretty sure any modern roof profile would have to promote some lift.

For a simple example, hold a teaspoon by the edge of its handle in the tip of your fingers & allow a running tap to flow over the back of the spoon. Notice how it gets pulled into the water flow because of its shape. Air will flow over the roof of a car the same way.

Bottom line: the AU had more serious problems than it's roof.

The AU had exactly the same issue that plagued Ford from the late 90's through to the start of Project Blueprint (BA).... the dreaded P word ;)

I reckon the AU had the same problem as the rest of the field....Commodores coming out of Clayton.

BTW, Project Blueprint had its beginnings in 2000. The first step was to give the Falcons the same front airdam/undertray as the Commodore.
From the bumper bar down they were identical. The item homologated by Ford for 1999 was recognised as a dud.

Compare any 1999 AU Supercar against a 2000 version & any VT/VX Supercar. The difference in the Fords is obvious.

You mean in 98 or 99 when the powers that be removed 300mm from the Ford undertray, then in 2000 reduced the Holden front undertray back to the same size as the Fords but removed some of the rear aero to 'promote better racing by making the Holden better in corners and the Fords faster in a straight line'. Except it didn't work, the Fords couldn't get off the corners well enough to catch up by the end of the straight, and burned their rear tyres off trying. Ford even threatened to pull out of the series! Then Project Blueprint took full effect (in 2003).

That front undertray give & take had been going on since 1995. Larry Perkins was so pissed off in 1996, he built the world's freshest VP Commodore for Bathurst believing the full undertray would give him a fair fight.

I remember the AUs could qualify OK but, as you say, they'd burn up their rear rubber.

Thing is, if we look back at the results over the years, most of the time if you remove the dominant Team such as HRT 1996-2002, it looks like more of a fair fight. The other factor that muddies the figures is, it was usually a case of a Commodores outnumbering Falcons.

Makes me wonder if they could've re-homologated their aero packages annually like they do now, how different would history look?

We also didn't get a control tyre until 1999. Unfortunately for the Dunlop runners, Supercars chose Bridgestone & what team had the Bridgestones worked out? The dominant team of the era.
Now, if Supercars chose Yokohama instead....

Yeah, agree. Even Project Blueprint didn't get it right, but it took until T8 moved to Holden to work out how much added stability the Ford end plates gave. Thank **** for COTF .

Calling it now - It's going to take an almighty choke for McLaughlin not to win the championship this year.

Just caught up on the race. Was on at midnight last night and since it was Thursday here and I had to get up at 5:30am I wasn't going to stay up and watch it. Scotty is going to be hard to beat this year, and the top 5 cars being Mustangs doesn't help with the talk about parity. Good drive by Chaz, fastest car on the track for sure.

Maybe that's in response to this? https://autoaction.com.au/2019/03/15/exclusive-new-mustang-parity-row-erupts

i don't quite understand some of it. For instance:

''A parity row is looming and resistance to the Mustang’s legal exploitation of the rules – and the Holden teams’ growing dissatisfaction – isn’t going to go away.''

When:

''It is also not illegal or even a grey area under the current wording of the ballast rules, just a creative interpretation of the regulations.''

Also, this is still not far off what happened last year. The ZB , after winning both races at Adelaide, had cars finish in the top six spots in one race at Melbourne (race 5). The media need to stop beating this parity bs up and let things settle down.

When we get to PI and mainly, Tailem Bend, if the Mustangs are blowing the ZB out of the water, I'd be more inclined to believe them. For now, Holden teams have to accept the fact Ford Performance, DJRTP and Tickford have all come together, to build the best car on the grid.

Last year(year before), it was pretty much only T8 building the car. Had they also used the minds and resources from Walkinshaw, GRM and probably Erebus, I bet the ZB would have been even mightier. Oh well.

I smell carnage in this one.

Edit: Woooo. What a pass by Chaz.

It’s been a decent race mid pack, but Scott looks like he’s just going for light stroll.

It’s a shame that Mostert had a dodgy start, it would’ve made the battle for the win much more interesting otherwise.

He's confident with his starts. That's another box ticked for him. Going to be a long season for the rest of the competitors, if he keeps this up.

Wasn't bad for a sprint race. McLaughlin just looks unstoppable at the moment.

Can't wait to see how dark it gets without rain. I looked out my window after yesterday's race and it was pretty darn dim.

Bit unrelated, but I stumbled across these pics from a few years back.. Me with the Kelly bros, as well as some other drivers at a corporate night when they were in Auckland a few years back!

(Also: Reynolds' humor is just as witty on the spot as it is on tv!!!)

Wow. What the hell.

That's crazy. Oh well. That's one way for the Commodores to get one in. :sly:

Edit: Fabs, it's your time to shine!

Lucky for McLaughlin he’s already got all the points he possibly could.

These guys. Just giving Whincup the lead as usual.
