I just finished a session in chuyler's lounge and only found 1 car that i can get a 16 with.

Lotus 111R (25.4)(48.7) 1:16.408 --136 mph top speed

Type S zero (25.6)(49.3) 1:17.316 -- 138 mph
S2000-'99 1:17.8 --137 mph
S2000-'06 1:17.4 --136 mph
Hommell R/S 1:17.7 --139 mph

BTK
You should, especially when I lap you after your second pit.

Based on average tire wear to this point I'll be pitting for a second time...in October

Haha the lotus :) as expected..

No classics last night.. I checked around 10PM eastern, then found my into a lobby that was hosting a 450pp open, osprey was running. Esh & Nick showed up but there was someting goofy, at least on my side, people were swerving on straights, bouncing off walls etc..Trying go past one, even I cleared him with 2feet, he still hit me badly..weird..checked back around 1045PM again, still nobody at chuy's.

Yeah, I think that 450 room was public. It sucks that people feel the need to do that.

I didn't get on until after 10:00 and i dropped into Nic's room to practice for today's GT500 race @ Tokyo. Both of us are handicapped with starting on RH tires while the rest of the grid will start on RM tires. Turns out the best strategy for us is to simply pit on lap 1 and put on RS tires. It might not bring us to the front, but it is 20 seconds faster than staying on RH tires for 12 laps. By my guess, we will finish 15 seconds behind someone who runs a perfect race with the same average lap times as us....but I think we can run faster.

that was just a random room cenk and someone was seriously lagging that race. i got outta dodge after that race.

So are we redoing the classics 400pp SH night today ? looked like we were going to be 4-5 guys if timing was right..Osprey, you racing tonite ?

Chuy, if you will need to pit one more time on RMs, then I would actually run on RHs a while before I pit.. Tricky strategy there..good luck

Tire selection is open once the race starts...so we only have to be on RH for the first lap and everyone else will be on RM. Once drivers pit, they can put on RS tires.

We ran a quick test with Nic on RM and me on RH. I got a little draft on the straight at the start of lap 2 but after that he was gone and pulled away 1.5 seconds per lap.

We also ran a 12 lap test. Nic stayed out on RH tires and I went to the pits on lap 1 and put on RS tires. I won the race by 20 seconds, and I think I passed him on about lap 8.

In theory, we could run 8 laps on RHs then pit and run 15 laps on two sets of RSs. If we were still within drafting distance of the leaders on lap 8 this would certainly work...but if we fall back more than a few seconds we are screwed. Plus running an extra 2-3 laps on a set of tires may not seem like much, but those laps are run upwards of 3-4 seconds slower than on fresh tires. When it came to the final laps, we'd run out of grip to challenge for the lead.

I can't get on until Thursday and you guys aren't making it any easier! BTW, what's the car for Thursday?

Grayfox i think has to pick one. We skipped last week to do the honda race.

I'm curious to see what you guys did at the race.. I might have tried a 8+ laps RH + RM the rest with only 1 pit stop.. but not sure if the RMs would have held towards the end.. its good that I didnt comment last night, never want to be responsible for a bad strategy suggestion :)

I think you're confused. We could switch to RS tires as soon as we made a pit stop. if it were the case of going between RH and RM then I certainly would have stuck it out for 8-10 laps on the hards...but with the option to put on softs at the beginning it was a much safer route. Several of the front runners last night picked up damage after only a few laps. I would have been stuck in that mess. Last thing I wanted was to be behind a novice racer entering turn 6 (the kink) and have them smack the wall in front of me.

If the front runners were smart, they would have stayed out of trouble and made their pit stop early since worn RS tires are still quicker than worn RM tires. If I used the same strategy and ran similar lap times, i would have lost the race by 20+ seconds by pitting on lap 8. By my calculations I could reduce that by 5-10 seconds with switching to softs immediately...and without having traffic to deal with I could squeeze every 10th out of every lap while the leaders slowly lost time by battling back and forth.

Anyway, my strategy worked and I won by 15 seconds. Midway through the race I only had about 7 seconds to make up, which was definitely doable by running clean laps. I got two strikes of luck. 1) The leaders waited until about lap 12 to pit, they should have switched to softs much sooner. 2) The leaders did not work together and bump draft to run faster laps. In the end, neither of those mattered much because their battle eventually turned into an early pit stop and i got the lead about 2/3rds into the race.

I think the difficulty with calculating strategy is that RH and RM tires fade much faster than RS tires, and when they fade the lap times begin to drop drastically as very minor mistakes are amplified tremendously in such fast cars.

My strategy would be 1 pit stop total instead of 2. Thats why I said I would have tried the RMs instead of RS', so no more pitting after you get rid of the RHs. But, not sure if this would have worked out..

I would never have thought the RMs faded faster than the RS' in the game..

Glad yours worked out, nicely done !

Yeah, do some searches on tires. For this track, lap times go something like this...

RH
1:39 best
1:45 after 12-15 laps
1:48+ after 15 laps, if you are lucky

RM:
1:36.5 best
1:43 after 12-15 laps
1:45+ after 15 laps, if you are lucky

RS:
1:35 best
1:40 after 12-15 laps
1:44+ after 15 laps, if you are lucky

So even though you might think hard compound tires would be more consistent across their lifespan, they actually wear at the same rate and last the same number of laps. Often times they wear faster because you push them harder and they simply can't hold the heat as efficiently as RMs and RSs. It's just another thing that PD failed at. The compound is merely a grip multiplier and has nothing to do with longevity. Anyone that claims otherwise, has not done enough testing, or they simply don't know how to push tires to their limit.

