i was actually surprised you went for the pass at the start of the final lap. I thought you were just biding your time to make the last turn pass. I'm uploading the video now. It was a rough start as people tried to get single file for the draft. A few cars tried to hold the inside line and that never works out well. They slide up the track and take out anyone running the faster outside line. It took me about 8 laps to realize that running the top line on the last turn was quicker. I have always followed the tire marks down to the bottom of the track...but when I saw Nic fly by, I quickly adjusted to the high line so i could stay in his draft and learn the line. On the rest of the turns, I think I was doing pretty well. It's hard to tell with the draft whether you are running the right line or not.

At the start of lap 10, I wanted to see if I can draft pass the start/finish line. When I did not make the pass until after the finish line, I decided to go for it. My front tires were almost 50% gone by then and I was understeering a lot and losing speed at the last turn. It did not help that it took me about 8 laps to realize I did not need to break going to the turn before the tunnel. I was hoping to build up enough cushion on the last turn (definitely go with the outside line) but it was not enough. Nevertheless, it was fun battling with you and Nic for the lead.

Also fun was watching the pole sitter land on the rail. I think someone else did too, cannot remember who it was.

Yeah, I saw bowtie I think hit the rail on like lap 2, I had to cut off diablo to avoid ramming him because he ended up in the middle of the track. Then later, Nic lost traction on the final turn and hit the rail. Grenade broke free a few times while I was in his vicinity. He was taking a low line into turn 1 it is much faster to stay high and straighten out the turn.

I'm going to add you when I get home in about 1.5 hours. Hoping to race tonight if it's not full already....

Fun racing! Sorry about clipping you on lap 5 snoopy. I was sliding up the track and didn't realize you were close enough to occupy the spot i was shooting for. I don't think you appeared in my rearview until it was too late.

450 Modern Muscle tonight? I think my truck driving trip has been moved back one day. I still wont be home for the Pre season, might make it too tonights race though.

Chuyler, no worries. You were in front and free to choose your line, hence I backed off after we made contact. On a track like that, it is really important to get the 2 braking points right. Fun for sure. Next time let's make it rain and see the carnage.

Nice choice for modern muscle night 👎

But the father of DMC was born in Detroit and is responsible for the GTO and Firebird. The original DMC-12 was a car designed for the USA but produced abroad due to financial advantage. Sound familiar? Not to mention that the GT5 version of the DMC-12 is the Series 2 from 2004 which was (as still is) assembled in Texas.

a rear engine 3.5l v6 /= muscle car, modern or otherwise.

also..."The company, at its suburban Houston, Texas location completes newly assembled cars from new original stock (NOS) parts, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and reproduction parts on a "made to order" basis using existing VIN number plates. Technically, there are no "new" DeLoreans; only remanufactured original cars."

They aren't new cars. They are old stock, using old VIN, using sheet-metal and bodies from Ireland.

anyways, my point is that it is very annoying when one person decides they don't want to run the theme for the night. There are plenty of opportunities to run deloreans, muscle car night isn't one of them.

The first post didn't really say anything about it having to be American. I agree in that I don't consider the DeLorean to be a muscle car. But I was wondering if one of the Aussie V8s would count. They are using, in most cases, American power plants, they have "unrefined" FR arrangements closer to those in American and in Europe.

Arguing whether the car is considered muscle or not is moot as the default weight was well under the min 1400kg limit, unless he added ballast. I remember chuyler asking him at one point so I assume the weight limit wasn't set to enter. He was pulling away from me pretty easily on straights @ Grand Valley last night once I got into 2nd, though I caught him in every corner. Don't think it was just motor.

wasn't in last night but i see some controversy

- delorean is in no way shape or form a muscle car. muscle car = American V8, FR drivetrain. The GNX is one possible exception to the V8 rule. I saw the delorean a few weeks ago and shook my head as well

- the Holdens have GM drivetrains and the 5.7 Pontiac GTO in the game is essentialy a rebadged Monaro and the G8 a rebadged Commodore. If any exception should be made, I'd say it's for the Commodore and Monaro.

