Both the Porsche RSR and the Gr3 Lexus RC F ('17) got more fuel efficient for me, by a margin that can't be explained by anything other than the fuel consumption actually being changed. Haven't tested any Gr4 cars yet, or any other Gr3s because these two were the only ones I had a handy comparison for.

So if anyone has already run fuel simulations for any upcoming races I think it's a good idea to re-do them just to be safe. No fun running out of fuel at the end of a race, and less damaging but still not fun to overfill in a pitstop.

edit

Putting some numbers to it: I ran a fuel test with the Porsche on SSRX where I ran it from the start out to the first sector and checked the time and laps remaining indicator. I did this a week ago to see what effects different shifting points had. So a week ago, shifting as the bar starts flashing, it told me 6.6 laps remaining.

With this patch it tells me 7.0-7.1 (I did several runs, averages out to 7.03) which is a difference of 6.5%.

With the Lexus I am practicing for an upcoming race on Catalunya and last time out I got 7.0% per lap, this time it was 6.4% with nothing else changed.

So, quite a margin for sure.

I've never paid much attention to fuel percentages so forgive me if this is a dumb question.

Can that be explained by natural variation? Or is 3% large enough that it must be due to a change?
If one is consistent with gear changes and driving, fuel deviation won't be much unless using high fuel multipliers.

Note to self: when running fuel depletion simulation runs, check the fuel rates from the race first...

Had it on x4 and thought the Jag had been nerfed to hell!

After few practice races best of the night being total time of 27:46 running pole to finish by myself reving the Ford GT on the grid  I still never even saw the fuel almost empty warning...

I'd say Ford GT got an extra lap of fuel now probably not much more. That would have been great at Fuji... :banghead:
Indeed...

I watched the replay of your podium there and I realised that I was fuel saving much too much! I had 45% left after 10 laps (on Mediums though) whereas you had "only" 41 after 9 laps on Softs, because you were pushing to create a gap in front.
Another thing I noticed was that you were revving the hell out of the car, especially 3rd gear, upshifting around 220 km/h, which is 5-6 more than what I thought was the maximum/optimum.

Anyway it's nice to be able to watch you drive this beast, makes me want to improve to GOYL :D

Just jumped in a pre-race lobby to test fuel use in the Vantage. It appears to have gone from just getting through 7 laps to barely managing 4. FML, PD is a joke.

Edit: Either the lobby settings were wrong or custom race is using the old modeling because the custom race fuel use will get me through with a no stop. Soon find out I guess...

I had more fuel left over last night in a race where I saved none, than I did in the race practice before where I had saved a bit of fuel. The Vantage is slightly better on fuel now. 👍

It's easy to mix up the fuel and tire use multipliers when setting up a race. I get an extra lap of fuel in the AMG, (so 8 laps) the Vantage can't possibly be twice as inefficient...unless the fuel was set to 4x. (race uses 2x)

The lobby was almost certainly set up with the multipliers reversed.

Wish me luck, I’m going in...

Annnnnd track limit penalty at second last chicane nullifies my qualy lap. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Starting 17th. This will need to be an epic drive to finish near the front.

That might have been the case in the lobby I was in last night. I had just under 2 laps worth left in the car.

I'd take that. I took a bit too much kerb and span and parked it on the run off. I was facing the right way for a change but I lost several seconds. And as it was a lobby I had to abandon a second lap to change tyres over.

1 and done for me tonight.

Door #14, Q10 after copping a track limits penalty entering the Mulsanne Straight (cost me a potential top 5 time). Managed to draft my way up to 4th place by lap 4 only to run wide and then spin at the Porsche Curves. Resumed in 8th, pitted, came out in 13th. the drove my way back to P8 by the end of the race.

Could possibly go again to try for a better result, but have an early start tomorrow so I need the sleep more.

:bowdown:Dragline will post about his race. Good work.

My last lap video is processing.

Holy snaps! I get punted on the pit exit lap. People are slowing for a draft buddy or what have you. I'm just going out on RH to see where I sit. 15 A/S 5 B/S. I was B/S(thanks to the Daily Races) at the start and finished A/S.
The Winner of my race, Started P2 after punting me and drafting behind an F1. I got an apology, but I posted before the grid festivities, "Please. Don't bump draft me. I'll be fine." "Just race."

Just watch this last lap. What in theeeee hell?

Interesting race. The combo is great fun.

I was up to p14 by Tertres Rouge but was back to p16 once the slipstream was said and done. Slowly navigated my way through the cars who binned it or got penalties. Eventually settled in p12 for a while before some battling ahead let me tack on to the train behind p9.

Some more penalties and contact around me saw my Vantage and a DBR9 spend the last 2 laps trading p9 and 10 until I got a better run out of Maison Blanche and pulled alongside at the braking point for the Ford Chicane. Thankfully the DBR9 gave room and I got through to the line for a 9th and 102 points.

I never saw @05XR8 who blasted his way to p5 (I think).

I feel like I have a much better result in me, but I’m not sure whether to take the risk.

Sounds like what I did by mixing the fuel and tyre rates. Had to pit end of lap 4. Had fuel set to x4....

Got a pen on the first corner so that was the end of a good qualifying lap. Started 13th.

Slowly made my way through the field and then lap 4 the leader pitted as they were on Mediums. This put @housej into the lead who went on to win! Picked up a couple of pens which ended a fight for 3rd, including one on the last few corners getting pushed wide by an NSX who turned out to not have used Hards so he got a minute penalty promoting me to 5th.

A question on strategy - can you qualify on the medium tyres and change to hards before the race without issue, then just run hards in the race for a no-stop? Qually doesn't need to be on hard tyres, right?

Yes, you have a brief window to change tires after qualifying before the race starts.

I qualified on RH. if I didn't get punted, I could have been in the top 3. The RM were better for the first esses and I'd say the final chicane. I'd recommend qualify in clear air to maximise your cornering. Made it my business to stay out of a draft so I didn't get held up or messing around side by side with anyone. That's just me though.

Yes, that’s exactly what I just did. You get about a minute between qualy and race to do it.

If you finish your Q lap early you can also exit the track to change your tires before Qually is over. Just don’t leave the lobby. Then you can re enter the track to see what tires everyone is on from the pits, or at least the 8 cars around you.

I agree with this. You got mostly clear of the two bickering idiots. They both unghosted just in front of me at the final chicane on the out lap. I was constantly easing off to avoid being the filling in an unsavory sandwich.

So, my tip based on observations from.test races last night:

Track limits on the opening lap are harsher than every other lap of the race, particularly Dunlop Chicane and Tertre Rouge. I suggest not crossing the white lines at all on either of these corners for the first lap. After that, use the kerbs.

Why would track limits change after lap 1? Doesn't seem right.
