I know why they do it, but if I were King-of-the-World, or whatever, I'd make the car model an open standard. There are auto marks out there (Porsche) that want money to include their car. There are others that would, if they could, pay to model the car themselves just to have it included.
Hyundai is one of them. They place the Genesis everywhere they can to sell it. And they have the new Veloster. I think Scion would be eager to model their tC and their version of the GT-86.
I imagine GM would be eager to model their new muscle cars to try and sell them. Their main rival is the Mustang which has all the name recognition and mystic around it but really crappy performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mini and VW would be willing to model their own Cooper and Scirocco.
And speaking of the SVX (which I miss), Subaru has let its name slip away from performance. They do practical very very well. The only sporty thing they have is the STi WRX, which has gotten a bit bloated and is losing favor to their arch rival, the Evo. They, presumably, will be trying to get the sporty image back with their version of the GT-86. To remind people of their sporty past, I imagine they would be willing to model the SVX (and possibly XT) themselves.
I never feel that PD and Sony ever look at the big picture.