Holy triple post! Mods would advise you to utilize the edit feature.

In response to your posts, I agree that a RR is stretching the muscle car theme a bit far. However, my previous post was merely in response to your statement regarding the manufacturing of the DMC-12 in Northern Ireland. I have included your original post for reference, including the bit that you set in bold:
"The DeLorean DMC-12 is a sports car that was originally manufactured in Dunmurry, a suburb of Belfast, Northern Ireland by John DeLorean's DeLorean Motor Company for the American market in 1981–1982."
I simply mentioned that the DMC-12 Series 2, the version in GT5, is assembled in Texas, USA, not Northern Ireland. I also added that John DeLorean, who developed the original DMC-12 which is the basis for the Series 2, was born in Detroit and is responsible for developing two iconic classic muscle cars, the GTO and the Firebird. This does not make the DMC-12 a muscle car, rather I just wanted to remind you it was an american's dream child.

Lastly, just as a fun comparison, the current generation of Camaro was engineered by Australians and is assembled in Canada. So much for modern american muscle.

Grenadeshark...remember Suzuka? Gone back to watch the replay and I'll be darn, you're still 3 seconds behind in 2nd.

I love how I turned my mic off and Cujo (who's my brother and sounds just like me) responded to whatever you were saying. Had my mic been on and I heard what you said...I may not have pulled off the ownage that I did. Side Note: I like that when Chuyler leaves...whatever time it is, half the room goes. When that happens, I podium each race therafter :D

Ha! Seriously? I could have sworn I heard you talking last night but didn't see you in the room.

Good racing last night, going to hop on again tonight.

if i cannot use a ford gt, or a shelby series one... the delorean is not a muscle car.

@booch. I apologize that my running the delorean pissed you off so much. I felt it fell under the modern muscle theme by my rule set. I mentioned that stock it was under 1400 kg, but I had it balasted 200kg to get it to 50/50 weight distribution.

I only won one race last night and came in second another one. I'll be happy to refrain from use in further muscle car nights if need be. But, I spent a good while setting that car up to what I felt was the theme of the night. I understand you don't agree and maybe no one else does either.

But, I wasn't changing my car just because you were yelling in the mic. I had no other cars setup and Chuyler hadn't complained about it to me directly. Please understand that I was not trying to directly piss you off by running a car you thought was anti-themed.

What I was doing was racing what I had brought to race unless told otherwise by the room host (which I never was directly).

I picked the DeLorean as sort of a joke car expecting in no way to be competitive. I am usually very vocal on the Mic (as everyone knows) and I had about 50 one liners setup for when I actually did pass someone.

Btw, the Delorean was not faster then any of the cars on the straights of the ring. I got passed top end by the vauxall without draft.

I was short shifting the hell out of the car (another muscle car trait) and I have a feeling that's why my acceleration seemed faster. I tested it last night and one lap around daytona without short shifting added nearly 2.5 seconds to my lap time.

I think some of your cars fell into that range as well. I am just saying. No hard feelings :)

Fair enough. But, I believe the ford gt and shelby both fall under the "super car" tag. I considered the delorean modern muscle as it was similar performance, but had a more modern design. Granted, it wasn't just a remake of the GTO,camaro, mustang, charger, challenger, etc.

One thing that people keep ignoring is the fact that RR is NOT easy to drive. I hardly see RUF's in our rooms or an Alpine tearing it up.

Ha! Seriously? I could have sworn I heard you talking last night but didn't see you in the room.

Two things:
1. I stopped racing Muscle car night. Too much questioning of people car choice and with no way to keep weight in check, I just have skipped the last two. On top of that, there are usually a higher number of accidents because of the cars tendancy to roll and people missing brake points because they are used to lighter cars...etc.
2. If you heard anyone sounding familiar to me before/after the races this past week its been Cujo. (being my identical twin...we tend to sound very similar) I've been running w/o a mic since last Wednesdays Lemons race and only turn it on to respond to BowtieKids messages. Its off during the races though 100% of the time now.

