ok this might soiund a little stupid, but what the heck does GT mean in a car....they lower the ride height a lil and give it a stabalizer..i dont think it means gran turismo...or does it?

My brother has a MX-6 GT and my dad has a Probe GT, in these cars it means that they have faster engines and more options.

Just like Type R....when it's on a Type R car that is.

I posted this before, and you might find it interesting, Beamerkid (welcome to GTPlanet!)... :)

Although it is applied to a class of automobiles today, it predates the automobile by a considerable amount of time. In England, as far back as the 17th Century, Peers of the Realm and members of wealthy families would go on long trips to travel the European continent. The journey was called the "Grand Tour", and it was an expected part of a young gentleman's education. The Grand Tour could last for several years, and was made by horse-drawn coach. Major continental cities, including Paris, and historic landmarks were stops on the route. The very final destination was always Rome, the center for European art and culture since the Renaissance. There, participants would socialize with their peers and scholars, and enroll in courses of academic study to pursue a classic education. The carriages used for the Grand Tour acquired the name "Gran Turismo" in Italian. When automobiles replaced horse-drawn carriages as the conveyance of choice for a certain type became popular. It was a fast and light two-seater, but more comfortable and well appointed than a pure sports car. The genre reached it's peak after World War 2, when limited-production and specially-constructed two-seaters became popular with members of royalty, wealthy sportsmen, and movie stars. Many of these cars were raced, and the production car category in European racing became known as Gran Turismo, Grand Touring, or just plain GT. Regulations required two-seat interiors, spare tires, and luggage capacity, and, in the 1950s at least, GT-class racers could be and were driven to the track, raced, and driven home. Production-based racing classes are still know as "GT" classes in many racing series today.

ahem,Jordan... you didn't write this, didn't you?

*looks at GT2's instruction manual*

I believe the Ford Probe is a rebadged Mazda MX6, is it not? Or is it the other way around? Either way, the two companies are in bed together and the cars are VERY similar, mechanically...

Are you sure a Ford Probe was made with twin turbos? I knew some Ford Probe's came from the factory with singles, but never heard of twins...

It doesn't matter though, they're all ungodly slow...

first gen Probes had a turbo and intercooled 2.2 inline 4, the last Probes GT had a NA V6, same thing for the MX6...

oh my, guys, you got it all wrong! My dad is a Mazda master tech, not the owner of the dealership! And the Probe is the same as the MX-6, with a few styling exeptions. Twin Turbo stock? What are you smoking? The '93-'97 Probe GTs are 2.5 V6 NAs. The '88-'92 Probe GTs are turbo, single turbo. I would know seeing that my dad has a '93 Probe GT, and My brother has a '88 MX-6 GT. The turbos boost a max of 8.7 psi(stock). The V6s are 25 valves.
Stats:
Probe GT ('93-'97)
165 HP, 156 Ft Lbs torque

MX-6 GT ('88-'92)
Rated 145 HP(more around 180hp), 200ft.lbs of torque

While the MX-6 is faster, the Probe has more power at lower rpms. The MX-6 would beat it, if my dad and brother raced.(it won't happen anytime soon, although my dad would do it)

Hope that clears the confusion.

Ohh and differences between Probe and MX-6:
'88-'92
Probe is a hatch, MX-6 is regular trunk.
Probe has pop up lights, MX-6 has standard.
Wheels are different, interiors different.

'93-'97
Probe is hatch, MX-6 is regular trunk
Probe has pop ups, MX-6 has normal
and wheels and stuff.

I think that the ones we have(the 2 versions)are the best of the 2 models, the '88 MX-6 looks better, the '93 probe looks better. I'll post pics of our cars....

Damnit! I can't find pics of the Probe...Well it looks exactly like the one in the pic shown, it's black too.

how the heck did this happen? i mean i asked a ? and we got into talking about ford Probes (which i have never heard of or seen)

Where you been living Beamer? In a cave? Most everyone knows what Probes are. And we answered your question as best as we could. And it wasn't just probes we were talking about, MX-6s too, and I guess Stealths...
