No different than you replace the brake rotors on your car...or do you not consider that to be "the same" car either?
There's a huge difference from changing the brake rotors which are a maintenance part anyway, and completely rebuilding the car where 80% of the parts will be new.

It's clear you guys don't get it so I'm done explaining. It's my opinion, really don't care if you don't agree. Sorry.

Then why did you bring it up...again? This is gonna be something where everyone has their own answer and opinion on the matter, like saying the 1 Millionth is only such because of a windshield decal and some embroidering. We get what your saying, but it's like religion and politics.

LATE WEEK ADDITION: Apparently, no more cars are coming out until APRIL!

Something tells me the milestone cars will end up restored, but even if the PPG is the only one left, it will be a pace car that has more than a one-time-appearance to it's name.

That can't (and won't) just not fix them. They will probably ride off the buzz for a year or so, but after that it will be like it never happened.

The quotes in the link mirror that somewhat. The only ones they could in theory leave as they are would be the '62 and the '09, simply due to the lack of major damage. The idea of putting them on display until they undergo restoration, as I believe the parties involved will argue until a single shop is agreed on, most likely an extension of GM or the Vette plant itself, is intriguing. I'd even say the disassembly and reassembly be done with an observation floor.

Oh. My. God. You thought the PPG was bad...

Holy hell. I didn't realize the soil in Kentucky was like acid for fiberglass.

Really, though, there must have been a lot of soil shifting after the initial fall for it to look this bad.

Oh good god, this was mostly buried. Unless I'm wrong about the 1.5, there may not be enough of the Hammer left! If I am, the 1.5 AND the Hammer are 🤬!

I agree with some of the comments from that article.

1. Restore all cars back to as they were.

2. Document the damage with photos and videos and create a new display about the sinkhole, damaged cars, etc.

1. Throw them all back in
2. Put up some guard rails around the edge of the hole
3. Increase visitors ten-fold
4. Profit!!!

Make sure the ground is stable and stick some plexiglas over it. Suddenly, no need for guard rails.

Cue visitors complaining about the cars not being in their original positions after they fell in.

Tourguide: "And this is the 100% real sinkhole..."
Kid: "oooh..."
Kid: *falls in*
Tourguide: "And that's the kid wh- WHAT THE HECK!"

That's all I thought of when you posted.
Come tour a cave. Or visit Red River Gorge. Just walk up to a ledge, no rails.

Or do a wild cave tour. Hard hats, crawling through damp holes that are maybe 24 inches across, wondering if you will fit or make it out, and an all around thrilling experience.

Kentucky isn't too particular about safety when it is a naturally occurring thing.

I don't have a picture of the ZR1 Spyder, but I remember seeing it. It actually does hurt to see it in that state. :(

The last time I visited the Museum was Labor Day weekend in 2009, the car was there.

The final Corvette. The Mallett Hammer has been pulled out.

I'm at a lost of words. :(

Ouch. I suggest leaving that one and building a replica next to it so we can see what it actually looked like? Man though, that last one's just brutal.

I'm speechless... I just... Man... And it was this before! It's completely unrecognizable!

I don't have a picture of it, but I remember seeing that one. This one hurts more than seeing the PPG.

At least that particular one could be replicated, Mallet Hammer C5 Z06's were conversions from stock ones. And if another is built to replace it, it's build record can be placed next to the old one.