Double post---Win!

it was a controversial night last night  but first off sorry to Booch for whatever happened when we were side by side in the first straight in the "Ring". He spun out costing him the entire race. Its either i nudge him or he caught the backend of my car, all i know is that we were gunning it out on the straight and he was about to overtake me and then it happened.

I have the replay on the Nurburgring race and judging by what i saw, both the Delorean and was that a Vauxhall/Holden?, were definitely faster than the rest of us. Mine was hitting 134 at the straights and the rest were averaging between 140-145, but these two tops around 150+ and with a much faster gearing. I dont know if weight was a factor, but yeah they were faster. :grumpy:

Grenade, I did speak out about your car. I mentioned it was basically a lotus chassis and never originally manufactured in the U.S. I also questioned the weight but it sounds like you added ballast. There was no way I was going to beat you at Daytona...but unlike everyone else, I had no trouble keeping up in the draft.

But side by side, your car was significantly faster, primarily because adding ballast to a lighter car is better than using power reduction on a heavier car. Originally, I stated vehicles had to start at 1400kg to even qualify...but whenever I set a rule, there is always someone who wants to cheat the system. You were asked to switch up your car by several drivers and you didn't. Take a hint next time and pull out one of the cars you used previously.

I just went back and read the posts about yesterday. These are all the reasons why I've been skipping Monday. All this back and forth questioning...its just better to skip the theme to me. I didnt even sign on to avoid messages...just played the regular game and I woke up this morning knowing disagreements would be talked about. Keep it up all. The thread gets so exciting when its full of accusation and toil. :ouch:

i have to add the maximum weight ballast to achieved the 50/50 weight distribution on my Challenger, it did handled like a dream but i sacrifice handling over speed thats i was running turtles againt hares last night. My gearing was way off that you guys are killin me in the straights. Plus my car was almost maxed out that i have to detune it plus add ballast just to be within 450pp. :grumpy:

I always try to stick to whatever the theme is. Its been months since i race Muscle cars. So im not in a position to judge. I would say other than the Delorean, it was a fair game last night. I relegate the policing to the host.

here some actions on the "Ring" last night:

Guys, something to keep in mind here is that we are just racing for fun. I really don’t think anyone is out to win every race here.

For the purpose of Muscle Car night, the only requirement (as per the OP) is that the car must be greater than 1400kg. While I think adding ballast to get to this is somewhat questionable, it isn’t a big deal. Like Grenade said in his earlier post, driving a RR is more difficult than an FR. I don’t think his DeLorean gave him any advantage – at the end of the day, he won his race because he is a good driver.

I also don’t think that Muscle Cars should be restricted to US cars only. Cars such as the Holden Commodore (which Cujo was running last night) shouldn’t be disallowed due to its country of origin. If we define “muscle” as being >1400kg, most cars will still be your typical US muscle car, but at least there will be no more controversy about people running less-than-traditional “muscle” cars.

EDIT - And in any case, what happened the the rule that if you win a race, you have to switch cars...

chuyer1, it is good that you are being objective because I know you and grenade are buddies. But in any case I will step in for Grenade here (despite his comments last night that I should learn how to drive - lol). I don't think Grenade was trying to cheat the system - in fact, I have noticed he usually chooses crappy cars and tries to make them competitive (his green goblin (?) as an example). He saw a car that he thought was eligible and put ballast in to ensure the weight was above 1400..

Yes, he probably should've switched up after winning the first race , but to your comment about "using a car used on a previous night", as far as I know MODERN muscle car night seems relatively new and muscle car nights have always been 500PP, not 450PP - it is a bit hard to lose 50PP by detuning on most of these cars.

and my tribute to Booch prior to our incident:
