Damn, I was really enjoying the "Arsenal next season in the Championship" memes that had sprung up on YouTube.

They have won one game, which doesn't change a whole lot, and are not out of the woods yet. So inconsistent, and when they are bad, they are very bad imho. ;)

Leeds 1-0 Burnley
West Ham 2-2 Brighton
Liverpool 1-1 West Brom

Nick Pope brought Bamford down in the area for Leeds penalty which Bamford then put away on five minutes, Burnley had an equaliser controversially ruled out for an adjudged foul on Leeds keeper Meslier by Ben Mee, Burnley better team in second half but Leeds held on.

Great game between West Ham and Brighton as the Hammers came from behind twice, Maupay capitalised on bad defend to give Brighton the lead, Young West Ham winger Ben Johnson got his first senior goal to make it 1-1, Brighton restored their lead just 10 minutes later after Dunk evaded Soucek at a corner from close range which was checked and eventually given. But then Soucek found himself unmarked at the other end to poke home and make it 2-2.

Liverpool very dominant in the first half and took the lead thanks to Sadio Mane, they had 82% possession in the first half and Henderson made more passes than the entire WBA eleven. WBA put up more of a fight in the second half and went forward a little more, Semi Ajayi headed home a late eqauliser to stun Liverpool, WBA ended with only 22% possession, Liverpool now five points clear ahead of tonights game.

Wolves v Spurs just kicked off.

Just watching the Crystal Palace v Leicester City game, and Leon Osman, co-commentating former Blue, said it was a pity, as Everton could have gone top if they beat Cit€h by 11 clear goals. ;)

Seriously though, hope nobody has severe effects from having the virus.

Walker and Jesus had tested positive on Christmas Day so missed the Boxing Day game.

What's interesting about this is that City are due to play United in the League cup semi final next week (the 6th).

You may remember earlier in the season when Leyton Orient had to forfeit their cup game against Spurs because of a Covid outbreak, I wonder if City will have to do the same.

It is supposed to be Chelsea v City at the weekend as well.

Palace 1-1 Leicester
Chelsea 1-1 Villa

Didn't really see much of either games so cant comment on them much, Zaha gave Palace the lead before Barnes equalised for Leicester late on, Giroud gave Chelsea the lead before El Ghazi equalised for Villa in the second half, only one win in five for Chelsea whilst Villa are five unbeaten.
Here are the games for the period immediately after Christmas Day.

Tuesday.
Brighton v Arsenal (6pm)
Burnley v Sheffield United (6pm)
Southampton v West Ham (6pm)
West Brom v Leeds (6pm)
Man United v Wolves (8pm)

Wednesday.
Tottenham v Fulham (6pm)
Newcastle v Liverpool (8pm)

The games from Monday onwards are being streamed on Amazon Prime.

A reminder of the rest of this weeks games.

Everton not happy with the postponement tonight, they have put out a statement asking for clarification, game was called off just four hours before kick-off.

They are becoming a bit of a laughing stock...

I just don't get it.

We've been Monk-level crap pretty much from Monk's sacking through to a couple of weeks ago, when Westwood came back from injury and - unlike Monk - Pulis played him. We then picked up four points in the last two games to finally be back within our deduction from safety, and with a better record than five of the clubs around us...

... and Chansiri sacks him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Pulis fan, but he's a not-getting-relegated specialist and that's what we need right now. To not get relegated, you need to get a good keeper in behind a decent defence as your basis and... for the most part Pulis has done that. His record is actually worse than Monk's (7 points from 10 for Pulis, 12 points from 11 for Monk), but at least with Pulis you could see that there was an ugly light at the end of the tunnel that had us ended the season in 18th/19th. Sticking with Monk would have been catastrophic - though both of them seemed convinced that Jordan Rhodes was a final-15-minute impact player, which is beyond stupid.

This decision makes absolutely no sense unless this:

“The performances and results have not been of the level expected since Tony Pulis was appointed. There are also other issues which have had a bearing on this decision."
Means Chansiri has no money left (we were apparently late with November's wages; the PFA was called in regarding the issue) or that Pulis told him what he really thought of him.

Also I've got £10 says Keiren Westwood doesn't play against Middlesbrough.

There's clearly a bigger issue going on at Sheffield Wednesday, which likely is money, but Pulis was ideal for this season. If not him, you might as well hire a nobody from non-league and hopeit works, but if not at least it'll be cheap.

Premier League clubs have met to discuss stopping the season for two weeks, latest round of testing resulted in 18 positive tests which is the highest yet. Southampton manager Hassenhuttl won't take charge of their game against West Ham shortly because someone in his household has tested positive and Sheffield United have been hit by positive tests but their game tonight is still going ahead, Spurs v Fulham tomorrow is in doubt.

PL have at least agreed to increase testing.

Yet at the same time, it doesn't make any sense that it's money. Chansiri hurled £45m or more at transfers, and then spent £60m buying the ground. Steve Bruce won't have been cheap, nor will Garry Monk, nor will Tony Pulis. The names being talked about to replace him - Morais (but why), Poyet, Cook - also aren't. There's money there, so this whole mucking around with FFP, stadium sales, player wages doesn't make any sense.