With broken wheel(s) in front I was loosing 1.5 to 2 sec a lap (high 37' low 38' on RS).

If you have a broken wheel on one side (front) ...break the other one on the opposite side 👍 much better control.

Our strategy worked well!!Good job huyler!

Yeah, I noticed that in practice so any time I came close to the wall exiting 4, 5, or 6 I made sure to lift off the throttle rather than risk making contact. The rest of the turns my line was pretty safe. One time in practice i bumped the wall exiting 6, and I lazily let the car hit the wall on the opposite side. With damage on both sides, lap times were still slower, but the car was at least drivable.

On the 1st lap on RS (turn 10) I overcorrected... LOL What a stupid mistake! :ouch: I was kinda surprised to keep up with the RM on the first lap and being able to qualify mid-pack with tires handicap.

I wasn't surprised. I knew half the drivers wouldn't be able to run the same RM laps I could run...and since I was less than 2 seconds slower on RH I figured it would put me mid-pack...from there it was just a matter of staying in the draft. Probably could have stayed in the draft for 2 or 3 more laps, but it wasn't worth the risk, and the lead car broke out pretty fast.

This.

I noticed this a while ago in some endurance races offline. Funny thing is... all the previous gt games got it right. How did they screw this up this time?

Joined for a little bit after lemons. My MR2 for next week is right at 450pp...but with the stock suspension and stock tranny it's a bit tough to keep up with the regular 450pp crowd.

Would have never thought the softs last as long as hards lol

have some time off tonight to race, anything going on?

yeah, i'll be on tonight. was just on a few minutes ago but the servers are down for maintenance.

What's the car for tonight?

Can't get on tonight but will definitely be on tomorrow! See you on the track!

Sorry, I decided to find some public GT500 rooms last night to test my tune.

First room was a bust. Some dirty racing at Fuji but I got around everyone and placed first. Second race was Rome and the lead car pushed me into the guard rail before the kink on 2 consecutive laps. it slowed me down, not him. The second time I went full throttle through the kink and rammed him and took out the whole field in disgust. I don't usually do that but needless to say, that was the end of that lounge.

Second room was with some GTP guys. Had a good race at Deep Forest where my NSX is incredibly twitchy. I placed 3rd but I stayed with some of the faster cars that aren't part of my GT500 series. Wife came home and I had to stop. By the time i was ready to race again they were running generated tracks...which I can't stand unless I've got plenty of time to practice them.

Third room was packed. There were 2 or 3 good racers. Placed 1st at Fuji after starting last, 4th at Suzuka (after getting pit maneuvered on turn 2), 2nd at Daytona (car didn't leave the starting grid), 1st at Laguna (best battle of the night), DNF at Monza (again car didn't leave starting grid, made it up to 2nd and then the guy in 3rd pit maneuvered me).

In short, the NSX is fast, but cannot handle bumps in the rear quarter. I thought grip was an issue with the car but I was able to follow most of the other cars around the track. Only place i couldn't reach pole position was Daytona and that's because I was losing a good second in the bus stop. Not sure if the pole sitter was cutting it or something.

Ya the NSX is loose, without a wing. All of my regularly used NSX's have wings. Even if it takes some hp out of the car, it's still very quick. I'm going to try to make my 450pp GTI as quick as almost any other 450pp car( execpt the elise and the NSX).

I love working a car to death...even if it won't be the fastest 450pp car out there, I will keep trying. That '83 Lancer is a prime example. Sure it doesn't have much straight line speed, and the tires are too skinny, but I laugh at the cars I pass in it. It's a friggen box.

The '86 MR2 SC is passable. It won't run as fast as the heavy hitters, but with the right settings it can usually stay in the draft.

I like my '85 RX-7 too. It's a heavy hitter on 80's night but marginal on open nights...but I was able to keep up with a NC Miata last weekend at Fuji to my surprise.

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure I've jumped in on a few of your 450 nights and had a blast! I didn't realize that you guys had a club thread but now that I know I'm stoked!

See ya on the track!

Just out of curiosity, punting anyone in an Elise off the track is totally legitimate right?? ::gtpflag: :D

talking about favorites, I cant seem to get out off the M3 CSL for some reason..Such a responsive car, love it ! ran it last nite at a nur lobby, esh had one too. We started 1 & 2, got 4-5 secs away from the crowd. Esh's seemed a bit twitchy, i was on his bumper for a while until I saw Nick on the mirrow with an EVO 6 :) esh probably realized it too, pushed a bit and went into a spin..I couldnt hold neither, that EVO was pretty fast on the straights too 👍

I hope to join you guys sunday. Running regular 80s or 70s w/SH tires ?

Beefalicious, showing up with an Elise is not recommended :D

Last night was awesome!...Evo 5 btw (the license plate is in the middle) There's a special gravy for the diff that's why it's that fast. :sly:
A lot of people switch to this kind of car after that race...w/o much success.