In the meantime, we've gone full Wednesday and, without a manager, beaten Middlesbrough 2-1. And that's tosspot Warnock's team

Manchester United beat Wolves 1-0 right at the death, Bruno who didn't have a good game assisted Rashford who didn't have a good game. Wolves defended in numbers and for the most part were doing exactley the job they were setting out to do, crowd us out in thier third and counter.

I think in the end they tired too much and given tonight is thier 2nd game in 3 days, understandably so. I don't think the win was undeserved, particularly in the second half it was very much a case of attack and defend and if you're defending most of the half you're always at risk of conceding a goal somehow. But it was still a very determined performance from Wolves who likely will feel the goal was undeserved.

Not a brilliant performance tonight, be we never stopped trying and I think this was a game we wouldn't have won not that long ago. We're still not as consistent as I'd like (in terms of performance not neccesarily results) but we are most certainly improving.

West Brom 0-5 Leeds
Southampton 0-0 West Ham
Burnley 1-0 Sheff Utd
Brighton 0-1 Arsenal
Man United 1-0 Wolves

Leeds took WBA apart in the first half scoring four on the way to an impressive win, WBA were never in the game and its a big task for Big Sam now.

Back-to-back wins for Arsenal, Lacazette scored just 29 seconds after coming on in the second half, Burnley's recent good form continues with Ben Mee getting the only goal in the second half, Sheff Utd need a few miracles!

I thought we were really lucky to get the win tonight, performance was terrible especially in the first half but we stuck at it and got lucky with a deflected shot just 90 seconds from the finish, up to second now though...

Spurs v Fulham is off, its because of positive tests in the Fulham camp, game was due to kick off at 6pm and was only called off at 3.10pm.

Good news from Man City as they have recorded no new positive tests and have re-opened their training ground.

The only good thing about that is that there were no fans travelling to the game.

Newcastle 0-0 Liverpool.

Karl Darlow made a string of great saves to deny Liverpool who were dominant but couldn't get a goal, Liverpool had 73% possession and its the second game in a row where they have dropped points.

They stay top of course, but Man United in second are now only three points behind with a game in hand!

Man United's Edinson Cavani is banned for three games and fined £100k for an Instagram post last month, he must also complete face-to-face education after admitting the charge.

Happy New Year guys!

Everton 0-1 West Ham
Man United 2-1 Aston Villa

Tomas Soucek with an 86th minute winner for West Ham, wasn't a great game to watch.

Anthony Martial gave United the lead just before half time following some nice build up from United but in the second half Villa's Traore was let in by some rubbish defending again to poke home the equaliser from close range, just a few minutes after that however Pogba won a penalty which Fernandes dispatched and the game finished 2-1, great performances from Bailly and Pogba for United, who are now only goal difference of the top of the table.

Tottenham 3-0 Leeds
Palace 2-0 Sheff Utd
Brighton 3-3 Wolves
West Brom 0-4 Arsenal

Just come home from work so didn't see any of the games, Brighton-Wolves seemed like a bit of a mad one!

Burnley v Fulham tomorrow is off because of Fulham's on-going Covid outbreak, game was due to kick off at 12pm.

Spurs players Reguillon, Lamela and Lo Celso were pictured breaking coronavirus guidleines by gathering a party of which West Ham's Manuel Lanzini was in attendance. Lanzini has apologised and Spurs released a statement saying they are disappointed.

Mauricio Pochettino has been officially as new PSG manager.

Burnley P-P Fulham
Newcastle 1-2 Leicester
Chelsea 1-3 Man City

All three goals came in the second half at St James's Park following a boring first half, Maddison and Tielemans with two great goals for Leicester and Andy Carroll with his first Newcastle goal in 10 years for a late consolation goal.

City outclassed and out played Chelsea, City goals came in a dominant first half, Gundogan and Foden with goals just two minutes apart with some terrible Chelsea defending, De Bruyne added a third with a nice finish, Hudson Odoi with a consolation with almost the last kick of the game, pressure mounting on Lampard now. City up to fifth with Chelsea slipping to eighth! Leicester up to third.

Southampton v Liverpool tonight on the Monday night football.

League Cup semis this week with Brentford v Spurs tomorrow and Manchester derby between United and City on Wednesday.

FA Cup third round this weekend.

Southampton 1-0 Liverpool

Danny Ings got on the end of a Ward Prowse free kick after just two minutes for the only goal of the game, Liverpool dominant at times but looked short of ideas which is surprising as they have one of the best attacks in the league, they had a couple of penalty shouts turned down, three games without a win and only one goal scored for Liverpool now, Man United can go top of the league if they avoid defeat in their game in hand against Burnley next week ahead of the Liverpool-United game on the 17th. Southampton boss Hassenhuttl was very emotional after the game and dropped to his knee at the full time whistle.

Premier League will continue during the newly-imposed English lockdown that was announced by our PM tonight.

Manchester Cit are still right in there, only 4 points behinfd United with a game in hand, 4 points behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand. Tottenhams poor recent run hasn't seen them drop that far back either with other results being what they have been. Win thier game in hand and they are only 1 point behind Liverpool.

Then you have Leicester who have proven in the past that they can keep pace with the pack, no games in hand but only 1 point behind Liverpool. It's a very interesting season so far and while I'm thrilled that United are in the mix, it could still go any way.
